Muffi,

Trig is honestly the math I’ve used the most since finishing school. But to be fair, that is mostly because it’s useful as hell when doing game development as a hobby.

Muffi,

I think Addy Valentine is the most underappreciated YouTuber when compared to his production quality.

Less than 4k subscribers, but without a doubt the highest quality videos in the entire Game Developer section of YouTube.

Muffi,

This is definitely not true. Rooster Teeth has been producing some of their all-time best content since covid (speaking as fan since 2012). They just pivoted to primarily making podcasts, and most of their podcasts are awesome and high-production quality without feeling inauthentic. F**KFACE and ANMA are especially good for old fans.

Muffi,

“sociopathic capitalism” is a bit pleonastic

Muffi,

I really hope that Villeneuve will get the chance to turn all the books into movies. He gets the vibe of Dune, and the last two books would make for some epic films on the big screen. But to get those made, Villeneuve would first have to do the impossible and somehow turn God Emperor into a movie that wouldn’t tank the franchise.

Muffi,

Uuuhh, I like the idea of a limited series. Maybe a >!new Duncan!< as the main character each episode.

Muffi,

Hemingway: “hold my shotgun”

Muffi,

Dying industries have long deathrattles. Sometimes it’s more merciful and environmental to kill then before “the economy” is ready.

Muffi,

Nah, it’s going to cause cardiac arrest after about 8 seconds

Muffi,

I once got called an “Ass-born Quasimodo” after beating somebody twice in a row in Hearthstone.

Muffi,

Partnership and trust. The feeling that someone makes you want to become a better person, and you can trust them to help you with that journey.

Muffi,

Epic Games launcher/store is nothing more than Tencent spyware using “free games” as bait and masquerading as a Steam competitor.

Muffi,

I work with teenagers with autism. I have tried so hard to understand Undertale, because they all love it so so much. I even used to stream me playing it so my students could tag along. I want to get it, but I just don’t.

If anyone can explain me the appeal (better than my students did) I would appreciate it greatly.

Muffi,

There are still great places on the Internet, you just have to seek them out. It’s the ones that are spoon-fed to you by the corporations that are soulless, adfilled shitlands.

Muffi,

Maybe we don’t need 4K 60FPS video to show Mr. Beast giving away more crap. Just because we can up the quality, doesn’t mean we should. Or maybe client-side real-time AI upscaling will make this a non-issue.

Muffi,

They bring the incest, of course

Muffi,

Why is this thread full of carbrained douchebags rationalizing their planet-killers?

Muffi,

Missing the target by a distance roughly equal to the combined diameter of all planets in our solar system would be very on brand for Russian tech.

Muffi,

That is why there is an Archive link, if you actually bothered to read the post before commenting.

Muffi,

Seems like the next album will be a concept album like Spirit World Field Guide, but about technology instead of spirits and afterlife. Very excited for this. Aes is a powerful cat!

Muffi,

I’m still waiting for them to re-add a scrollbar for the mobile app podcast pages. Reported its disappearance multiple times the last two years, and just get empty answers from Spotify. Relistening to old podcasts is a pain, when having to scroll through hundreds of episodes without a quick scrollbar.

Muffi, (edited )

Imagine an average day in his life. Getting constantly approached by fans who want to take a picture or get an autograph, because of something he might not even remember having done. Must be so fucking weird for him. I really hope people are respectful of him and his family.

Muffi,

I second this! Very fun and enjoyable, but definitely more of a roguelike than an RPG.

Muffi,

Indie games have never been better. So much good stuff is coming out all the time, and there are some fantastic experiences to be had. You just have to ignore the big releases, that were pressured to put out unfinished games too early by investors.

Muffi,

Blender, FreeCAD and Godot! Amazing pieces of software, that I can’t wait to see what develop into.

Muffi,

Even greener if the murderer in the car gets thrown in jail!

Muffi,

Microsoft wouldn’t run Nintendo. They buy shit up and let it die a slow death… Poor old Skype, Minecraft and Nokia can testify among many other.

Muffi,

Control. And that is a scary thing to lose if you’re a bad manager.

Muffi,

If you like that kind of stuff, check out The Sapling, which is being developed and devlogged by this cool nerdy dude who I think is dutch.

The game is like an “eco dwarf-fortress” evolution simulator, and it’s been amazing to follow the development of.

Muffi,

… since I heard this song!

Muffi,

I spent the last 10 hours trying to learning Godot, and I love it! Seems like a mix of the best things from Unity and Blender.

Muffi,

Just talk to the person, and ask nicely for them to either put on a headset or watch without sound? Usually works for me

Muffi,

recordscreen.io is also great, if you want to record directly from the browser.

Muffi,

Sound like you need to practice with some Flexbox Defense

Muffi,

Well, guess it’s time to learn Godot.

Muffi,

Software Engineering. Most software is basically just houses of cards, developed quickly and not maintained properly (to save money ofc). We will see some serious software collapses within our lifetime.

Muffi,

Read the SciFi trilogy starting with The Three-Body Problem. Deals with this exact thought/concept in an interesting way.

Muffi,

I studied engineering. Most classes were split into 2 hours of theory, followed by 2 hours of practical assignments. Both within the official class hours, so teachers could assist with the assignments. The best college-class structure by far imo.

Muffi,

About 70 percentage points better than my doctor. Nice!

Perl still relevant in 2023/24?

hi, i was interested if perl is still relevant in this day and age. Perl has been on the decline for a very long time now. Perl 6 (now named 'raku) not being backwards compatible with perl 5 code made the already small perl community even smaller by splitting it in half. A good example is lisp with it’s thousands of different...

Muffi,

Even if you’re writing JavaScript, you should be using proper indentation. What an odd thing to keep you from learning it.

Muffi,

Pushbullet works great for exactly this

What’s the Bare Minimum Number of People for a Mars Habitat? (www.universetoday.com)

A recent preprint paper examines the minimum number of people required to maintain a feasible settlement on Mars while accounting for psychological and behavioral factors, specifically in emergency situations. This study was conducted by a team of data scientists from George Mason University and holds the potential to help...

Muffi,

No Mars colony without a Coyote

Muffi,

A cool little mechanical scoop-thing, which is perfect for making falafels. Cost me <2€ and it’s awesome. Perfect size and shape and most importantly super easy to clean.

Muffi,

A lot of it is only cost-cutting disguised as innovation though. Some jobs, like accounting, doesn’t really suffer from removing the human element, but compare that to the chatbot hellscape that customer service has become. We need to be VERY conscious of what we “innovate” and guide the development with taxation and laws.

Muffi,

I think every country has people with a personality-vacuum that they’ve filled with a job. But in my anecdotal, personal experience, Americans tend to do it far more often (they also work WAY more).

Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?

I’ve noticed in the Linux community whenever someone asks for a recommendation on a laptop that runs Linux the answer is always “Get a Thinkpad” yet Lenovo doesn’t seem to be a big Linux contributor or ally. There’s also at least six Linux/FOSS-oriented computer manufacturers now:...

Muffi,

Spare parts and resilience. Thinkpads are the most tanky laptops available.
