That’s a good reply. Reading the other replies, I realized that great runtime is very different for everyone. I wouldn’t consider 5-7 hours great. More like absolute minimum 8. Better is 10-12. This sounds very unlikely though, apart from MacBooks with ARM CPU.

That is nor really a great runtime for me. I get that it’s different for everyone, though. I edited my original post.

I looked into them. And it sounded a lot of the users are not happy about the build quality compared to Thinkpads or Latitudes. How is your experience? Did you go with Intel or AMD?

not_a_bot_i_swear,
@not_a_bot_i_swear@lemmy.world avatar

Do you have a XPS? How’s the runtime? Are you happy with it in terms of Linux support?

not_a_bot_i_swear,
@not_a_bot_i_swear@lemmy.world avatar

Interesting. 9-10 hours sounds nice! Do you think never ones would have even better runtime? Have you used TLPUI? Maybe with a GUI I could get my self to play around with TLP…

Someone else also recommended a XPS. I’m totally fine with just USB-C. How fast do you get tired? If it’s after 9 hours and the laptop runs for 12, that would be awesome :)

Aren’t there different “levels” of HDR? Most cheap TV’s only support HDR10 which basically does nothing. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the only quality the Steamdeck supports too. I haven’t checked the specs though.

Edit: Nevermind, this is wrong :)

not_a_bot_i_swear,
@not_a_bot_i_swear@lemmy.world avatar

Huh, you’re right. I just looked it up. I was under the impression that there is also an HDR100 and 200 and so on. Thanks for pointing it out!

I’m honestly surprised by the amount of gross people here. It doesn’t matter if you asked some people about your smell. You don’t use deodorant and go about your day, you smell. It is as simple as that. Sure, right after a shower of when lying on the couch the whole day you might be fine. But as soon as you start moving, you smell.

Let the down-votes come :)

Definitely. Me personally, I sweat in humid and hot climates in a certain way but even when it’s dry and cold I get this weird sweat where my body is cold but my armpits are sweating like crazy. It also doesn’t help that you wear warmer clothing you constantly have to shed when going inside…

Not sure how little time you have in the morning, but you could get the big Soylent powder bags and make them yourself. I’ve never tried it with coffee/espresso shots, but I sometimes make one with berries.

Why isn't everyone talking about AI generated audiobooks?

I just listened to this AI generated audiobook and if it didn’t say it was AI, I’d have thought it was human-made. It has different voices, dramatization, sound effects… The last I’d heard about this tech was a post saying Stephen Fry’s voice was stolen and replicated by AI. But since then, nothing, even though it’s...

I would guess there is a LOT of work going into each voice. Playing with different parameters and prompts. I don’t think it’s as simple as just copying the text into a box. Not yet at least :)

I switched to Fedora Workstation a week ago and am super happy!

I just do that with my headphones. Skipping, volume, play/pause.

I wonder when they get sued by Feedly, as their AI assistant is also called Leo…

not_a_bot_i_swear,

Probably all of them… Just a guess though.

Yeah, maybe they mixed it up.

I’ve heard good things about Uberspace for hosting. They don’t offer domain services. I use Namecheap for this but I’ve heard Porkbun is a good choice too.

Are the links working? Can’t see them with Boost…

I don’t use Sync, but I get what you’re saying :)

Controversial take: TOR shouldn’t be used to download large amounts of pirates stuff. The network is already slow and congested and should be kept available for people that need it to fight censorship or other forms of oppression.

Why not get a VPN? Even a free one like Proton allows DDL and gives you protection. And it’s also faster.

Torchwood was amazing! I bought an old RAF(?) flight officer coat like he had 😅

Correct. You can also “forget” a pin or pattern but not your fingerprint or face. I usually delete everything that I don’t want them to see and then turn it off. So you don’t even have to disable it. After a restart a pattern/pin is always required.

You could also check out the Affinity suite of programs.

Kinda old thread but at least now your emails are encrypted at rest. Same as with Proton or Tutanota. Not sure if that was different 3 months ago.
