StThicket,

You question the distortion, but not the fact that there IS CARPET IN THE BATHROOM?!!!

StThicket,

Old people tend to say 2+90 while young people say 90+2. I heard that this new way of saying it was due to the introduction of the telephone, where people needed a more linear way of saying the numbers to reduce confusion. But I don’t have a source.

TIL In the Hot Coffee lawsuit against McDonalds, punitive damages were given due to McDonalds intentionally overheating coffee to save money on refills (www.poolelg.com)

During the trial it was revealed that McDonald’s knew that heating their coffee to this temperature would be dangerous, but they did it anyways because it would save them money. When you serve coffee that is too hot to drink, it will take much longer for a person to drink their coffee, which means that McDonald’s will not...

StThicket,

Damn, that was far worse than I could imagine. Poor woman

StThicket,

The problem isn’t the LED itself. The problem is engineers that read the datasheets where it shows which forward current they need. What they forget to think about is that the recommended forward current is for max brightness, so they slap whichever resistor they need, and never give it another thought.

Whenever I design a LED circuit that is only used as an indicator, I always make it 10% or less than recommended, because I do not need to burn away my retina when I test the boards.

StThicket,

I’m privileged to have a boss not caring where we work from, but i prefer to come into the office once in a while because of my social needs. It’s depressing to stay home day after day, but it’s more productive.

StThicket,

I’ve been an android fanboy since the beginning, but I’m actually considering iphone 15 as my next phone because of the usb-c.

StThicket,

I trying to say that not having a proper connector was a deal breaker for me. My Samsung also has one, but now I can consider iphones as well

Atheists, is there anything religious that sticks with you to this day?

I am Ganesh, an Indian atheist and I don’t eat beef. It’s not like that I have a religious reason to do that, but after all those years seeing cows as peaceful animals and playing and growing up with them in a village, I doubt if I ever will be able to eat beef. I wasn’t raised very religious, I didn’t go to temple...

StThicket,

Christmas is largely a pagan tradition that was turned into a christian tradition to make it easier to convert them to christianity.

The christmas tree is not a christian tradition. Santa is not a christian tradition. Nothing really is, except for Jesus allegedly being born on the exact date when the pagans celebrated “Jolablot” or the midwinter fest.

StThicket,

It makes more economic sense to improve the rails we already have, and build faster trains to run on the existing rails (like the TGV), than building completely new infrastructure.

StThicket,

GoGo Penguin is a jazzy trio from the UK that makes midern jazz that is really engaging. I’m really a progmetalhead, but this band is ficking epic.

Bersarin Quartett is another band that I love. It’s is a bit tough to get into, but it’s really rewarding if you like slowish dreamy complex music. All song titles are in German, but luckily there’s no lyrics.

StThicket,

I’m 42, and can drive manual, but I’ve had an automatic the last 5 years.

My son is now learning to drive, but he will most likely not need to drive a manual ever.

StThicket,

I have played this game more than I’d like to admit. It was difficult, but not impossible. Just an awesome game, and quite good for its time

StThicket,

I got some chineese chocolate from a colleague, and it was a plastic wrapped paper box wih 10 smaller boxes on the inside. These smaller boxes were an orb shaped chocolate wrapped in aluminium foil, wrapped in a small plastic bag.

StThicket,

I don’t think you can call it sex when it’s forced entry.

StThicket,

The reason for this could be that people who are smart enough to write something comprehensible is most likely not going to do so because of the risk of getting comments from brain dumping people. Social media has given everyone a megaphone - even the dumbest individuals. They keep pouring their stupidity onto the internet for everyone to see.

StThicket,

I used to work in a store selling electronics - like Best Buy (but a foreign distant cousin). It amazed me that so many people were technically challenged.

I always had to assume that the individual I was helping was an idiot, because I had been dumbfounded way to many times.

StThicket,

Ever hear of Daewoo Heavy Industries? They make excavators, railcars and ships

StThicket,

I love Lemmy. It’s just like reddit from when I joined in 2012. With Sync for Lemmy, it’s easy to use as well

StThicket,

I’ve sent emails over a 1200 baud modem line.

That’s 1.2k. You could literally see each character appear one by one on the screen.

StThicket,

Did you know that arachnids’ legs are hydraulicly controlled? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnid_locomotion

StThicket,

Damn, that’s depressing. But considering the pandas sensese of self preservation, it makes total sense.

StThicket,

I drove a Y for about 700 km this summer. It was OK.

I enjoyed driving an Audi E-tron much more. And my BMW i3 is a masterpiece as a daily city driver.

StThicket,

Fun fact. The word window actually comes from the norse word “vindauge” which means windeye.

StThicket,

Hello fellow Norseman

StThicket,

Yeah, well, I have to disagree with you on this one.

A few years after I met my wife, we had to sell her apartment so we could move to another city together for jobs. We tried to be cheap and sell the place ourselves to save money. We teamed up with a lawyer that specialised on selling real estates privately. We had a few viewings, but people were hesitant to bidding. We got a lot of questions about why we didn’t use an agent.

After a few weeks, we contacted a real estate agent, and sold the place after just one viewing for a better price even after paying the agent fee.

I think it is important to leave the job to professionals when selling thing with high risk and high value.

StThicket,

My main reason not to use iphone back in the days (10+ years ago) were the small screen sizes, and the lack of standard USB connection. Now that iphone 15 is rumored to have USB-C, I’m actually considering it.

The reason for considering it is because carplay is superior to android auto.

StThicket,

Not sure if this means good or great.

What's a 'dirty word' that you hate hearing when it's used to describe something or someone?

I hate the word ‘Consumer’ or I mockingly call it ‘CONSOOMER’. Because that’s to imply everyone in the world is just cattle, but with wallets. We’re no longer customers. We’re consumers now. And a consumer’s purpose is to consume shit, whatever is put out there. Got money? Shut up and consume, it’s what...

StThicket,

I love the phrase “This is not a crack house, it’s a crack HOME”

StThicket,

y’all need to stop buying ink printers from HP

FTFY

StThicket,

The whole issue here is that people fall for the trick of buying the cheapest printer available, that is clearly way cheaper than what it costs to build. Then people get cranky for having to buy these proprietary cartridges which are way overpriced to cover the cost of the printer.

The easiest solution is to buy a laser printer (unless you need photo finish on your prints). It’s a higher initial cost, but it never dries out. Would it cost me more that an ink printer in the long run? Maybe, but with my infrequent printing, i wouldn’t have to replace dried out cartridges every year.

StThicket,

Trump being on the ruzzian payroll is not a secret. He’s a puppet.

When he was elected (with the help of russia), he was brougt into a dark smoke filled room that smelled like sigarettes and cheap vodka, with a dosen men was sitting behind their desks. He couldn’t see any faces. No words said before Trump said: “what’s my agenda?”

StThicket,

The pattern is called Selburose and is a traditional pattern used in knitted mittens and sweaters from the area of Selbu located in Norway at the border to Sweden.

I thing #4 is by far the nicest flag

StThicket,

My autoreply whenever anyone asks “Do you work here” is: “No, I’m just employed”

StThicket,

There was this pizza store nearby that had insanely cheap pizza. It costed less than half of their competitors. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad. The price made me think it wasn’t a legitimate business.

StThicket,

Was this in North Korea by any chance? It sure sounds like it.
