On my first trip to the UK, we booked into a hotel recommended to us by local friends. The room had “Shower en Suite”, which we assumed was a bathroom en suite with a shower (in contrast to one with a bathtub).
When we entered the (fairly large) hotel room, there was a blue plastic booth like one of those festival toilets in the middle of the room. It was the shower, and you had to insert coins to actually get hot water. No actual bathroom at all, just the plastic shower in the middle of the room. The toilet was a shared, ultra-small room halfway down the stairs. And lacking toilet paper. “The owner did not buy any” was the reason given by the staff.
The breakfast was interesting, too: You only got either this or that of common English breakfast stuff - either Toast, jam, and marmelade or fried egg, sausage, and beans. Either orange juice or half a grapefruit, etc. No buffet like about any other place offered.
That was quite an awkward situation for our friends who had recommended that hotel - based on their own experience 40-50 years ago. I assume it was one of the better places then.
I wonder what my sisters exchange students would have said if they had encountered snow on their visit. They were here during the summer, wearing jumpers and hoodies and still freezing…
Spearfish Lake Tales by Wes Boyd. Really nice books written by someone who had a lifelong experience of writing. Start at the bottom (with the first story), and work upwards. This guy definitely died to early.

“Sour” skittles, my ass. You should try the British extra sour hard candy we’ve bought recently. I thought that you could only make sweets that sour until I tried them. It was a very eye closing, mouth burning experience ;-)

Who would have thought that people who only learned to shoot an kill other people instead of words and math would have problems in an office job? this is like politicians who after many years in opposition suddenly find themselves at the helm, and instead of just criticizing the failures of others have actually do something to make things better.
I don’t think a mango tree would copy with the climate here. And there is a severe lack of Kangaroos around this place, maybe except for a bunch in the zoo…
It was a legitimate question with quite an amount of joke in it. There is a group about rabbits already in existence IIRC, so I was not sure if this was a real idea to have a bunny in addition to the rabbit group (is there actually a difference?), or if bunny was something, well, totally different.
I have a number of accounts across the lemmyverse, too. Not as sock puppet accounts, as one idiot claimed, but as some instances actually offer different content.
Just the opposite of that workstation cluster back in university. They had an account named “shutdown” that did exactly that. It had no password and was network-accessable…
I have read British and American books galore (i.e. thousands), and I’ve listened to English (BBC, BFBS) and American (AFN, Movies) audio sources. My vocabulary and accent is a wild mix of both, so the British consider me American, and the American think I’m British.

The $10 will just not give you targeted ads. Most likely, they will still select things for you based on your profile and also sell information from that profile to the real customers.
