It’s not really a single song for me, it really depends on how depressed I am and whether I want to dive deeper into it (which really helps a lot sometimes) or make myself feel better.
Dive-in (including, but not limited to):
The album Spiderland by Slint is pretty much full of depression songs for me, gloomy and full of dread. Don, Aman and Washer in particular are very hard hitting for me.
F#A#∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor has similar vibes but is a lot more dystopian and pessimistic. Ever since hearing East Hastings in 28 Days Later it’s been my favourite song on the album.
Feel better (including, but not limited to):
Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.; I normally don’t like this kind of songs but this one just feels honest and sincere which I can appreciate, plus Michael Stipe just has a great voice.
Down Under by Men At Work; Pretty much the polar opposite of the post-punk/-rock songs mentioned above. I really want to move to Australia one day and this song reminds me of that goal.
Happiness/The Gondola Man by Elliott Smith; just a nice song and I really like Elliott’s voice.
My family is very ignorant when it comes to dealing with my Autism. Family gatherings (which happen quite frequently) are super uncomfortable for me and nobody seems to get why, despite me explaining it over and over again. My older brother won’t even acknowledge me having Asperger’s, he just thinks I’m “being weird” on purpose.
I kinda just stopped trying, now I’m just doing whatever I can to get out of those situations. I don’t really care what they think about that any more.
I’ve tried to make things right for everyone around me all my life, it’s time I finally look after myself more.
Nearly all of Studio Ghibli’s earlier films weren’t shown in cinemas. The first one that got a theatrical release over here was Spirited Away (most likely because of its Disney backing).
Princess Mononoke still remains my favourite film.
Definitely PowerToys, there’s some great utilities in there like a Spotlight-esque search/launch bar or a tool to rename multiple files at once.
EarTrumpet is great, too, being basically an enhanced version of the standard audio mixer that lets you change audio devices quickly.
My favourite Windows-only app is probably Foobar2000, though, it’s an endlessly customisable music player with hundreds of plug-ins for nearly every conceivable use case. It takes a while to set up but once you do there’s nothing better.

I’ve noticed YouTube specifically has become more addictive, I never used to be one to sit and scroll for long durations before but I often catch myself spending way too long on shorts now...
I’ve never found anything about those short video platforms appealing, yes there’s some creative people making great content on them but everything else is pretty much garbage.
My phone gets maybe an hour of use on a regular day and most of that is searching for music to listen to on Tidal.
I’m a heavy emoji user, texting is such a poor medium for communication, many times people get the wrong message, but with an emoji you’ll get an idea of the face I’m making, so less chance of misunderstanding...
My dad always bought the no-name cookies for us, according to him every major brand had a deal with discount supermarkets to sell their brand name product under a cheaper no-name alias.
That might be true in some cases but the stuff he bought was mostly just cheap knock-offs that didn’t even come close to the original.
It’s pretty misleading if your not familiar with the interface, isn’t it?
The plus to me signifies that the song will be added to a playlist and personally, I’d be pretty confused if it doesn’t bring up a prompt to choose said playlist. The minus is even more confusing in that context.
That’s kinda like double-mapping a button on a controller, yeah you get used to it but it just makes it more complicated IMO.
Tidal still has the heart and hides away the option to add to playlist in a hamburger menu, which adds one tap but personally, I use the heart function way more often so I don’t really mind.
I’m in the US so I’ve mostly watched US TV shows, I’ve been wanting to watch shows made by other countries as there must be some great ones that never took off in the states....
For the past few weeks I’ve been working on creating my own public radio station (it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid). Well now it’s up and running but I don’t know what to do with it. So I thought I’d see what Lemmy thinks about the concept, before I go all in and start investing in licensing fees, better...
FireWire (or IEEE1394) was commonly used to connect tape camcorders to transfer video due to it being faster than USB at the time, there was also a short period where iPods came with a FireWire cable only (I think). The power output is also a bit higher than what USB-A is capable of (7 vs. 5 W).
Edit: I’m dumb. First and second generation iPods literally had FireWire ports, but they initially only provided FireWire to FireWire cables (6-pin) in the box.
No idea, I don’t have any ThinkPads with IEEE1394. I’m pretty sure the only laptops to come with 6 pin FireWire were Macs, with the 8 pin only appearing on PowerBooks, I believe.
But they dropped FireWire with the first “unibody” MacBook.
Now is a good time to flood Wikipedia with donations. For the first time in my life, i have just donated to them and will do so again. You can do it too for a minimum of €2, no requirement for recurring donations or any nonsense.
The issue didn’t exist for me on Android 13, the telephoto lens always made similar noises when changing zoom levels or even shaking the phone but apparently, that’s just a thing that happens rather than a bug.
ThinkPads once were pretty easy to work on and repair, but then the whole soldering stuff to the system board and removing power bridge batteries happened.
If you look at something like a T430, it has access doors for everything on the bottom in addition to being built like a tank.
Never even heard of this. Basically every school over here (that I know of) uses ViewSonic Smart Boards that run Android, too, although with a nightmare of a launcher on top… They’re probably not even that much cheaper
That’s just weird… Part of the reason I listen to podcasts is that I just enjoy people talking about things and AI voices still have this uncanny quality to me

I’m kinda on the fence here, on one hand it’s pretty cool to be able to care for all those animals and even potentially save them from being killed, on the other hand I kinda think that we, as humans, shouldn’t disturb wild animals any more than we already do but I can see that your intentions are good.
Do you ever get like too emotionally attached to animals you find (to a point where you actually keep them as pets permanently)? Do you still have “normal” pets besides them?
Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I immediately thought to myself “yep, they’re Australian” :D
