Why Is No One Having A Good Sad Time? I Specifically Requested It.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Basically have to import something due to the silly laws around new trucks. Kei trucks (the cool one in the picture) now cost a lot but are great.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

The march towards deathproofing at any expense (like vision and crash reduction) and also cheap styling involving a lot of plastic (it cheap).

25% is really high. I doubt most of these ever see another ass.

You came to a community called “Fuck Cars” and your take away is they are too negative about, cars? Did you think this was “Fuck Cars Sensually”?

M0oP0o,

We really need a “Fuck cars sensually” made

With the right lift kit even adults are not safe.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Please show us a kei truck with less fuel economy then any truck sold in the US in the last lets say 15 years. Hell you can even remove the exhaust altogether and you will be lucky to get a truck double the fuel need of any of those “mini-trucks” as you call them.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

After many years of driving different cars/trucks/other I want to know why at some point in the year 2000 decided that vision out of a moving vehicle was secondary to swoopy body lines. Get in something from the 60’s and you can see amazing (even in a boat of a car) yet by 2006 you can not see shit. for example:

Thanks for providing some info, sadly the 29mpg on the hybrid is not the norm or good (had to convert it to 8.1l/100kms like a normal person) it looks like your buddy is doing some great mileage compared to say the info from https://www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/silverado_1500/2011?engineconfig_id=&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=62. As for the fuel use of a kei truck, I have only seen those sort of numbers on high speed highway driving as they are just not geared for it. I would love to be able to by a smaller truck, or even a new version of an older one. The issue is we are not given many options other then a kei truck designed for the urban focused Japanese market or a stupid massive van with a 4 foot bed.

@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

For a load-bearing vehicle it absolutely is. And I showed that it compared favorably to these minitrucks. This whole thread is about comparing trucks to trucks. If you need to carry shit, you are hurting the environment if you buy a mini-truck over a Silverado or F150.

It does not show that, it showed almost nothing other then your one truck gets middling gas mileage and then you said people on a minitruck forum say they don’t haul stuff. There was as far as I can see no comparison of load to load capacity, avg fuel economy or anything other then you like your buddies 2021 silverado.

Well, 10 years goes a long way. You literally picked a 2011 Silverado. Perhaps look at 2023 numbers on the same site?

your link lists MPG of 21.82 for 2023, that is almost 1/3 worse then your friend.

As for Kei, as I said it’s hard to get a fair chance when the only places nearby sell heavily-used older vehicles. Gas mileage has largely skyrocketed of late because Auto manufacturers are getting scared.

But ultimately, If you have any truck and don’t need its carrying ability, you’re an asshole. I think the case of a japanese mini-truck being the “best choice” is ultimately too rare to hold your breath for.

A step further, the REAL sad truth is that most minitrucks aren’t even legal in the US without being modified to a max speed of 25mph because they don’t meet safety and emission standards for road vehicles. That’s why so many around here are old. Before 1998, they’re grandfathered in and people in other countries that don’t grandfather old vehicles are offloading them.

Do we really want to be cheering on unsafe high-emission vehicles as the “cure” to the F150?

The legal issues are a issue not because these are unsafe or high-emission (they are not). They are a major issue because the auto industry has fed you that tripe and like a lot of US consumers you bought it. These are not good on gas, they have convinced people that 29mpg in a hybrid that costs as much as a house is good.

I like many other people do have the occasional need for a truck, and in no world would you catch me in anything made in north America for the last 20 years. Like many other people I had to buy a very old truck (carberated v8 that gets 14ish mpg btw) and it sits by my barn until it is needed. The “cure” to the f150 is just the option to buy a old f150 or any other truck not made into a 5 seat van like monstrosity. I would love to have the option to buy a new truck that was small, be it a kei or a domestic. But I don’t.

@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

The way a referendum works is that the side with more votes gets to do the thing, in this case brexit. How you voted does not matter as the majority of your countries population (who voted) voted to leave. You don’t get to “I voted for Kodos” this 7 years later.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Not sure where you get vitriol and the idea anything is fair. I am also not extra happy Scotland did not leave the UK but as there was a vote (just 2 years too soon) and last time I checked things still work that way so I like most people have to live with it.

Hold a referendum on the issue then again (I am sure it will also be a mess). Its insane that people now think you can somehow ignore a majority vote because you don’t like the result. Was this a bad idea? yes. Is the UK filled with “a bunch of idiot yokels and old people”? also yes.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

It was barely a majority vote and anyway it wasn’t legally binding so the government could have totally ignored it

The problem is the morons held the vote then decided to uphold the decision of the vote

Do you see the problem with this approach?

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

More referendums is the way to go.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yeah, I remember the people being interviewed on the street saying they where remainers and also they where not planing to vote. It was a silly time.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Never said otherwise. But retroactively arguing the issue without a new referendum is an issue.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

sometimes this works out well though. I like when I get say black sailor moon:

https://mander.xyz/pictrs/image/5f770b32-d0ef-44db-8418-fec4748d5974.jpeg

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

That would be a reason to scream…

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

The sad part is I did not see this a joke at first. I can walk out to the street right now and there are at least two trucks that I can stand in front of and be eye level with the hood.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

The new hood height war is here and very silly. I have seen a few grown men dangle their legs out of the side of a modern “truck” just to reach the place needed to boost these things. Oh on a side note, did you know almost all new vehicles will drain their battery while not in use?

