My father, who convinced me (16 m) at the time to move in with him instead of my mother when they moved. All 3 of the other siblings stayed with my mother. Was thinking that as well. Why open them up to someone who damaged your mental health and worth so badly? What if he does the same thing to them when they get older?
He had a point until he mentioned Reddit. While it used to be true that it had really detailed answers to specific questions, who knows how long that will remain the case with all their changes.
Try out SearXING (https://paulgo.io/) where you can edit preferences on what it crawls.
If I’m getting a phone call, it better be an emergency. Otherwise, send a text! Phone calls are just rude (unless I get a heads up or asked first - via a text).

There was this legendary comment on reddit to a thread asking people what would their plan be if they were immortal and got milion dollars, but there was a superintelligent immortal snail also with milion dollars who would want to kill them. I was trying to find it but as far as I can tell OP removed it. Does anyone here have it...
You and a super intelligent snail both get 1 million dollars, and you both become immortal, however you die if the snail touches you. It always knows where you are and slowly crawls toward you. What’s your plan?
I’ve said this previously, and I’ll say it again: we’re severely under-resourced. Not just XFS, the whole fsdevel community. As a developer and later a maintainer, I’ve learnt the hard way that there is a very large amount of non-coding work is necessary to build a good filesystem. There’s enough not-really-coding work...

So i still have depression and im constantly bored, i feel like a loser who cant do anything right. I want to let my creativeness out, make something i can share with the world or family, but im probably dreaming too big. I cant stand being depressed and bored, it stinks, everyone tells me to work out but i lack the motivation...
I came here to also suggest birdwatching! You don’t need to go very far, just sit out on the porch and listen/watch the birds go by. Then, start googling for the local bird types to see if you can start recognizing their species by the way they look or sound. Expand to local plants nearby or other animals you may notice.
It’s free, easy, educational, and it gets you outside for a little bit which might help you get out of your depression cloud, even if it’s just for a little while.
I recently bought a PocketBook to motivate myself to read more. So far, it helped alot. I startet to carry it where ever i go. The thing is, its obviously not a real book. You dont have the same experience you get if you would read a real physical book, which is a bigger problem than i thought at first.
So tell me about your thoughts about eBooks :)
Nothing beats the feel and smell of reading a physical book, but ebooks do have their place. If I’m traveling somewhere and I don’t want to carry extra things or worry about damaging my book, I can just read the epub version on my phone. Convenience is a huge plus, but it does feel less engaging and a book will never need you to recharge it.
Gardening, cooking, and some other big favorites are what I keep a physical copy for. The rest are all digital.
It feels like I found a nice mom n pop shop but Walmart and Starbucks are trying to force their way on the same block. I get that you can defederate or block communities you don’t want, but having FB shove their way in this space feels intrusive.
Why YSK: When you cook meat, any water on the surface must first evaporate before much browning can occur. Removing the moisture first means that the heat of the cooking...
Bought this one off a similar thread a while back. Works great but I definitely have to use the sensitive setting. Perfect to use while showering so I don’t have to worry about making a mess.
Most of us are Reddit refugees, and probably clicking more random links than we ever did before on websites we’ve never seen before. You’re likely no longer logged in because you visited another instance. For example, if I’m browsing from lemmy.ml but click on a link to !baking, now I’m kbin and not Lemmy.
What you can do from your instance is go to your browser, paste the magazine or community url into the search bar, then subscribe from their sidebar.
The question is in subj. Recently switched to Apple infrastructure and witch my attention span got a problem. When I left my watch behind I would like my phone to remind me of that. Can I do it?
Maybe you could make an applet in IFTTT for this. Just a simple notification when you leave a location (home) to check for your smartwatch. You could probably build an applet if you leave a location but your smartwatch doesn’t, though it looks like they have a pro/paid version you’d have to subscribe to.
Exactly. Reddit was known as the front page of the internet and a lot of people who use it casually may not know the details (or care) about what’s going down. They’ll still visit the site for certain things, but just like fb, it’ll be filled with a lot of trash.
Even now, there are lots of people still using the site, which is why there are Lemmy bots grabbing and reposting to certain communities. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see it crash and burn, but could you see celebrities doing AMAs on Lemmy when they could barely understand Reddit?
