PeleSpirit,

Great job! Did you switch colors in the software so it would stop the white or did you just watch it and change the colors when it got to the trim?

The youngest generations are probably like the people of Easter Island when they were cutting down the last tree.

They know that it should be the opposite to save their island but the king and his court won’t listen to them. The king’s whole lineage cut down as much as they wanted, so he’s having a tantrum that it’s not working out the same for him. He’s doing it anyway. Entitlement can do that to a fellow.

PeleSpirit,

I agree that it would scale. If you think of it as oligarchs and corporate CEOs=kings, it tracks. It’s tough because the older generations have a lot of people trying to save the planet, but they have and had no power either. You can live like we’re doomed and do your part or live your best life and do your part. Maybe the younger generations will have the power to make change, I hope the older generations vote for the good ones.

PeleSpirit,

That doesn’t make it any better though, colonization is the same as kings being shitheads.

PeleSpirit, (edited )

I think it’s still valid though. Audubon made *certain kinds of birds go extinct because it was fun to shoot them. Humans are weird and selfish when they’re in power. Colonization is the same thing as a king cutting down the last tree, they wanted the resources.

PeleSpirit,

Damn, I thought I was going to be able to help you since I completely ditched adobe, but Lightroom was the only one I didn’t use.

PeleSpirit,
  • I use Affinity 2, it’s mostly better in a lot of ways and slightly worse in a couple. I still don’t know how to use personas and I’m not sure of what they’re for, even though I was told to use them in a training video, lol. I used it but it never stuck.
  • Affinity 2 for publisher and illustrator.
  • I use Krita for tablet painting.
  • I use Blender for all 3D, sculpting and special effects for video editing. I miss the 2D animation program tbh. It was so easy to use. So if anyone has any recs for that, I’d appreciate it.
  • I use DaVinci Resolve for all video editing. I would pay for that, it’s fantastic. I’m thankful that it’s free for small users though because I’m freelance and it can get really tight sometimes.

I’ve been using this flow for about 4 years so I’m not exactly sure what I’m missing. They did come out with a lot of new and innovative programs but it ended up not being worth it.

PeleSpirit,

Yeah, I’m on windows. I think it’s one or two dudes making the software too, I can imagine he’s being spread pretty thin.

PeleSpirit,

Restructuring sounds like a recipe for disaster. Couldn’t they just pay the people working on it now? Maybe that’s a dumb idea, but it seems like paying the people who are passionate about it and not gatekeeped out of the discussion is a good thing.

The SWICG had a meeting about restructuring

The Social Web Incubator Community Group (SWICG) had a meeting this week, and one of the items that was being discussed is the potential restructuring of the group. This is a fairly relevant and important discussion, but the meaning of this might need some context: the W3C is the main organisation that is responsible for internet standards, such as ActivityPub, but many others as well. They can start Working Groups, who can produce official recommendations for internet standards. Between 2014 and 2018, the Social Web Working Group worked on the standards that power the fediverse, and in 2018 the W3C officially published the ActivityPub standard as a recommendation. The Working Group, having completed their recommendation, spun down, and started the Social Web Incubator Community Group, which maintains and coordinates work on the Social Web standards.

The main relevant difference between a Working Group and a Community Group, is that a members of a Working Group need to be either part of a organisation that is a (paid) member of the W3C, or be invited in as an Independent Expert. A Community Group is open to everyone. A Working Group can publish updates to the official documents, while a Community Group can only publish errata and clarifications.

The basic tradeoff can be summarised as follows: people feel that the standards as they are currently published need updates and work. This is hard to do with the mandate of a CG. Rechartering a WG enables more updates to the standards and protocols. This comes at the cost of openness however, as anyone can join a CG, and the ability to join a WG is significantly limited. As typically the criteria for being a member of a WG is to either be an employee of a W3C member organisation, or to be invited in as an Independent Expert, this might give participating organisations and companies more influence than independent fediverse developers.

The discussion on this will continue on Friday 22th (1300 UTC) with the next meeting of the SWICG.

PeleSpirit,

Norman Pattis, a lawyer for Mr. Khan, said in an interview.

Just read the headline and you’ll see why Mr. Khan should be looked at pretty closely. He’s also the one that lost the largest settlement in history for Alex Jones. A good lawyer for good people, he is not.

huffpost.com/…/alex-jones-attorney-norm-pattis-n-…

PeleSpirit,

So, you don’t mind a racist lawyer who is also a really, really bad lawyer, he lost the biggest settlement ever.

