IPO = Initial Public Offering, where shareholders offer to sell their shares to the public, shifting a company from a “private company” (it belongs to me, you, and that guy) to a “public company” (it belongs to anyone who pays enough for the shares)....
Don’t worry I dual boot on my desktop and Linux only on my laptop. I just happened to be on the windows partition when the idea struck. Also I haven’t made memes in a long time so thought including paint would be funny. And it is.
So true, lemmy provides me with just enough stuff to feel like I saw enough memes, got some news, etc. but then I can just put it down and do other stuff. My interneting / doomscrolling is waaay lower than it was before.
I’m a heavy emoji user, texting is such a poor medium for communication, many times people get the wrong message, but with an emoji you’ll get an idea of the face I’m making, so less chance of misunderstanding...
Well put, I totally agree, I use emojis pretty sparingly, as you said they can be useful sometimes but by and large they feel way too off for me to express my actual emotions, I use them as you say counter to their intended meaning.
Does anyone have any idea or tips how to write an interesting or funny bio for tinder? I like to listen music - mostly rock, rammstein, fvdp, linkin park, HU, drowning pool etc. Student. Basically what the title says. I’ve been plugging away for about 2 months now trying to grow a small hobby community here on Lemmy. It’s doing well, up from 200 to 425 subscribers in the time I’ve been active....
Great question, dont know the answer. Just didnt want you to feel like no one responds to this post either lol. I think generally like 90% of people are lurkers, so if you have 450 subs theres only like 45 people who are posters and even smaller subset post regularly. Of those, subset again and you have poeple who’ll post on your community. My guess is it will take a while but youre doing really good imo, the larger the community the more likely people are to sub and the bigger your subsets get. Keep it up! Whats your community?
Dear lemmy, someone very close to my heart is starting to fall into conspiracy theories. It’s heartbreaking. Among other things, he has now told me that soy beans are not supposed to be consumed by human beings and is convinced that despite the literal centuries of human soy bean cultivation and consumption, we shouldn’t eat...
Three factors that can lead people to believe misinformation are: seeing patterns where none exist, people who strongly trust their intuition/gut reaction, and being ostracized. My advice would be to not belittle their beliefs, try to engage with them and ask how theyve come to believe such things and if there is an opening to tactfully direct them to other information or interpretations of the same information do that.
Its always money. Sounds like youre doing your best, hope he can see eventually whats going on.
As an anecdote, which I wouldnt necessarily recommend following: my father was pretty staunchly against meat substitutes in general. Well it turns out one of his favorite meals, lasgna, my mom had replaced the beef with soy-sub like 10 years ago lol. Dude loves it, she finally got tired of his comments and told him while he had a big mouthful. Hasnt said anything since and now he will eat tofu etc. I dont really endorse deception but it seems to have worked in this case lol
