GissaMittJobb,

You’re probably not going to like the answer, but leaving the country to go somewhere sunny is one of the few strategies I have to defeat the misery that is winter here in Stockholm.

GissaMittJobb,

It doesn’t hurt, to be sure.

GissaMittJobb,

Cinnamon is more common in Sweden actually, but both are of course excellent.

GissaMittJobb,

You need the latest update, then it shows up as a card on the home screen of the app.

I struggled with finding it as well, as I have the Queue-screen as my root screen.

GissaMittJobb,

Oi! You got a license for that pornography?

GissaMittJobb,

The rivalry between Sweden and Norway is only memes, we stand together in all things.

Except winter sports

GissaMittJobb,

I had no idea, that’s horrifying.

I hope you understand that this means war.

GissaMittJobb,

Not great, but it’s open source. If they try anything, just fork it and move on to the fork.

GissaMittJobb,

These clowns said that they would have new nuclear plants up in like 8 years during the election. Post-election the figure has naturally changed, and now they claim that they will have them by 2035.

At the same time, they locally represent the NIMBYs preventing a sizable chunk of renewables from being built, all while the country is struggling with energy on account of the war.

Given that nuclear isn’t exactly economically viable any more, to make this happen, they are also providing financial guarantees to anyone who will build - basically eliminating all the risk for them, but still letting the money go to a private actor instead of having it be national.

In summary, these are clowns of the highest degree. I really fucking hope they get voted out in the next election.

Idea for disrespecting cars

OK so I came up with a slightly crazy idea. Do you know how cars are emblazoned with logos and emblems? Like the brand name (Toyota), the car name (Kluger), engine and other doodads (V6 etc etc). What if we made like jokey versions of these to replace on our cars? Like make a Toyota logo but it looks a bit more like a penis....

GissaMittJobb,

I’ve always been fond of the idea of leveraging some truly vile toxic masculinity shit against car culture advocates.

GissaMittJobb,

Interesting. I wonder if there’s some loss of power involved in this design over your standard derailleur.

GissaMittJobb,

As it turns out, you can’t see the weather outside several hours into the future, nor can you see the weather in places where you happen to not be at that particular moment.

Knowing these can be quite useful, to be able to dress appropriately, for example.

GissaMittJobb,

I’ve been enjoying Ventusky, see if that works for you.

GissaMittJobb,

I subscribe to coffee from my local roastery, which is great.

GissaMittJobb,

Things haven’t really been great in Argentina as the article mentioned, and the alternatives people were given was either more of the same party that’s been in charge, or the literal madman promising to shake things up.

I still think this was the wrong choice - when you need to stop shooting yourself in the foot, it’s obviously not a good solution to start shooting yourself in the leg instead - but I can at least empathize with the choice.

May the lord have mercy on them now

GissaMittJobb,

By the power granted to me by podcasts, I can complete any mundane task. Handling the laundry is no problem at all. I even hang-dry my clothes these days for reduced energy usage and lower wear on the clothes, and the hanging part doesn’t bother me at all.

GissaMittJobb,

Your husband casually insults his compatriots from the northern mexican states. Smh

Wanted to share the libredirect Firefox plugin, for abandoning Youtube. (libredirect.github.io)

This is a plugin I found recently and really enjoy. It gives you the opportunity to redirect several webpages to alternatives. For example Youtube to FreeTube or Piped. If I search for youtube in Firefox, FreeTube automatically opens and shows me my feed. I like it, I use it, I can recommend it.

GissaMittJobb,

If I were to guess, I’d say it’s libre-redirect, with the middle ‘re’ being deduplicated.

GissaMittJobb,

That’s clearly a bripe. Dude is getting his coffee on

GissaMittJobb,

Can’t call yourself a bad boy if you eat your after eights with the peel off. Smh

GissaMittJobb,

It’s very, very easy to solve this problem, Elon - you just sign the contract. It all goes away at that point. Time to wise up.

GissaMittJobb,

Do you mean to tell me that you don’t watch long-form porn, spending 6 hours in a row on one video?

Sweden’s Tesla Blockade Is Spreading (www.wired.co.uk) German

Swedish workers are uniting against Tesla. From tomorrow, cleaners will stop cleaning Tesla showrooms, electricians won’t fix the company’s charging points, and dockworkers will refuse to unload Tesla cargo at all Swedish ports. What started as a strike by Tesla mechanics is spreading, in something Swedish unions describe as...

GissaMittJobb,

This is not true. IF Metall, the union representing the mechanics, have been trying to negotiate with Tesla for many years on behalf of their members. Unions don’t go on strike for members that are not interested in getting a deal.

The reason this conflict has escalated is because of Tesla being unwilling to come to the negotiating table, and as such, other unions are arranging sympathy strikes as a measure to have Tesla come to the table.

