xilliah,

Well if anybody read my previous comment, I had a date a few weeks ago and scored an apartment. She allowed me to move in earlier, before she moved out. So we’re roommates now! And it’s a studio apartment so ya she’s an angel. Of course I immediately started doing all the chores and trying my best to cook the best meal for her.

To be honest I’m sad that she’s looking for a new place. I wouldn’t mind living with her. In fact I think I would really like it. It’s like we just click.

Anyway I woke up with the same smile I went to bed with. I was technically homeless and living in my office. It was damn cold. I am talking 13 degrees if you set the heating to 1000 euro a month, because electricity and war.

We used to heat it with wood and that was like 350 a month, but at least it was warm. It’s not allowed any more.

Well I’m just glad things are more stable now. It’s too much to explain but it was really bad. Now I can take care of the stuff that’s urgent and then hopefully I’ll be bored for a while. Then I’ll continue with my life work!

xilliah,

Hey what’s the bandaid on the turtle for?

xilliah,

Well I’ve had a smartphone since 2012, just to try it. Honestly I don’t feel it has added quality to my life. Having specialized devices such as a camera, GPS, mp3 player and so on is actually more convenient and not more expensive. For example a GPS has a longer and more reliable battery life.

xilliah,

No at some point they become uselessly slow or won’t receive necessary updates. Like even some dumb chat app requires a ton of resources. And I’ve also had an iPhone that worked just fine until there was an update. After that it wasn’t practical to use any more and I switched back to android.

I’ve had 4. And I’ve used each one until it was completely useless.

I bought 2 of those 4 for my work. I do vr/ar and some clients require ar on the phone or tablet. And I needed one of them when I had an Airbnb, because you need the app for that. The again you can replace that with android running on a pi or sum.

xilliah,

Omg remember riding home reading the manuals and your fantasy going wild?

xilliah,

I’m sorry. How is your day?

xilliah,

Don’t you have any dreams?

xilliah,

What did you do on there besides visit the warp center.

xilliah,

😞

xilliah,

What did you two do?

xilliah,

Check out It Follows.

xilliah,

Wow sounds like a fun party. Next time I’ll have to try chewing on toys too!

xilliah,

Wow what planet are you from?

xilliah,

What did you mean exactly with what CRTs represent? They just make me think of that electron gun thing and their weight and never fitting on a desk.

And about those 3d malls, can you tell me anything more about that fantasy? Did you mean you could buy physical products there or only digital?

xilliah,

Omg! Hope it has some funky tunes again

xilliah,
xilliah,

Have you ever tried second life?

xilliah,

Youth is wasted on the young

xilliah,

The water here in the Netherlands has been way too high for weeks now, and we’ve had some crazy ass storms. Even a cyclone or something? I don’t even know what it’s called.

Anyway it’s going to require some crazy engineering if the Netherlands is to move into the 22nd century.

xilliah,

Those machines are just plain rude and noisy.

xilliah,

What happened?

xilliah,

Do you have someone to talk to?

xilliah,

Are you into strange new worlds?

Ya that thing about TV being a ritual is something I heard before from someone. Interesting perspective.

xilliah,

I came back to the nl 2 years ago. I was really surprised! A lot of people complain or suddenly have angry outbursts, even though I have never met that person before. It’s very rude to me and I prefer to have more casual conversations with strangers. It’s like some people are all up in arms about something.

Like OK building a nuclear reactor? Fuck do I know. I have no opinion on the matter. Just do whatever works best. Every solution has its problems and I never read even a single book on it so what would I know. All I know is that electricity prices need attention.

And what you mentioned about people openly being racist and nationalist. It’s awkward to me. I mean they receive social support and their kids go on holidays in Thailand and Aruba multiple times a year, without even having a job in their 30s. Sure there are plenty of issues surrounding migration but it’s an oversimplification and counterproductive, besides simply being unethical, to think that getting rid of a minority is going to solve anything. It just seems like lazy problem solving to me.