PeleSpirit,

You do know that reputable, good lawyers don’t take shitty cases, right?

PeleSpirit,

I’m not on his jury, I’m a dude on the internet laughing that someone would hire Norm Pattis because it’s all he could get, lol. I’m pretty sure that’s allowed.

PeleSpirit,

This seems like bait for lefties to watch fox, please don’t do it unless it’s your job.

PeleSpirit,

That’s a great video, thanks for sharing. I like the idea of the dirt one, it seemed easy.

PeleSpirit,

Seriously, yikes. This is going to be very bad in the wrong hands. Cool concept though.

Researchers at the University of California, Santa Barbara, have developed a novel method for imaging objects beyond the line of sight, which they’ve named “Wiffract.” This technique leverages the interaction of Wi-Fi radio-frequency (RF) signals with the edges of objects that need to be imaged, guided by the principles of geometrical diffraction theory (GTD). With the appropriate mathematical model, Wiffract can produce remarkable outcomes, such as “reading” shapes and letters through walls.

The researchers explain that when an RF wave encounters an edge point, it generates a cone of outgoing rays known as a “Keller cone” in accordance with GTD. Wiffract’s mathematical model can capture the edges of stationary objects by utilizing GTD theory and the corresponding Keller cones. Once it identifies “high-confidence edge points,” Wiffract can reconstruct the shapes of objects while enhancing the resulting edge map further through advanced computer vision techniques.

PeleSpirit,

I don’t know if this is true. I know a kid that I consider an old soul and he will say something not only wise, but empathetic and sweet to someone when we’re just talking. Then he’ll fart in your face and giggle his ass off.

PeleSpirit,

The game developers affected by Unity’s new pricing model are striking back. A collective of developers across 19 companies, mostly based in Europe and mostly developing mobile games, has put out an open letter urging Unity to reverse course on its recently announced pricing model changes. The letter contains some of the same sentiments expressed by other developers this week but with one big twist.

“As a course of immediate action, our collective of game development companies is forced to turn off all IronSource and Unity Ads monetization across our projects until these changes are reconsidered,” the letter read.

New Vaccine Can Completely Reverse Autoimmune Diseases Like Multiple Sclerosis, Type 1 Diabetes, and Crohn’s Disease (scitechdaily.com)

Researchers from Pritzker Molecular Engineering, under the guidance of Prof. Jeffrey Hubbell, demonstrated that their compound can eliminate the autoimmune response linked to multiple sclerosis. Researchers at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) have developed

PeleSpirit,

Sort of, they did find a covid vaccine pretty quickly. I’m hoping this is part of that research.

PeleSpirit,

How long has this been in development?

PeleSpirit,

Wait, are inverse vaccines the same as mRNA? That’s what I was wondering about. Have the inverse vaccines been on the research agenda for awhile? As I said before, I’m hoping the mRNA breakthroughs help the reverse vaccines go quicker.

What about a new mixed-feed which merges the Subscribed, Local and All feed based on probabilities customable by the user e.g. 10/40/50 or 0/20/80? (lemmy.world)

This would push users toward local posts (especially on smaller instances) while still supporting a better distribution of user engagement over the threadiverse. And if you don’t trust that it was implemented correctly – you can simply check it by counting the amounts of posts against your chosen probabilities....

PeleSpirit,

The slider is a really cool idea, is that something they could actually build?

PeleSpirit,

Idk, I kind of believe it. When I go back there through a search, there are tons of deleted users and comments and everything feels stale or maybe bots.

Most major subreddits show a decrease of between 50 and 90 percent in average daily posts and comments, when compared to a year ago.

We need a new Explore-Feed (similar to Mastodon), which consolidates the All- and Local-Feed (lemmy.world)

The All-Feed is very important to increase the content-quality of the threadiverse and therefore, ensure its existense. However, for smaller instances, there is only limited reason to put the All-Feed prominent in their UI, because their posts will never be present there. However, if they push people toward their the Local-Feed...

PeleSpirit,

I’m on a small instance and it has local as it’s top page and then all as an option. I find the communities already subscribed to show up in all for me, I just have to be signed in. I’m pretty sure this is how all is already set up for all of the instances. Correct me if I’m wrong though, maybe I just got lucky with my small instance.

PeleSpirit,

CEO salaries is my bet.

PeleSpirit,

Even if your calculations are correct (did you include bonuses?), one CEO that may or may not have been cherry picked, doesn’t represent all CEOs. If you spend all your money on CEO salaries, bonuses, buildings, etc., it looks like you’re not making any money to the tax man.

