Hannibal? The makeup alone took 6 hours each day.

This needs to be way higher. It’s so full of over the top destruction, crazy characters, and a fun message of how people of all classes deserve to fight for survival. I rewatch this movie all the time because it’s just so much fun.

This is how it’ll happen. Opt in. They’ll charge more by default and then you can share your safe driving with them to lower your premium. It’s often how it currently works with odometer readings, except not through a smart car, just a quick dash reading.

iOS 17 Safari (especially with enhanced fingerprint protection on) is really good at fingerprint protection. It rotates a few data points like canvas ID so that it makes you look like a new fingerprint each time.

Fingerprint analyzers can find out lots about your fingerprint that way, but if your fingerprint keeps changing, it becomes difficult to identify you. Unique fingerprints don’t mean anything if your fingerprint keeps changing.

Imagine I keep a log of everyone I encounter… their race, hair colour, eye colour, glasses shape, accent, gender, fingernail length, ear lobe shape, everything. I would probably encounter the same people every so often, and I would be able to recognize them from my log.

Now imagine that one of them started dying their hair and putting in coloured contact lenses, and they changed it up every day. I may be able to collect all of the details about them. They’re very unique. But… I couldn’t match them against anyone in my log, even though I’ve seen them multiple times.

Having a unique browser fingerprint is perfectly fine if it constantly changes. They can collect all of those details about you, but if you keep changing key details, they won’t be able to recognize you.

Normally I would upvote, but 2024 is a leap year. It’s 365.

It would be pretty funny for a court to actually determine that a “just business” is synonymous with “doing evil”

It’s not worth $20b. That was his own estimation, and remember step 2.

Fidelity estimates its worth to be much lower.

For most laws, there’s some idiot that proved it was necessary. Who were the idiots? I hope they’re not still employed.

The person is in their contacts as Dad, yet the dad says “Thanks dad”. Who’s the dad?

1923 is a little premature. He wasn’t appointed Chancellor of Germany until 10 years after that. Hitler was actually in prison in 1923 for attempting a coup, so it wouldn’t have been too upsetting to say you were against him.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Seriously. How is it that the guy who didn’t put an intermission in his 3.5 hour movie is whining about people not wanting to see his movies in the cinema anymore?

I’ll watch this one, but I’ll do it at home where I can take needed breaks.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Not sure it makes the point you want it to make when you compare actors to pigs getting led to slaughter.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

This is a great point to make. And maybe he should be celebrating home theatres. It’s my home theatre where I watch the serious drama. It’s the big screen where I watch the explosions.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

You could also argue that drama and emotion can be safest experienced at home.

Save the wild action for the arena of the theatre.

Luckily malaria isn’t spreading where all the anti-vaxxers are. Argue all they want, it’ll save so many lives.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

From what I read, malaria isn’t spread human-to-human, so it matters more directly whether you yourself have been vaccinated. Herd immunity isn’t much of a factor. If malaria started spreading near you, get vaccinated against it. Those who don’t would die.

Maybe with one ship worker screaming out “WILSOOON!!!”

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

The “residential schools” implies that, but seriously, it’s watered down when you don’t mention the whole “geonocide” part.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Right? It’s such a US way of thinking to assume the entire world needs to hear about your issues.

TheRaven,

And some of us were really excited to play this. And now we have a game that wasn’t.

Not all games that release have to be what you want. Some can be what I want too.

Is there anyone working on a federated equivalent to letterboxd?

With today’s news of Letterboxd being acquired by an investment company, I got to wondering if I should start weaning my movie obsession off of there and onto something more open before the inevitable enshittification begins. I did a cursory search and found nothing promising, but figured the braintrust here might know...

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

I want this so much. And I want apps like Plex to be able to read from it and update my watch progress.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

With the price of textbooks, maybe they should.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Unfortunately so does the United States

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Right? Even if COVID died off entirely, it just makes sense to require masks in hospitals. At least in certain areas where people are more vulnerable to viruses. It keeps patients safer, it keeps healthcare workers safer, and it keeps me safer even if I’m just visiting.

This to me is like restaurant workers washing their hands. Why wouldn’t we require it?

TheRaven,

I love Halloween. I start decorating in August.

But if this plan rolled out, it would hold back Christmas instead of letting it steamroll over the other holidays. I would totally support this.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Same here. When I first got it, I left it on the MagSafe charger while it downloaded from my iCloud backup. Came back hours later to see it stopped syncing because it was too hot.

Let people enjoy things, unless that thing is not letting people enjoy things.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

So atmospheric. They really did a great job creating a galaxy that has evolved very separately from the one we know.

I love that they brought back the Nightsisters. It was a shame to kill them off. I’m happy we may get more Nightsister stories in the future.

I love the lore they’re establishing with the purrgil and the witches who rode them before time had numbers. I’m wondering how much it’ll play into Dawn of the Jedi.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t think so. The average fan may not know who Thrawn or Ezra is. Showing them in the last 10 minutes isn’t enough to get people to continue watching. They’ll reveal them in this episode or the next and use Thrawn’s appearance to show just how big of a threat he is. Someone may die. Then the series will end with Thrawn making his way to the original galaxy, making us intrigued as to what he’ll do when he’s there.

Without showing him enough, no one will feel that he’s a threat (without prior knowledge of him), and no one will care that he gets back to the main galaxy.

I somewhat agree, but for my own mental health I’ve had to try and avoid it if I can. I still stay informed, I just don’t want US politics in every area of my life. I probably agree with most people on this site politically, I just don’t want to be so involved in that mind space all the time.

It also feels very US-defaultism to put US memes here all the time. Sure, most people here are probably American, but not everyone is.

TheRaven,

What’s the difference between a religion and a cult?

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

My question was rhetorical, but I didn’t make it obvious. Most religions isolate their members, but it just depends how much.

My point is that most religions are culty, it’s just a matter of how much.

Sometimes it’s so hard to tell the difference that one must ask themselves whether there is one. Are religions just normalized cults?

[SUGGESTION] Sharing comment as an image (lemmy.ml)

Something I’ve been missing from the Apollo days is the comment sharing option. We were able to convert any thread into a picture for us to share anywhere. It was super handy ! Lemma, another quite nice app I’m using for the two screenshots, has this feature and I’d love to see it coming on Voyager. We could also, on...

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s cropped, and it only shows the comments you want to show instead of the many parent comments you don’t. Plus it includes the post details. The left and right images are very different.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

No problem! It’s something I didn’t realize I would use either until I used it all the time on Apollo.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

Ethics don’t make money. We don’t live in an ethics driven society.

TheRaven,
@TheRaven@lemmy.ca avatar

They used his voice in this episode. Maybe it was a clip of something he said when filming the prequels, but it’s definitely his voice. Maybe they’ll tease him at the end of the season.

Right. The reformation also spawned the protestant church. Joel Osteen doesn’t exactly embody the anti-indulgence church either. If the reformation had led people away from the church, it would have fixed it. Instead there are multiple sides, each one pointing at the other and saying “well, we’re not like them though”.

TheRaven,

Coming back to this thread to point out that my feelings definitely changed at Ahsoka Episode 5. I think my feelings toward the first 4 episodes will be even better because they lead to Episode 5.
