sbv,

Getting the name wrong is peak dismissiveness

sbv,

so you’re saying it’s a different article now?

sbv,

a while ago

sbv,

It’ll be interesting to see how the Fediverse moves forward without direct monetization.

We’ve seen Usenet become more of a niche platform because it’s hard to monetize. Meanwhile, the popular social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) are dripping in ads, which make it easier for them to build and maintain developer teams.

I want the Fediverse to succeed, but I have a hard time seeing how it can compete for average users without paid developer hours.

sbv,

The communities I frequented in Reddit were pretty positive. I see more snarky comments on Lemmy, but I’m posting more here, so maybe I’m just getting more interactions.

sbv,

DM: OMG! A portal at the bottom of the dungeon leads directly back to the inn! How convenient!

sbv,

The last time I ran a dungeon, it was with old-school dungeon exploration rules: torches that only last an hour, rations, random encounters, and relatively slow movement.

On top of that, the party was being chased by a squad of angry zombie drow. They’d already burned a bunch of resources, and were fairly hurt, so it was a nail biter.

sbv,

I play Fortnite with my kid and some friends. We’ve configured comms so he can only chat with approved friends from RL.

Fortnite has a reputation for getting kids to buy cosmetics, but it isn’t justified. We’ve been playing for a year or so and my guy hasn’t asked to buy anything.

It’s very approachable, so your kid may be able to convince his friends to play too.

sbv,

maybe it’s my screen, but the paper looks kind of yellow around those tears

sbv,

it says it right up there

sbv,

30F seems like it’s outside the ideal temperature range for an orgy

sbv,

I’ve changed my mind, I think I’ll just take the four day work week, thank you.

sbv,

okay, but the orgy is still fine, isn’t it?

What is a term to describe expressing one's opinions with links and memes instead of words?

My views on things often differ from those in my social circle. I am often bombarded with article links and videos from people with no words of their own attached. It is very easy to send a link. It takes a bit of effort to form a coherent paragraph expressing a single thought....

sbv,

How are their writing/typing skills?

I love a good link, but it always needs to be accompanied by a bit of an explanation.

sbv,

If my kids were unmonitored, they’d probably watch game streamers all day, every day.

I rationalize it like watching sports, but I don’t really understand that either.

sbv,

When you were younger did you ever watch a sibling or a friend play a game?

My attention wanders if I’m not playing.

I totally understand that people might enjoy it, however. It just isn’t for me.

sbv,

Fortnite supports trios.

sbv,

maybe with a brick of cheese

nothing helps my self esteem like a sleeve of saltines and a brick of cheese

sbv,

The Earth OnlyFans market is saturated.

sbv,

I’ve been going with something similar to this approach, with the number of sides on the die representing probability of successful outcomes.

It makes the game a little more random and a little more fun.

sbv,

It sounds like most criminal organizations aren’t that sophisticated. Check out Phantom Secure for an interesting story.

It might be a scenario where you only hear about criminals using less secure communications because those are the ones that get caught.

sbv,

It depends on your service provider. In Canada they charge for it. Last time I checked it was around $7/month.

sbv,

They sell (sold?) the recommendation API. When you scrobble, last.fm got to build a corpus of data they could make recommendations from.

sbv,

Sad, but with a lower risk of diabetes:

Every 1 km/hour increase in walking speed was associated with a 9% lower risk of type 2 diabetes, with the minimal threshold of 4km/hour equal to 87 steps/min for men and 100 steps/ min for women, the findings suggest.

sbv,

3000 himars of victory

sbv,

EVs are much more energy efficient

Isn’t the lifetime difference something like 30% better than ICE? It’s definitely better, but it isn’t significantly better.

sbv,

I’ve heard cars described as metal overcoats. People slap them on for the slightest reason.

sbv,

sbv,

the spell really only works on subjects who are past middle age

sbv,

is this what started the no poop challenge?

sbv,

He said a man who he and his assistant are familiar with and have helped in the past came into the office on Herring Cove Road on Thursday and started yelling at the assistant. He then ran at her and grabbed her by the throat.

“He pinned her up against the wall, he started choking her and then he brought his arm back as if he was going to hit her,” said Maguire.

sbv,

I’ve heard this called the jar method.

I have accounts for travel, house expenses, utility bills, groceries, car expenses, and fun money. Each of them gets part of my paycheck. Every couple of months I take a look to see if things are getting out of whack.

The best part is that I can be an idiot and overspend with the fun money account. If I spend it all, there’s absolutely no repercussions, since everything important is already safely in different accounts.

Also, when car expenses (or vacations) roll around, I already have money put aside for it.

sbv,

Pretty much this. I get the “you don’t know what the bad guys will criminalize next” argument, but I have a hard time seeing it, when it comes to my browsing patterns.

sbv,

It’d be cool if the article explained how the $2,875/home would help get them built. And how the 4,000 homes/year would affect the housing market.

sbv,

Fraser said of the Vancouver deal that the cash from the government’s Housing Accelerator Fund would cut barriers to building homes and “incentivize changes” at the municipal level.

This reads like a press release. There’s no explanation of what the money will be used for.

What are the changes? Why will they cause extra building? What’s the likelihood that the homes will actually be built? Who will be able to afford them?

It really wish people would stop being coy with what they want.

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you asking what I want?

If so: I’d like to be able to afford a home in the near future. I’d also like my kids to be able to afford a home in a decade or two.

sbv,

If by ‘a home’ you include a vast and hoarded greenspace

I don’t.

sbv,

I’m holding out for someone to transcribe it. I can’t squint that long.

sbv,

Thank you, fake robot.

sbv,

The box office agrees with you.

sbv,

I was like “this Lemmite gets it,” until I got to the Interstellar part.

But I’m glad we have common ground on the shit show that is Inception. It felt incredibly long. I don’t know if it was because I was bored, or if it’s genuinely six hours long.

sbv,

Mediocre is too kind. The Mario movie was bad.

I took my kids. They kind of enjoyed it, but forgot about it almost immediately.

sbv,

They’re bad. Every one of them.

sbv,

technically, it isn’t even murder

(for once)

sbv,

Most governments have formed with a minority for the past couple of decades. It’s already the reality.

But you’re right that they wouldn’t want to formalize it.

How often to you bail on a half-written post or response?

I have had a tendency since my earliest days on social media where I will get halfway or more through a response, and end up just cancelling it. Sometimes I feel like I’m just being to over the top with snark or otherwise don’t want to be that kind of person, but a lot of the time I’ll decide I just really don’t care...

sbv,

Entirely this. Social media debates are usually public grandstanding. It takes a tonne of time to research and compose a response that few people will see.

sbv,

Can’t you open an account with another bank/co-op/credit union, see if their perks are as good as advertised, and then decide if you want to move?

This isn’t a marriage. It’s where you get a bank card from. Try before you buy, etc.

sbv,

Isn’t that usually a Session 0 agreement? If the campaign uses crit fails, then yes.

Also: best mechanic I’ve heard of for crit fails is the player describing the failure. They’re going to come up with something better 90% of the time.