PeleSpirit,

Good point fr, I forgot about buybacks.

PeleSpirit,

They might be talking about instances that have been defederated from each other?

PeleSpirit,

Stride looks great, thanks for the link.

PeleSpirit,

He’s the billionaire that no one will look into his eyes because they don’t respect him. Even his staff.

PeleSpirit,

Same here.

PeleSpirit,

They pissed off the mods who are a lot of the content. It makes sense that the creators left for other sites.

PeleSpirit,

True for that too, I think it’s a combo of people that left but it was the best of reddit. Not all of the best ones left, especially the smaller communities, but I think it’s noticeable when I lurk around once a week. I try to check the feel of it.

In a conversation with Mike Solan, the head of the Seattle Police Officers’ Guild, Seattle Police Department officer and SPOG vice president Daniel Auderer minimized the killing of 23-year-old student Jaahnavi Kandula by police officer Kevin Dave and joked that she had “limited value” as a “regular person” who was only...

Google goes to trial in biggest US challenge to tech power in decades (www.theguardian.com)

The justice department has accused Google of using its market power to unfairly lock out rivals and position itself as a gatekeeper of the web. The case marks the first brought by the government against Google to go to trial. The justice department has also joined a separate case against Google brought by the attorneys general...

including key arguments that Google’s exclusive contracts with phone manufacturers allegedly harmed competitors.

PeleSpirit,

I’ve said this before, but I also have 5 or 6 accounts and I only use 2 now. The other ones are counted as lost users.

PeleSpirit,

Are there other games communities to try out that are popular?

PeleSpirit,

I think it’s bots or trolls because what I’ve seen downvoted has been on topic, friendly conversations and had been just posted. There would be no reason to downvote a lot of the comments downvoted.

PeleSpirit,

It was like that on reddit too. Hell, Seattle alone had around 8 subreddits.

PeleSpirit,

But it didn’t sustain them all and some of them faltered. It’s the exact same situation imo.

PeleSpirit,

This is exactly what I was hoping for, you wouldn’t need a multi-reddit and it’s implemented smoothly. This post shows exactly why I was hoping for it. I usually have to go directly to Fediverse to see anything and I didn’t think there would be a follow up so fast, so I didn’t go directly to it. Meaning, that’s why I’m 4 days late to this post. If I had my own user tags, I would put this community under “favorites” and check it way more often for new posts. Even if it doesn’t get implemented, I appreciate you guys considering it.

Anyone even unprivileged users could have the ability to tag any user, post, community or instance. It would be a different set of tags visible only to themselves. The content shown when visiting those tags would be the same as the ones for everyone else.

User specific community tags. Each user has a completely different set of tags, visible only to themselves, that they can create and apply to communities. When a user visits those tags they see the posts from all the communities with that tag. The content shown when visiting those tags would be different as the ones for everyone else.

Consider replacing communities with tags - lobste.rs style. Would eliminate cross-posting and reduce duplication. Could increase participation and improve cross-instance content preservation.

I like the term “bad decisions bagel” and I think I’m using it from now on. They put yummy flavors in them, have people I think are awesome selling them and great packaging, why wouldn’t I eat the bad decisions bagel.

PeleSpirit,

He helped a country we have sanctions against.

PeleSpirit,

He was paid for a service and he turned it off, that’s way different than “helping more”. Don’t be a Musk apologist, he’s got billions to go to that cause.

PeleSpirit,

No, Putin did. Elon is just an accessory.

PeleSpirit,

Are you saying it doesn’t meet the definition or he can’t be tried for it. I’m assuming you’re not a lawyer but this is the definition. Elon’s actions=treason. Treason is the crime of attacking a state authority to which one owes allegiance.[1] This typically includes acts such as participating in a war against one’s native country, attempting to overthrow its government, spying on its military, its diplomats, or its secret services for a hostile and foreign power, or attempting to kill its head of state. A person who commits treason is known in law as a traitor.[2]

Fulton County special grand jury recommended charges against Lindsey Graham and 2 Georgia US senators | CNN Politics (www.cnn.com)

The special grand jury in Fulton County investigating the 2020 presidential election in Georgia recommended charges against Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and former GOP Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, according to the special counsel grand jury report released Friday.

PeleSpirit,

The grand jury in Georgia was asked to vote on whether or not the names listed should be indicted. The middle is the yes, no, and, I think abstain count, but I’m not positive. The last column was whether they were indicted or not. There was one name that I didn’t see listed in the indictment but was indicted.
