Colorado Supreme Court, in landmark ruling, bans Trump from state’s ballot under insurrection clause (apnews.com)

DENVER (AP) — A divided Colorado Supreme Court on Tuesday declared former President Donald Trump ineligible for the White House under the U.S. Constitution’s insurrection clause and removed him from the state’s presidential primary ballot, setting up a likely showdown in the nation’s highest court to decide whether the...

Drusas,

Since the Constitution gives management and oversight of elections to the States, does that not mean that the Colorado Supreme Court is the highest court which has jurisdiction on this case?

Drusas,

How can SCOTUS even have jurisdiction when the Constitution specifically gives the power to oversee elections to the States? This seems more like it should require Congress to change the Constitution if the federal government wants the power to supersede the decision of the Supreme Court of Colorado.

Drusas,

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but they are following the Constitution in making this decision. The Constitution does not require a conviction.

Drusas,

Eat the chips. But stay and observe your future.

Drusas,

Why is "your" in quotation marks?

Drusas,

This is not a meme, but it is very cute.

Drusas,

Send him Big Macs every single day and wait for him to have a heart attack.

Drusas,

Republicans are trying their damnedest to make voting illegal and/or overly burdensome even within the United States, so good luck there.

Drusas,

Studying cybersecurity helps, but you're not likely to get a job in cybersecurity until you have had multiple years of experience in development in a software company, from my experience in the US in the tech industry.

I hope somebody directly within the cybersecurity field can recommend a specific career path, but my anecdotal experience is that you have to work a few years before you will be considered for something security related.

Drusas,

I'm Colonel Mustard!

Drusas,

As someone who keeps up on the news a lot, I gather it's about as bad care as it is in the US.

Drusas,

Except it's not we. The majority's vote is overruled by the electoral college.

Drusas,

Don't Starve is probably the supreme example of this. It's great. You can adjust difficulty in specific areas.

Drusas,

Do not sully that name. The X-Files is sacrosanct.

Drusas,

I'll sometimes boost a post, put that is the extent of my engagement. However, I have never cared for microblogging in general.

Why don't rabies infected humans act like rabies infected animals

This always puzzled me. Why don’t humans act much more aggressive or crazed like its often depicted with animals. Afaik there’s 2 types of rabies, “dumb” and “furious” so my question is more towards the 2nd type. For example, we never hear of rabies causing a human to accidentally bite another human so why is that?

Drusas, (edited )

Mice have been known to spread plague even in recent times, for example. Fortunately, it's treatable with antibiotics.

Drusas,

That's kind of a "no duh" statement. Everybody knows fleas transmit it. The point is that it's still around.

Drusas,

I was actually thinking of Oregon. When I lived there a few years back, there were a couple of cases of people who came down with plague after handling wild mice (because of the fleas, obviously, but that should be able to go without saying).

Hantivirus, to my knowledge, can happen anywhere but is more prevalent in the American west, including southwest.

Drusas,

Fucking savages.

Drusas,

Mushrooms.

They're beautiful, adorable, and delicious.

Drusas,

Apparently he practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I don't know how good he is, but yes, he apparently is a fighter as well as an actor.

Drusas,

A good quality sun lamp.

Drusas,

I'm somewhat faceblind but great at voices. There's no escape. It also totally ruins a lot of animated shows and movies because a very small number of voice actors get a majority of the work.

Drusas,

Nostalgia is an important part of it.

Drusas,

I didn't even like it as a kid.

Drusas,

Winter in general: Storm of the Century, and I don't care how cheesy it is

Christmas: Gremlins

Drusas,

The never-before-seen animal is a sea spider — a distant relative of horseshoe crabs and arachnids that live on the ocean floor, eat through a straw-like proboscis instead of a mouth and breathe through their legs.

Neat.

Also, I wonder if it's tasty.

RTR#43 Break time (kbin.social)

I just got back from a over five-hour walk with my dog. I had promised him that for a long time, and both of us really needed it ;-) Now, a quick lunch, and I still have an evening workout ahead of me. Today, I decided to take a break from coding, although I probably won't resist doing something, and at night I'll probably tweak...

/kbin logotype
Drusas,

Damn, my dogs would be stopping for a nap long before we hit that mark.

Anyway, thanks for your updates.

Drusas,

And Republicans in the US are holding up much-needed aid for these people. It's disgusting. Sure would be great if they could get their heads out of Israel's ass and go back to doing necessary work.

Drusas,

For those of you who think you are using a local pharmacy, you might want to check whether or not they're owned by one of these. They buy out local pharmacies without obviously rebranding. And then they kill the store. At least, that's Rite Aid's MO.

Drusas,

kbin.social is far and away less toxic than lemmy.world, probably because of the smaller community.

Drusas,

This is the kind of doxxing I can get behind.

How to intentionally get terminated from a job without sacrificing unemployment benefits?

My friend is a customer service rep who is ready to retire. Her company is talking about layoffs with 13+ weeks of severance, but when she asked (anonymously) if they were accepting volunteers, they said no. In case she’s not one of the ones told to clean out her desk, what are the ways she could get terminated while...

Drusas,

I really don't think there's anything unethical about this. They're going to be laying people off anyway; they may as well lay off someone it will hurt less.

Drusas,

Have they not noticed that virtually no one likes to hear their own voice because it sounds different than it does in their head?

Drusas,

I dislike them as a group / species but give each individual the benefit of the doubt.

I do believe that, in general but not exclusively, humans are selfish, short-sighted, and greedy. But I still treat individuals with kindness.

Drusas,

Me with only half sarcasm. Or maybe 20% sarcasm. They are kind of objectively the worst.

Drusas,

And you are here, on the internet?! What a rare species. We must observe you.

how similar are other North American countries to USA??

I mean the other 2 countries, Canada and Mexico, how similar are both of them to United States?? Both countries have a similar economy and democracy etc, and I think those two countries share things like supermarkets, stores, etc. I suppose the cultural differences are not a lot, that is very nice.

Drusas,

You can even see Russia from your backyard.

Drusas,

One what?

Drusas,

Please just don't.

Drusas,

I've lived in every corner of the country, but not the flyovers, and all I can say is that you are completely correct.

Drusas,

Yes is the simple answer to your question. The cultural differences can be dramatic.

Drusas,

And architecture actually does vary from region to region quite a bit.

Drusas,

Are you telling me everywhere in Canada aside from Alberta and Quebec have amazing food? Because that's what I associate with Portland. Also what might be the world's greatest bookstore.

Drusas,

You might want to try a medication for hyperhidrosis.

Drusas,

Yes, that is what I said.

Drusas,

I appreciate your elaborating.

I was going to say more until I realized that you and I are using different definitions of 'toxin'. There is more than one definition and yours is not the one that I was approaching the subject from. To me, a toxin is something that causes disease. But yes, you're right, a plant is considered toxic for different reasons.
