Today (November 3) marks 45 years since Dominica adopted its flag. It is the only national flag using the color purple outside a coat of arms. (El Salvador and Nicaragua have purple in their CoA). (upload.wikimedia.org)

(Since you almost need a magnifying glass to see the small purple fields in the rainbows of the flags of El Salvador and Nicaragua, I think they barely count.)...

Today marks 55 years since Eswatini adopted its current flag on 5 October 1968. Based on official flags, it seems like a bright blue is standard, despite depictions often featuring dark blue. (files.catbox.moe)

There does not seem to be an officially defined shade of blue, but a bright blue is seen in for example these pictures of prime ministers:...

On this day, 26 September 1962, the Yemen Arab Republic was declared in North Yemen after a coup d'état. Its flag was a typical red-white-red Arab nationalist flag. (upload.wikimedia.org)

The flag is very similar to the flag of Syria and Iraq, which had similar Arab nationalist regimes. In fact, for a time, the three countries had flags with one, two and three stars respectively!...

Cambodia has been through a lot of political regimes during the 20th century. As a consequence, they have also been through a lot of flags, before finally adopting the current one, 30 years ago today. (images2.imgbox.com)

The presence of Angkor Wat has been remarkably stable across the various flags. It also makes the Cambodian flag on of the only four state flags to feature a building. The other are the flags of Portugal, San Marino and Spain....

The original winning design for the flag of Malaysia. IMO a nicer flag, without any inadvertent associations to Liberia and USA. (upload.wikimedia.org)

This flag won a nationwide poll in 1949, but some changes were made to it afterwards, leading to the Malaysian flag we know today. The reason for these changes seems somewhat unclear, more than that the politician Onn Jaafar suggested them....

Well, many of the flags of the Soviet Republics were basically the same as well. And of course many of the US state flags (SOB). The similarity might simply be due to laziness, but it is quite realistic as well.

Today it's 62 years since Trinidad and Tobago become independent and adopted this flag. (upload.wikimedia.org)

Notice that the diagonal stripe goes from the top left to the bottom right, unlike most other flags with a diagonal line (DRC, Namibia, Republic of Congo, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Solomon Islands, Tanzania). Brunei, however, also has the stripe in this direction....

Nice and well thought out flag! It ticks all boxes for a good design.

I think I prefer this to the most famous keystone proposal. Putting the keystones in the middle make them more clearly look like keystones, rather than just a strange middle field. Matching William Penn’s coat of arms is also a nice bonus.

Popular “keystone” proposal for reference:

Today is 32 years since Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union, August 24 1991. Back then, slightly different colors where used, and the ratio 1:2 (upload.wikimedia.org)

For comparison, this is the standard version that you see plenty of nowadays: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/49/Flag_of_Ukraine.svg/1280px-Flag_of_Ukraine.svg.png...

On this day, August 21, 1415, the North African city Ceuta was conquered by Portuguese forces. Nowadays the city is Spanish, but its flag still looks very much Portuguese. (upload.wikimedia.org)

The characteristic black-white gyronny is taken from the flag of Lisbon, but with the coat of arms of Ceuta in the middle (looking almost identical to that of Portugal). The addition of this coat of arms almost makes this Spanish city flag more Portuguese than the flags of Portuguese cities....

No idea why it’s a gif. I just linked to it from that webpage. It doesn’t display a play symbol in the browser. But it is a good call from you, showing why it’s better to avoid gifs for static image. Nevertheless, the position of the play symbol is quite pleasing.

Strange flag for a strange country. The whole story and the person D’Annunzio are quite unique and fascinating.

Today is the day of the Sámi flag. The flag is used by the Sámi people, an indigenous people living in the north of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. (upload.wikimedia.org)

The circle in the middle symbolizes the sun ad the moon (that’s why it is divided in two). The colors are those used in traditional Sámi clothing. Here’s an example of how the clothes could look:...

Glad to see this series here! I hope you keep posting!

Regarding the Cabinda flag, it seems to me that the color combination is not working too well. Maybe because its not very “vexillogical” colors? Yet, orange and blue are supposed to work well together, but maybe the yellow in between ruins the effect?
