Fulton County special grand jury recommended charges against Lindsey Graham and 2 Georgia US senators | CNN Politics (www.cnn.com)

The special grand jury in Fulton County investigating the 2020 presidential election in Georgia recommended charges against Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and former GOP Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, according to the special counsel grand jury report released Friday.

PeleSpirit,

I put this in the other thread but it’s good info so I thought I’d share it here too.

PeleSpirit,

My thoughts too, at least some of them had to be flippers.

PeleSpirit,

They’ve been here since I started here in June, just call it out and downvote. Report never worked on Reddit so I’m not in the habit but you could try it?

PeleSpirit,

I thought they could just tell by the code if they had a pop up or not and they just have to stay updated on how they keep changing the way they’re presented. I could be wrong though.

PeleSpirit,

So there’s like a Wikipedia crew of ad blocker contributors? I had no idea, that’s pretty cool. Thank you adblock crew.

PeleSpirit,

We live in strange times

A campaign was launched called the ‘Towel Movement’, which pledged to fight against the “abusive occupation” of the beaches.

In Costa del Sol, Spain, one hotel had a referee who would blow the whistle when beachgoers were allowed to start running to secure a spot.

PeleSpirit,

He explains why the carbon filters don’t work, how he mitigated the problem and he really suits up.

PeleSpirit,

Username checks out.

PeleSpirit,

So another traitor, we’re becoming too used to this.

PeleSpirit,

Being content or liking how you live didn’t seem to be asked. I think the rankings would look a little different if that was added to the mix.

How to be less racist/bigotred?

So I am a part of the LGBTQ community and work in a big city in middle europe. A lot of my coworkers are religios and have a foreign background. They are mostly very nationalist and homo-/transphobic. I hate them for their blind hate and bigotry, which wont change. I have realised, that I have become a bit bigotred towards...

PeleSpirit,

When you say “like them,” do you mean racist nationalists? You know the answer, a bully is a bully whether you know them or not.

PeleSpirit,

So the equal pay thing is a distraction again, you obviously have the same crap over there as we have over here.

PeleSpirit,

I don’t think that’s a bad thing that they get equal pay, they’re blaming it on that when it sounds like the poster I was speaking to said it was corruption, risky schemes and decades of underfunding by stealing it for other things that was the problem.

PeleSpirit,

Do you think having post tags would be helpful on Lemmy? Why or why not?

Yes, although the search is pretty great, it’s the scrolling down the list for certain communities that I want to go to that is a pain in the butt. Having tags like reddit where it seems like they’re categories but in reality are tags, is what would help with the situation because I can then hopefully search tags as well within the communities. It just adds another layer.

How should tags be displayed and integrated into Lemmy?

I like the idea of tags for the community and then tags for everyone to add within the community.

This is a dream request, but I would love it if you could save tags at the top like in RES old but for general stuff and/or actual communities. So like in Mastodon, you can subscribe to an entire category like “USnews” and every community and post with “USnews” would show up under that tag. I would press that tag and instant feed of that topic. People would block communities if they used it incorrectly or spammy.

On the top row you could also edit and save your top communities you go to, now I have to scroll through my subscriptions. So my top row as an example could say (should be able to edit it how it looks, this is just to show content): USnews (group tag) Politics.lemmyworld (specific community) WorldNews (group tag) Art( group tag) Reddit.Lemmworld (specific community) AskLemmy.lemmyworld (specific community)

PeleSpirit,

Yes, that’s correct The user defines them after they find them and puts them at the top (actually anywhere, lol) in my dream scenario. Tags with general links to communities would be a great way to find new ones too.

Wanting to move out of the US?

Hello, all! Longtime lurker on Reddit and now on Lemmy. I’ve tried looking into getting out of the US as things aren’t looking too great as I’m sure many of you know, but wanted some tips from those of us who have gotten out. Where did you decide to move to, and what were the things you looked at when deciding to move...

PeleSpirit,

Is this you Lucy from Seattle? Dude, you need to go on a retreat or something and take care of yourself if it is. I’m seriously saying this as someone who wants you to do well.

PeleSpirit,

Me too, he was mylucidnightmare on reddit that we all called Lucy. He kind of lost it in the last few years.

I know around 4 families who’ve moved to Mexico and have loved it, I’m pretty sure it’s a forever thing and they’re happy with it.

PeleSpirit,

Meanwhile, the Kremlin on Tuesday declined to comment on reports that the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, planned to travel to Russia this month to meet Vladimir Putin and discuss supplying Moscow with weapons for Ukraine.

You can’t feed your people but you can provide weapons to Russia?

PeleSpirit,

I’m going to take your response in good faith and tell you that it’s making fun of right wing people who are against critical race theory by using what is probably their own religion of Christianity to do it. To have Moses say what they’re doing and how ridiculous it sounds.

PeleSpirit,

Honestly, you may be right in that it serves right wing agendas but I have no idea since I’m not right wing. I do know they deserve to be made fun of regardless if they think it helps them or not. I feel that a lot of them are fascists, racists, trolls, etc. so it doesn’t really matter if we make fun of them because they’re pretty ingrained. I also don’t think it devalues CRT or makes anything normalized, we’re just making fun of hypocrites.

PeleSpirit,

I didn’t believe in miracles or curses until I saw a documentary on a sailor on a large sailboat trying to get away from a funnel cloud coming for him. Everywhere he would go, that thing would follow him. That dude was cursed for sure, at least temporarily.

PeleSpirit,

From my point of view, it was hilarious but he was definitely reacting the way you’re describing. He lived to show the video so idk?