GissaMittJobb,

Minor caveat - Tesla doesn’t have a factory in Sweden, their presence is in the form of stores, mechanics and service staff for superchargers (and maybe something else I’m not aware of)

GissaMittJobb,

It was not impossible to implement, no. We can only guess as to why it wasn’t implemented, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’s simply not been prioritized.

GissaMittJobb,

Basically a system where the clips act as Kanban-cards. Simple and effective!

GissaMittJobb,

Algorithm in this case refers to a personalization algorithm, something that Lemmy does not offer.

GissaMittJobb,

I can confirm that you do not suck on them.

GissaMittJobb,

It’s not really a few minutes, it is more like an hour. A constant high supply of nicotine. Very addictive.

GissaMittJobb,

Go with confidence my friend

GissaMittJobb,

No particular reason other than that I haven’t gotten around to checking it out.

I’m on a long trend towards listening through 4 podcasts concurrently, and soon there will be new ones added. Trashfuture is a candidate for sure.

GissaMittJobb,

That, and also aggressive overfishing.

A large part of traditional Swedish food is based on herring: Sill, pickled herring, is present on all the major holiday meals - Midsummer, Christmas and Easter.

There’s also the infamous Surströmming, fermented herring, of which there has been a shortage for several years now. While a small minority of the population, mostly older northerners, eat Surströmming, the loss of this tradition would be quite sad.

GissaMittJobb,

They aren’t. The plus adds the song to a playlist, by default the liked songs-list (a second tap on the plus lets you change which list it goes to). The minus is a “don’t recommend this”-button.

GissaMittJobb,

Prime enshittification

Enshittification does not mean a service getting worse in your opinion, it has a narrower definition - the practice of luring in users with an unusually good deal, many times subsidized by VC money, and then when you’ve got enough users hooked, you improve your bottom line at the expense of the quality of the service.

If you can show that this is something that is improving the bottom line at the expense of the service, then it would be enshittification, but I really don’t think you can.

GissaMittJobb,

The minus only shows up for recommendations/auto-generated things, to allow for signals that this is not the stuff you want to listen to.

It wouldn’t make sense to have it in for example your liked songs, as those are curated by yourself, instead of being curated algorithmically.

People of Lemmy! How to get fit?

Hi guys! For the past… ever, I’ve been putting my health and fitness aside. I tried a few times to get into the habit of exercising to no avail. I’m not overweight or anything but neither am I strong or flexible as I want to be. Mainly because I don’t want to have health troubles later in life. HOWEVER, to get started I...

GissaMittJobb,

It’s important to note that fitness is not really a project with a beginning and an end - it’s a journey that you will be on for as long as you live, basically. As such, you ideally want to find things that:

  • Can sustainably fit into your life
  • You truly find joy in doing

For example, I used to think that the only viable form of cardio was running, and that I needed to be running for the sake of my health. The problem is that I fucking hate running, I consider it to be boring as shit. Hence it was always an uphill battle to run for me.

In its place, I’ve found cycling to be an endless source of fun - I don’t really have to try hard to go cycling, because I yearn to do it as much as I can reasonably fit in.

So I recommend that you try different things until you find something that you really enjoy.

Other than cycling, I really like strength exercise. I used to have easy access to a gym earlier in my life, which is unfortunately not true where I live today, so to get strength work done, I do a routine of body weight exercises. This is by no means the perfect way to become stronger, but you really shouldn’t let perfect be the enemy of good. The best fitness activities are the ones that you can consistently do indefinitely.

Finally, two things that caused problems for me at the start of my fitness journey:

Having neglected strength work for all my life gave me some muscle imbalances that didn’t correct themselves by just doing regular workouts, I had to consult with a physical therapist to learn how to counteract these years of inactivity. The same may or may not be true for you.

Being overweight posed a big challenge at the start of my fitness journey - higher-intensity exercises can really hurt when your organs are a bit cramped by fat. After a huge struggle with dropping my weight, I noticed that a lot of exercises that previously hurt a lot no longer do. This may or may not be applicable for you either.

GissaMittJobb,

Weak glutes, hip imbalance and hamstring tightness were the ones that didn’t improve through ‘regular’ strength work, I needed to do some more targeted exercises to get those things going.

I also had some back weakness leading to neck problems, but I didn’t need the help of a physical therapist to work that out, I noticed it and found corrections for it on my own. The regular strength work didn’t help solve those either, though.

GissaMittJobb,

Meta makes their ARPU readily available to the public, so you really don’t have to guess in this regard: statista.com/…/facebooks-average-revenue-per-user…

Last quarter posted there, it was $19.04 for European users, or €17.84 with today’s exchange rate.

GissaMittJobb,

Looks like they report ARPU on a quarterly basis, yes.

GissaMittJobb,

I’d classify my relationship and thoughts on Google as complex. I like some of the stuff that they do, and I dislike a lot of it as well.
