If only leaking your IP was the huge exploit lmao. It literally allowed for arbitrary code execution which is infinitely worse. Honestly bad title by the author of that article, it’s far more serious than they let on.
Pretty unfortunate bug but at least they patched it pretty quickly it seems.
I hope that this post doesn’t come across as impatient, or demanding – I fully understand that Lemmy is donation funded, and is created out of the benevolence of the devs. I am merely curious if any announcement has been made in regards to a specific ETA. I am certainly excited for its release, but I also completely...
I think FPS was actually selected, not frametimes. 1% low frametimes of 89 does not make sense.
There is an issue with the image in the article, but not the one that you might think it was. The FPS should have been more clearly indicated that it was the selected tab and then it probably would have been fine.
edit: I went to the base website www.computerbase.de/2023-12/…/2/ it’s in German, but, it seems like the frametimes and frame rates are nearly the exact same values - which doesn’t even seem to make sense to me?
That does seem like an unfortunate side effect of federation. If only there were some way this could be handled, perhaps a protocol defining how communication should work, and maybe they could call it ActivityPub.
Also as CRTs become more and more rare as more of them die off and new ones typically aren’t manufactured anymore, it’s not surprising that the prices are just skyrocketing lol
I think it’s because CRTs seem like such a thing from the 80s, and Shrek is more recent than that, but Shrek and CRTs were both fairly common in the early 2000s.
For older retro-style game consoles, a CRT still provides a better display experience, on LCDs you get smuging/bluring that just wasn’t present on CRTs for these older consoles. An LCD etc just doesn’t do them justice the way a CRT does.
Upvotes aren’t even working on lemmy.ml instance currently since there’s an SSR bug, I think it counts the upvotes but it doesn’t display that I’ve upvoted something lol
I dunno why people wouldn’t believe that launchers etc can break on Linux through wine/proton etc, this is something that happens somewhat commonly tbh.
I’d love a VRMMO like an actual Sword Art Online. Of course, I don’t even have a VR system. However, if there were a nice VRMMO, I’d shell out the money for one.
It’s honestly pretty stable at this point. There’s only maybe one or two bugs left but it’s very usable. I’ve enjoyed the conversations I’ve had on here too.
I got it from Amazon, but I’m not in USA so for some reason the discount seems much larger on my Amazon which is the complete opposite of how sales usually work here. It’s the Samsung T7 Shield 4TB, it seems pretty nice.
I’m a millennial but I don’t really like romance/romcom all that much for the most part unless it’s in anime format for some reason. For movies and even TV I generally prefer action, violence, thrillers, etc. I have no idea why, I think it’s kind of interesting that the medium changes my preferences so much lol
I use Ubuntu. It generally tends to be boring stable, which is kinda what I want out of my OS these days. I can still customize it, and even break it if I really get bored, but it’s nice to have things just work for the most part.
Yep, games being designed to support Ubuntu first is a big reason why I’m so far into Ubuntu. I could easily switch if I needed to since I’m both a programmer and very comfortable with Linux but for me, it does everything I need an OS to do.
Honestly, kind of but maybe not really. I mean, yes there are improvements of course, but a bunch of them aren’t very visible, and of course I understand that. It just feels very stable.
It kind of just works, for the most part, which is a good thing - minus this bug which has been fixed over a month ago but I guess is not live yet on every instance: github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1968 because I still run into this bug, and it’s still annoying unfortunately.
Outside of that, there’s not really too much going wrong for me to notice any huge improvements.
edit: Oh, it’s because 0.19.0 UI has not had a stable release yet (nor has 0.19.0 server), once that releases as long as there aren’t many regressions I won’t really have any more complaints about Lemmy (other than maybe the non-SEO-friendly URLs).
Firefox users are reporting an 'artificial' load time on YouTube videos. YouTube says it's part of a plan to make people who use adblockers "experience suboptimal viewing, regardless of the browser they are using."
This is why I refuse to pay for YouTube. They are literally actively making the experience worse, rather than trying to make the paid experience better. This is laughable.
Also there can be social consequences from what you say, free speech does not protect you from that, despite some people thinking that it does or that it should.
That’s pretty sad that Valve made a repairability downgrade like that. They had to have done that intentionally, right? Is there even any reason to glue down the cable?
I’m glad to hear they’re still working on it, they are one of the few companies I would actually trust to follow through with what they’re saying. It is in their best interest to deliver it so I’m sure they will.
Honestly I agree 100%. I feel like there are some things that shouldn’t be joked about, and to actually go through with a pretend proposal like that is fucked up beyond words.
This is how it works where I live from a legal point of view too. If you “show up” (in-person or remote doesn’t matter) to your full-time job and are “available” for work but they don’t have enough for you, legally you must be paid for your full number of hours (your entire salary). You are paid for your time, not your results. You keep your job by delivering good results, however, since that’s a different matter.
I was laid off earlier this year and was locked out of my Google account and Slack and everything else company related immediately after my meeting with HR and my manager ended. It was shocking how quick they were about it.
I kind of wonder if Google Workspace has a “Fire Employee” button for administrators. I think it probably does.