PeleSpirit,

The good news here is that a lot of people don’t even know they’re landlords or are from another country. It’s not the rinky dink landlords we have to worry about, it’s the corporation landlords that are ruining everything.

PeleSpirit,

It’s not how they treat you but I’m glad you have a good one, it’s how they’re ruining the real estate market for people to purchase new homes. They buy all of the single family and rental properties for airBNBs or tear them down to build luxury only condos. Also, they’re not really luxury condos. Hopefully your city has anti slumlord laws as well.

PeleSpirit,

Here in Seattle, they were caught price fixing all of the rents as well. Basically, they all used one software that was supposed to tell you what others are charging so you could adjust your prices. Instead, they would all use it to raise the prices at the same time. It’s an evil industry.

PeleSpirit,

“Blah blah blah,” again? So you’re going to ignore that there is a shit ton of empty luxury homes and the price fixing? This isn’t my first rodeo, I’ve heard all of your arguments before and yes, they can be added into the mix but those aren’t the main focus.

  • Make it so airbnb’s can only be operated by an owner that lives on site and one other location and for 2 units total for that owner.
  • Corporations can only own a 20 unit (10-30, that number has to be researched) or more apartment building and then have to operate as a hotel if they’re running airbnbs. If condos or apartments, they have to provide all levels of income.
  • Condo or rental high rises being built can’t buy their way out of providing all income units.
  • No more price fixing or extreme legal consequences.

I have found that the people calling for just changing the zoning laws usually have a bulldozer right behind their shoulder waiting to be sent.

PS Trickle down housing doesn’t work. The end.

PeleSpirit,

the vast majority of new housing has been market rate

Hmmm, market rate is determined by price fixing so the people living there have to make more so they can live there and then the rent is price fixed up, and so on, and so on, and so on…

Raising taxes doesn’t help anyone in the short run since by the time it gets to being put towards something, it would probably be tax breaks for the tech companies. You’re right, I skimmed your comment because I knew what your goal was and you’d say anything to try and reach that goal; Build so there is money for investors, open the zoning laws all across the board so you can bulldoze and build more luxury apartments that families don’t want and the middle class and lower can’t afford. Trickle down housing takes 30 years to see results, all of your points are meaningless to me because you’re not operating in good faith.

PeleSpirit,

Again, trickled down housing will work for your grandchildren. Last comment.

PeleSpirit,

I love the show, it was really fun to watch.

Russian ambassador told Moscow that Kushner wanted secret communications channel with Kremlin (www.washingtonpost.com)

Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S....

PeleSpirit,

But officials said that it’s unclear what Kislyak would have had to gain by falsely characterizing his contacts with Kushner to Moscow, particularly at a time when the Kremlin still saw the prospect of dramatically improved relations with Trump.

The worst part about Lemmy is having to scroll past the same article dozens of times when browsing All.

How do I prevent this? Whenever an article gets popular it gets posted to the news community of every single instance so you have to scroll by it several times a day for a week. Is there a “prevent duplicates” option in any of the clients? I’m pretty close to abandoning lemmy honestly. There’s very little content that...

PeleSpirit,

You do need content and that’s what they’re doing. Be the change and post a few different articles a day since that’s what you’d like to see.

PeleSpirit,

Try “hot” every now and then. Also, go to another instance, every instance has different places that populate their front page “all.”

PeleSpirit,

The dude just had twins and just said he’s back updating it. I love liftoff.

PeleSpirit,

It honestly takes some of the fun out of it, I really thought there would be more cross-communication.

PeleSpirit,

But to have that choice would be great even though you personally don’t like it. I would switch to kbin if I didn’t already really like world.

Reddit users are reporting Christian websites for violating Virginia's new porn identification law, citing vulgar passages in the Bible (www.insider.com)

As more and more states pass laws targeting "pornographic material" in books and online, they are repeatedly running up against a problem: The Bible has not just a few passages that could be considered indecent

PeleSpirit,

Or the comments are empty sounding like bots. It was getting like that months before the API issues.

PeleSpirit,

Is Lemmy losing users or are people finding the one stable instance they like. I have 5 different accounts and I’m only on world for the most part now. It looks like 2 of them are lost users because I never sign in.

PeleSpirit,

They’re everywhere over reddit. They’re a bit here too, but not so bad it’s even an issue. Most of the bots here are to signal to someone to come harass or they upvote certain posts, so more benign.

PeleSpirit,

and said DeSantis had helped plan the trip.

lol

College students are still struggling with basic math. Professors blame the pandemic (apnews.com)

Colleges across the country are grappling with the same problem as academic setbacks from the pandemic follow students to campus. At many universities, engineering and biology majors are struggling to grasp fractions and exponents. More students are being placed into pre-college math, starting a semester or more behind for their...

PeleSpirit,

It could be long covid for some too, foggy brain probably wouldn’t help.

PeleSpirit,

He’s pinching her ass for sure.

PeleSpirit,

I can’t find the source anymore. You’re right, bought out was wrong, the guy who ran it or runs it. I would have to go down rabbit holes to find it. I know I trust Reuters over them and for awhile there was out right ignoring them. Non-profit doesn’t really mean anything BTW. It’s a start but not always in a good direction. I was wrong to say bought out.

PeleSpirit,

I don’t watch that, were they nervously defending themselves or confident in their choices?

PeleSpirit,

They do have a “for you” on the Mastodon app where they recommend people you might like BUT it’s hard to find and they don’t have the option to follow general hashtags like, “sportsnews” or something like that. Tusky is FOSS and does have the general hashtag follow but no “for you” section. Early stages and all.
