I recommend using this amazing ressource: github.com/jc141x/portal for games already repacked for linux and ready to run with a simple bash script.

From their Github: Q: Why use the dwarfs format? It makes it less convenient for users. A: Our purpose is to serve a community which is involved enough to be able to follow a short setup page. It enables us to provide users with new technological features that we find useful.

No worries, I actually did not find it either even tho I had read it before. Seems that they removed it from the FAQ but it is still in the search results. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/pictrs/image/b3502800-0893-4ae3-8ec5-ffd1fcd6ece2.jpeg

Where to get Minecraft for Arch Linux from?

Arrrr my fellow pirates. Since I’m very unexperienced with the seas I ask for you guys, where can I get Minecraft from for Arch Linux. It’s not because I’m not willing to pay 20€ but because Microsoft is a giant bitch and I’m not willing to put money in their mouth(especially after they changed their privacy policy).

I use UltimMC (MultiMC with cracked support). I use Artix btw.

Issue with Network Manager

Hello! I use an Arch Linux distro with KDE on an ASUS X570 board that has built-in wifi. The issue is that I can’t for the life of me get the wifi to work without asking me for the wifi password what feels like every hour. The hardware is active, the software is active, Network Manager is active, the wifi profile is fine, the...

Had the same issue with a wifi card, every reboot it would re ask me or the wifi password. Solved it by installing kwallet and configuring it properly.

Recommendations for a FOSS Cross-Platform Note-Taking Application

Up to now I’ve been using Simplenote, which has a Linux client (but also Android & iOS) & supports live collaboration on notes. However, Simplenote hasn’t had a meaningful update for a long time, & it’s recently been behaving strangely, e.g. notes undeleting themselves, line duplications & undeletions....

Möbius sync is a Syncthing client for iOS. I have the same setup as Foss Is Fun and everything works very well

Very sad that Firefox does not provide an .ipa file of firefox without webkit. Jailbroken, trollstore and altstore users could benefit of extensions before apple allows sideloading.

Selfhosting an email is very hard but I think that at the end it’s worth it

jvrava9,

Interesting, is this a wild spread problem? I have heard of people that host email services for years and have no problems.

Any way to listen to music (privately?) (lemmy.ml)

I’m going insane. I cannot for the life of me find a suitable way to listen to music privately. I’m on iOS, and I don’t know whether to just stick to Apple Music or give up on music in general (I tried, TRIED to go local, but all the apps are shitty). Any way to listen to music and not have your data compromised? Should I...

Im on a Jailbroken iPhone with all Apple network requests blocked with AdGuard and no Appleid.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Jailbreak your iPhone if you can or use AltStore or Trollstore is avalable on your device to sideload Spotify++ which allows you to have Spotify Premium for free, tho you can’t download songs sadly. Then, sign up for an account using an email from 10minutemail.net and you are done. Or just use VLC with downloaded songs.

How to Sideload apps, How to Jailbreak, Jailbreak Megathread. AdGuard Pro .ipa. My Blocklst Lists. The lists are Very aggressive, I suggest you to maintain a Whitelist. For getting apps without an Apple ID, check out some sources, repo’s and telegram channels Here.

You may be right if you are not as concerned about privacy and being able to not rely on the App Store for everything. I can install any app that is not in the App Store. Ex: new encryption laws come out like in the UK and all Matrix clients are removed from the App Store. I can still download them because I don’t rely on the App Store.

I personally started on Linux Mint and after 6 months jumped to Artix. Mint is a very good base to learn and I recommend to just jump in and search everything you dont know how to do and eventually you will know enough to be comfortable using Mint.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I wanted to switch to KDE, had broken packages problems on Mint as some required newer ones but Mint did not yet have them and the AUR was a massive gain.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

No, just that I customized the max out of Cinnamon and I wanted more options.

Canadian here, I am fluent in English, French and Russian. Currently learning Spanish as well. If I can do it at 15y, you can too. Edit: Uyuu pointed out that its actually easier when you are young and I agree.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I can confirm this, in high school (Québec) no one really gives a f**k about learning English as they don’t need it if they stay in Québec and don’t understand that knowing English is a valuable asset.

jvrava9,

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Its not that bad. I joined a school with spanish classes this year and the others had 2y more of knowledge on me as I did not learn Spanish at my previous school, but I still managed to pull off a year average of 82% without studying. If you know french, then its a lot easier to learn Spanish as the verb and sentence structure is similar, not speaking about the amount of words that are the same in both languages. Knowing Russian helps as well as it also has some similarities. If Inhad a tip to give, it would be to not be shy trying to speak as there aure no negative and the positives are major. If you mispronounced a word, someone will just correct you and you will likely not repeat the same mistake again instead of you being shy to say something wrong.

What is your unbiased opinion on Manjaro?

I am a Linux noobie and have only used Mint for around six months now. While I have definitely learned a lot, I don’t have the time to always be doing crazy power user stuff and just want something that works out of the box. While I love Mint, I want to try out other decently easy to use distros as well, specifically not based...