And it’s awkward because what are they protecting? If we are protecting Dutch culture, ok I can get on board with that. But what is it? For me the most Dutch thing is tolerance and openness, and being progressive. I think many people worldwide would recognize that as Dutch core values. So it’s just weird to destroy that by trying to protect it.

xilliah,

It’s awesome that you did that. Would be cool if medicine could fix that for you one day. Did you know there’s loads of walking videos online? Also for vr. And there’s games.

xilliah,

Daytona racing looks ace! And waiting for fish and chips while picking 5 movies, jeez that’s the cheese!

xilliah,

Are you seriously leaving us hanging with ‘other excellent skills’?

xilliah,

The what?

xilliah,

Oh my lawd

xilliah,

What about the far future?

xilliah,

For just 1 dollar I’ll give you a satisfactory reply. Make it 2 and it’ll be a kind one too. Have a nice day :)))

xilliah,

I feel our society is built upside down. If someone is strong we give them stuff and if someone is weak we leave them to their fate. It’s more nuanced than that of course, but you know exactly what I mean.

I believe if someone is strong they should take care of the ones who need that extra bit of support. Frankly if this civilization is wiped off the earth by climate change it’ll be for the better.

xilliah,

Hey, what kind of movies do you like? Who worked on those movies and what other stuff did they make?

Also it helps to find a critic you like. For example I liked Roger Ebert and when he recommended something I knew would most likely enjoy it.

It also helps a lot to simply talk to people about movies. There might already be someone in your life who has a similar taste!

xilliah,

Since the start I’ve said that if I get stabbed I’ll be happy to die as myself.

I’m from a conservative countryside area in the Netherlands. I’ve heard terrible things from others but for me I’ve had endless support from people. Lots of love and care and often I have to stop people to tell them that I’m alright and that my experience offers way more positives than negatives.

The only people I’ve had real issues with weren’t from the Netherlands, and it’s exclusively young men who are clearly frustrated with life. Each time I’ve laughed with them and if it escalates I grab Google translate to tell them they are making fools of themselves. Works like a charm. But I seem to be lucky in this regard, as I have heard some terrible stories from others.

I’ve also decided to become smart and look up the law, and I’ve called the police to get some info. Apparently I’m allowed to record the situation if I feel threatened, but not allowed to share it publicly. Even a simple threat can mean jail time or other consequences.

So ya I can recommend doing the same. Try to get smart about your legal situation and see what leverage you do and don’t have, so it is clear before anything happens.

Maybe my situation sounds rosy but honestly I am homeless and lost some important family contacts. I’m living in my office and I’m cold to the bone. Financially it is impossible to make things work. Due to unannounced construction work on my office I might lose my client and I had to sleep in 3 degrees. I’ve been misdiagnosed quite a bit and I’m afraid to find support. But you know I’m an optimist. The sunrise is still there and so are the stars. I saw a cute kid and a young dog ran up to me. I like writing poetry and making photos. I’d share one but Lemmy is a buggy gal.

To be frank if someone ever decides to get violent with me I just don’t think it’s such a huge deal compared to all the other crap haha.

xilliah,

Thanks. This apartment fell from heaven just last week. During a date of all things! I hope to move in early January already.

So I’m curious what happened to you?

xilliah,

The other day I was trying to get an empty vr project to run in unity. After half a day I just gave up. There’s just so many options and packages and license agreements. I’m gonna switch to Godot and Steam index. Even if it’s a lot of work I know I can share it with others.

xilliah,

Had a date last night. Told my friend that if my date wouldn’t be a flat earther or think that toothpaste is poison or some such that my standards would be met. That is to say that I’ve had plenty such experiences.

Smoked a joint. Ate the best Indian food I ever had. Went for a walk and…

Well I ended up renting her apartment in a month from now. So I don’t mean to toot my own horn but I consider that a fruitful date.

Also what’s the female version of even Steve?

xilliah,

An even steven is someone who has strong bad and good luck, so in the end it is balanced and even.

xilliah,

Why do you feel like a jerk? That’s genius!

xilliah,

The date was awesome too!

I use linux for the same reason I wear fuzzy socks and sweaters

My understanding of the history of fashion is that back in the 1950s America it was expected that you wore a suit/dress at work unless you had a different uniform. There were a bunch of very boring people who thought that we should be wearing office job garb all the time, because they wore suits so much it was their default...