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

The part you seem to be misunderstanding is that by stopping people at “a young age” you would be targeting non-voters. You are taking rights away from a future generation while protecting the current voting adults to have that same right. Even if that right is to slowly kill yourself while costing the tax payer, you are still being a coward and honestly a bit authoritarian by literally using a part of the population that has no voice instead of a full ban.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Oh nice, so people are spending $30,000 min on any new car AND it will record and pass on everything you do in it? Oh and depending on the car manufacturer you may have to pay a subscription for remote entry and heated seats. Its almost as if you are paying for something that you don’t control, don’t own and now works directly to steal information from you. Cool. Cool.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yes and you paid for that “smart” screen, and anyway does this stop the car from sending anything? No?

You sure showed them, by not using the stuff you paid them for. Yeap.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

You know this is about all cars right? Your diesel will also do this if new enough.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Oh, if it is old enough you should run it on old cooking oil. Knew someone that had an old diesel rabbit who was all into alternative fuels and ran it on leftover oil from a fryer, smelled like french fries.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yes, clearly I am being an asshole for not defending the automakers.

Dozens of health organizations pledge ‘full support’ for federal ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars (www.cnn.com)

Eighty national public health groups, including the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Preventative Medicine, placed a full-page ad in Sunday’s edition of the Washington Post in support of a federal ban on menthol in cigarettes and all...

M0oP0o, (edited )
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Urgh, when they banned them in my country it was with this same stupid logic.

Now I don’t smoke (quit 15ish years ago) but this idea that anything flavoured somehow MUST be for the purpose of marketing towards children is insane. It manages to be wrong in two opposite ways:

One: This implies that anything with flavor is not for adults and everyone over the age of majority goes home to enjoy our grey flavourless mush.

Two: This implies that the flavors involved must be what appeals most to children. You know those menthol and whisky tipped smokes that all the children go nuts for.

This logic falls apart (both ways) when you look at any other legal market like booze, weed or vape.

It is almost as if after the US lost the war on drugs they want to try again on a smaller scale.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yeah, so why would they ban flavors and not nicotine? It seems that would be the play if they wanted to stop smoking (and start some riots).

M0oP0o, (edited )
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Does it? I have not been convinced. Also by that logic why should other not healthy things be flavoured? Why can you buy flavoured malt liquor, weed gummies, vapes or edible panties? With this same logic junk food should taste like sadness and regret for the future health of the children (won’t someone think of the children).

How this does not come off as ludicrous to anyone makes me question my own sanity. If smoking was such an issue and potential future addiction had to be stopped, banning the nicotine (you know the addictive) makes more sense then allowing the sale of the same addictive product as long as it does not taste minty.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Oh and I don’t think they should give up legal things they do anyway. The issue is they don’t do the thing that could address this because it is not a good idea and punishes people, but then in the same breath turn around and do the thing that will NOT address the issue AND is also a bad idea that punishes people (Just not their people).

The biggest pain point of windows 8 (on release) was the missing start button, why would they think a bingilator would work instead?

Don’t worry I am sure they will fix all this madness for Windows 9.

McDonald's prices are out of control. (cdn.masto.host)

Gee, it’s almost like corporations are gouging consumers so badly that their market advantages are being lost due to greed. Inflation this quickly isnt real. It’s what happens when you come off a global pandemic with millions dead and corporations see they can freely abuse you by exploiting the public zeitgeist that prices...

M0oP0o,

Well looking at how much the price of all staples in the grocery store has gone up in the last decade, I would say it is neither now.

Junk is still cheap though…

That’s the neat part. They don’t! (start families or buy houses)

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

I don’t know why you are thinking I like or support the f150 or a (urgh) “crossover” and don’t think it has the same issues. All new trucks are terrible and this does not make this good no matter how you compare. I want more truck like cars not car like trucks. I am sick of being gaslit about fuel economy, size and performance.

As far as “useful as a truck goes” its a 5ish foot bed, if you are talking about anything other then a kei truck then its another stupid useless truck that people will just keep excusing and rationalizing themselves into.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yes, as has been pointed out buying an Odyssey would have been better, not that the Odyssey is good (also hate the enbiggening of minivans). I think people buying ridgelines are driving them empty and without passagers (like almost all trucks in north america), but are trying to justify having a truck. This thing is basically the “just the tip” of trucks.

If you have use of a truck bed, you likely are not buying this. If you think you would like the option of a truck bed then you are likely buying this.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yes they all look and are functionally silly.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Comparing apples to apples, since the price of the Ridgeline here is $50k the maverick starts at $34,795 here, and the hybrid starts at $35,295 according to the ford website.

Still a lot better on both price and fuel (if true), but the four doors, huge size (about the same as the ridgeline) and short (4.5 foot) bed still make me sad. If they had a two door long bed version it would be cool though.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

$54,096.25 for the Odyssey here, and that is kinda insane.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Most drivers in north america drive alone (76% https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-01-22/how-americans-commute-to-work-in-maps) The idea that the standard vehicle should be a large truck seems insane. That Hilux might be a terrible choice for commuting but its looking more and more sensible then these bloated excused phobia of vans, cars, or bikes.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Can you call it a shed if it has a minisplit? If that is a heat pump model then it makes my house look like a Trash-Co waste disposal unit.
