We had an Xbox hooked up to a wall mounted TV in our company break room. I used to show up first in the morning and play movies and streams on it for people to breeze by and see throughout the day. I could easily see someone doing this in a game store or gaming cafe.

I started a few months ago, taking advantage of not working so I’m going every day (thankfully backed up by supportive insurance). Here’s the process I’ve developed that works absolute wonders for me:

Note: My electrolysis place is only 15mins away, so this may not work if you’re further away.

1- 60 mins before appointment, take maximum painkillers (for me: 2 extra strength Tylenol).

2- tie up hair and wash the area you’re treating with plain soap, nothing with fancy moisturizers, you’re aiming for dryness.

3- dab a cotton ball or cloth with rubbing alcohol and give the area a wipe down.

4- use a boar bristle brush to gently exfoliate the area. You want to agitate your skin juuuust a bit so the numbing cream can get in as deep as it can, but not so much agitation that you give yourself a rash or it starts hurting.

5- use a finger cot to apply numbing cream (I use Numb520 but any 5% lidocaine cream will work) to where the work will be done. Really use your finger to work the numbing cream into your skin (little circular motions) for an initial pass. Then do a second pass where you goop it on a bit thicker.

6- put plastic wrap on the area and press it against the numbing cream. It should stick in place. Use a sharp knife or scissors to carefully cut a hole for your mouth if you’re covering it.

7- put on a surgical mask to look approximately 2% less like a total crazy person.

8- go to your electrolysis appointment. Ask the clinician to only peel off the plastic wrap for the area they’re immediately working on. Peel some back, wipe off numbing cream, do some pokes. Peel, wipe, poke. I find that if they can uncover an area and work on it for 30 mins, that’s when the peak effectiveness wears off and it’s time to move on to the next area.

Doing all this made a huuuuuuge difference for me.

LibreWolf and the Tor browser would not exist as they do today if Mozilla was not taking money from Google and DuckDuckGo and all those ad companies to develop Firefox as free open source software that could be forked by privacy-forward groups.

So sure, it would be nice if Mozilla made a privacy-focused Firefox version natively, but if a handful of concessions (that I can continue to turn off) are what it takes to have a performant, full-featured, modern FOSS web browser, I’ll take that deal.

I had a lingering balance of 45000 reward points in my account that I tried to make use of today. It was a complete scam.

You can buy discounts with points, maxing out at a $15 discount for 15000 points. But discounts don’t stack - they only apply to one item, the item of the highest value in the cart, and don’t apply to anything on sale or clearance. Or gift cards. Or subscriptions. And shipping anything is an $8 minimum. Plus tax.

So you’re stuck with $15 discounts that you can only use on overpriced games and tchotchke garbage, most of which gets consumed by shipping charges.

I spent an hour coming through the online store looking for something, anything, useful or interesting to use the discounts on with no luck. Items aren’t even worth reselling on Ebay.

The original photo is here is a pale imitation. The OG you’re looking for is The Rollercoaster by Anatex Enterprises (of Los Angeles, CA).

Five unique, color differentiated wires of balls out, rail-riding, gravity-driven wooden bead mayhem. Though the blue wire barely counts. Its banal path is curt and uninspired; clearly an afterthought in both design and execution. F-tier. Green and orange make the entire experience worth it though.

I’m not certain whether or not it was effectively debunked, but there’s a lot of personal belief and interest around the idea that one’s gender is what one says it is and no amount of anatomical measurement (genital length, count of brain neurons or genetic flag) is permitted to say whether or not you are what you deem yourself to be.

If such a test did exist, then what’s to be said of trans people whose gender expression doesn’t line up with the test? What’s to be said of cis people in the same boat? Are they trans whether they like it or not? Are they living a lie?

It’s a sticky topic either way.

What are people using to access Lemmy using a desktop, what are the preferred apps or clients that you use on either Mac or Windows.

There are plenty of third party apps for Lemmy on Android/iPhone or Web, but are there any decent apps built for desktop use? Is it just simply a matter of relying on a web interface currently, or are there any well rounded apps out there that are worth mentioning.

Same here.

But as a user of Firefox on mobile, I’m running into a weird persistent issue around the back button and post listings on pages beyond the first page. Sometimes, when I click into either the comments of a post or the post itself, when I click the ‘back’ button to return to the post list, sometimes I will end up on the previous page of search results (as though I pressed the back button twice).

Reloading the page seems to fix the problem (showing me the post list page that I expect), but it’s still weird.

Consumer Reports created an iOS and Android app that collects your account information for a bunch of businesses and provides the option of sending “do not sell” requests to them en-mass. It also helps you delete unwanted accounts and stay up to date on which businesses are doing what with your data.

Not bad, but it all depends on how much you trust Consumer Reports. It appears they have a fairly good reputation as a consumer advocacy non-profit, but I didn’t do much deep dive research.

Ideally, this is something FTC would have a hand in for consumers in the United States – improving EULA comprehension. I can imagine a world where businesses and applications have EULAs with ESRB-like ratings or tags: “location data”, “purchase history”, “3rd party data exports”, “X year retention” to show what you’re agreeing to. I’d love to brainstorm on how else that could change.
