BDG was my first impression too. And he would totally do that.

Continue to live my life. The president has much less to do with the daily lives of Americans than the media would lead you to believe. They represent only one of the three branches of government.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

What alternative system would you propose?

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I started a community (forgottenweapons) here because I missed that content from when I used Reddit. So I’m a mod by default.

I think the issue is the ‘assuming good auto moderation’ part. We’ve seen attempts in video games at auto moderation. That ends up in comedic errors like banning Spanish people for saying the word black in their native tongues.

I think a human touch will always be necessary in these kinds of judgement calls. Or at least they will be for some time.

The Final 4 are here! UPDATE: 3 new pics added for each owl in their respective threads (lemmy.world)

Some tough battles were fought yesterday, and we sadly sat goodbye to 2 more very loved owls. Both matches came down to the end and we’re very close, so condolences to about half of you. I know I was rooting for the Flammy, his rise to fame has been very fun to watch develop....

Snowy needs to bring home the W. Truly a classic owl.

Even more valuable than infantry training is having a functional supply line. Logistics wins wars.

FireTower,

You and I are not the same.

You upvote comments that are relevant to the thread.

I downvote every comment to save your mothers.

I can’t do pictures right now because of the severs but insert Giancarlo Esposito picture here.

The original Blade Runner movie is not nearly as good as the sequel. The sequel highlights how lesser the original’s plot was. We overly praise the first one because of the Tear in the Rain Speech.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks, to be clear I don’t dislike the original. It does a lot of stuff good, like world building. But 2049 is actually structured with acts and has a main character who develops throughout the film.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

It’s definitely a classic, it just seems like the parts with Ford in the middle of the film doesn’t really achieve much to me. I think a version of the film around Deckard chasing just Roy Batty (and not the others) might have been better. Hauer did fantastic work every time he was on screen he should have got more.

But maybe it was an artistic choice to include Deckard hunting the other replicants as a commentary on meaningless violence.

For anyone curious deer have a velvety layer on their antlers that allows the antlers to grow. This layer eventually falls/is rubbed off of the antlers leaving the bone exposed. That’s what’s happening here.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

That’s like arguing a condom is less effective at preventing pregnancy than a trash bag, because the condom isn’t as big.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

If I’m reading between the lines right, I think their issue is that they’re objecting to the notion of there being two parties to choose from. In their eyes there’s only one choice, as the other is undesirable. Which if anything supports your point (possibly unintentionally).

That said responding to a comment on electoral diversity with talk about getting shot next to a wall is unhinged.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I agree. It felt like a finale.

FireTower,

Good. Lemmy, like Reddit, is fundamentally user driven platform. The most important thing for the life of it is people making posts.

how similar are other North American countries to USA??

I mean the other 2 countries, Canada and Mexico, how similar are both of them to United States?? Both countries have a similar economy and democracy etc, and I think those two countries share things like supermarkets, stores, etc. I suppose the cultural differences are not a lot, that is very nice.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, so much diversity in your culture of strip malls and and suburbs.

inb4 someone names one of five cities with unique architecture in America.

There’s a lot more to culture than architecture.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

We have more progressive things like universal healthcare, decent public education. The US really seems intent on not having those because, as I see it, they don’t want black people to have it.

The American k-12 education system is varied in quality based on the municipality.

Not the fur farm side of the industry but actual trapping is still done but as a means of controlled population management for furbears. Specific species like beaver have a tendency to continually grow their populations as many places we’ve extirpated all natural predators.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

The point is that it allows us to gain metrics on the population so we can implement meaningful changes, based on data.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

The actual amount of trapping is limited meaning the removed animals are de minimis compared to the total population.

It’s important to continue to collect data as you implement changes to ensure that your efforts aren’t having adverse effects.

Here’s a report on the practice: nhfishandwildlife.com/…/W89R21-6Furbearer 2023-Fi…

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Dead furbearers are no longer a part of the population due to the means of sampling, trapping. So they’ve been removed from the population.

You know IMDB? Well there’s also IMFDB, Internet Movie Firearms Data Base. You can look up any movie and figure out what guns were used in it.

For example here’s the one for the movie HEAT (1995)

www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Heat

FireTower,

Sometimes you see one written by someone who hates a person with that name.

FireTower,

To be fair some new stuff has happened in the life of the guy the movie was about.

You don’t own digital media for the most part. When you ‘buy’ a movie digitally you’re simply purchasing a license to stream that movie at home.

Sony can’t go into your home and take your DVD. Sony can sign a contract with the IP holders of Mythbusters that allow them to sell licenses for it. The contract that Sony and the IP holder make can stipulate that they can’t stream it to anyone who had previously paid for it after X amount of years if they don’t renew their contract.

When you buy that Mythbusters license from Sony in the TOS you’ll likely find that there’s likely text reflecting this reality.

TLDR: You’re not buying the movie you’re buying a license to stream that movie from Sony so long as they have a deal with the IP holder.

What inconsequential or surprisingly good thing can I get from Aliexpress?

Im curious as I usually use the site very occasionally to get certain electronic parts or order from PCBway like I just picked up some cheap but infinitely better than stock gps antennas for my LoRa T beams and im about to get a set of also still cheap but much better than stock 915mhz antennas but i kinda wanna throw some other...

If you 3D print, heat inserts. You can use them to insert metal threads into a printed object with a soldering iron to allow you to use standard machine screws in projects.

Scopes, binoculars, and telescopes.

I agree with this technical and legal analysis. If it was more L shaped you might be able to claim it’s a pistol. But as is they’d probably claim it’s disguised.

The problem isn’t that rectal nature of the device but that it’s mimicing a different object.

Vote for your state’s office to change that, the federal government isn’t kicking down doors over weed.

FireTower,

Not a mechanic but even if it is technically too old you maybe be fine if you keep it and in the event you get a flat simply replace the flat with a new tire, after getting to a tire shop on the spare.

Wool base layer, insulated mid layer, rain/windproof outer shell. They key here is too add/remove layers as needed, dictated by the weather and how active you’re being at the moment.

FireTower, (edited )
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

You aren’t just heating up your own body w/ homeostasis, you’re heating up the air around you as it radiates off of your body. You will be warmer with tighter fitting clothes. Looser clothes can help with air flow, but if the air is -10°F air flow isn’t your friend.

Insulation is about trapping the air your body has warmed up next to your body, so you don’t need to constantly spend energy heating up cold air.

I’m not sure what sort of activity you’re planning on so I can’t give very good recommendations on exactly what to wear. But I would say just buy clothes that fit you. You probably shouldn’t be wearing so many thick layers that it requires you to go a size up.

Also keep in mind if you’re so warm you start to sweat, once you cool down that sweat is going to make you feel even colder.

Again wear wool, Merino wool if you can. Don’t wear cotton.

Don’t even mention the fediverse, unless they pry. It’s another thing to explain.

If they get Reddit just say it’s like a bunch of mini Reddits connected to each other.

They probably didn’t hire any lawyers for their writing team. This is pretty common in legal movies and shows. They aren’t making movies for lawyers who know about ex parte hearings. They’re making movies for the average Joe who can be convinced someone was found guilty in a civil case.

You might also have some at your work place collecting dust. I know my work bought boxes of them that haven’t yet expired months ago and they aren’t going anywhere.
