Jumuta,

bowwwwwn bown bowwwwwn

jesse its time to cook

Jumuta,

eh, sota yes, but past “government” space projects were mostly done by Boeing, Lockheed, Aerojet, etc anyway so the current wave of privatisation is making it mostly better by improving competition.

I have my opinions on blue origin but at least new companies like SpaceX are doing innovative things in contrast to old companies like Boeing that just sit around doing nothing, exploiting cost plus contracting

Jumuta,

you have TLP configured?

Jumuta,

♥️ KDE default apps ♥️

Dolphin, Konsole, Okular, Skanpage are so nice and I wouldn’t be able to live without them. They feel so polished and solid, and somehow manage to have all the features I want without feeling cluttered

What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

Jumuta,

Debian based distros can be very different from each other. Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!, etc are all based off debian. I think what the commenter you’re replying to is saying is to install the stock debian image, because that’s the lightest version of debian.

Jumuta,

idk, your disk might be corrupted

did you do anything bootloader or disk related before this?

Jumuta,

ThinkPads with 4:3 displays ♥️

    Jumuta,

i don’t care about tesla in particular but I hate how EV corpos keep marketing them as environmentally friendly when they are absolutely not

    Jumuta,

what’s the difference between a consumer os and an industrial os in your opinion? I personally really like how linux works on the desktop

    Jumuta,

    we’re self sustaining!!

    Jumuta,

windows’ ram overhead is insane though, it’s not like I can’t run it but I wouldn’t want to daily drive it

    Thinkpads RE: Repairability/upgradability

I need to upgrade my laptop and one of the things I’m looking for is repairability/upgradability. I’ve been told thinkpads are good in this respect, how true is that? In terms of replacing batteries and memory, at least. I’m also looking at the frameworks, but those black friday deals are looking alright at lenovo....

    Jumuta,

make sure to get the quad core models for >t440p though

    Help, boot doesn't work anymore

I have a laptop eith sata and a nvme drive. I installed a few operating systems and I decided on Mint for Sata. Installed it copied data from Nvme drive since I was using it as primary. I installed Nobara on nvme and it worked flawless until a few moments ago. Reboted and Mint is gone from boot options. Tried to add it but...

    Jumuta,

have you tried reinstalling the bootloader?

    Jumuta,

I think the arch wiki has a better article imo

    wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB

    Jumuta,

    nah JavaScript is easier

    Jumuta,

choosing English in Celeste be like

    Jumuta,

mint and arch aren’t made for the same people. Not everyone wants it on by default

    Jumuta,

because arch is a minimal distro and some people see the processing power used for bt to be wasted

    Jumuta,

no way urban is that big compared to rural

    does urban here include suburbia??

    Jumuta, (edited )

I like it a lot, and the only issue I have with it is the windows style titlebar

    Jumuta,

probably not, coreboot only really supports old (<7th gen intel) platforms.

here’s a list of working platforms if you’re curious:

    www.coreboot.org/status/board-status.html

    Jumuta,

idk if nsfw is allowed on .ml

    Jumuta,

why not zram as a safety net?

    Jumuta,

i should start reading daily hopper again, it’s such a fun comic

    Jumuta,

    gotta get that t61 rizz

    Jumuta,

try booting off a live usb of a Linux distro you are curious about, it’s easy and reversible

    Jumuta,

    fair enough

    Jumuta,

196 users love the words “tankie” and “nazi” lmao

    Jumuta,

those ppl will create noise at whatever cost lmao, I bet they’ll start attaching external speakers at some point to compensate for the lack of engine noise

    unicorns rule (mastodon.n8vsi.com)

alt textYou’re allowed to believe in a god. You’re allowed to believe unicorns live in your shoes for all I care. But the day you start telling me how to wear my shoes so I don’t upset the unicorns, I have a problem with you. The day you start involving the unicorns in making decisions for this country, I have a BIG...

    Jumuta,

problem is, things like racism and sexism aren’t explicitly taught and are kinda passed on through culture

    Jumuta,

idrc abt the negativity but I much prefer the low amount of bots on here compared to Reddit

    Jumuta,

don’t post to multiple similar communities ffs

    Jumuta,

ehhh debatable, mozilla still gets a lot of funding from google so they’re not as independent as you think. A better world wpuld be one where qtwebkit based browsers, chromium based browsers and firefox based browsers have the same market share.

Unfortunately Apple stole qtwebkit and drove it into the grave so there’s little chance of that actually happening :(

I still hold out hope though, and try to use Falkon whenever possible

    Jumuta,

because the default Firefox is either more convenient for most normal users or gets them more funding because of corporate sponsors

privacy and convenience is always a tradeoff so you can’t just make firefox really private like librewolf and expect mass adoption
