reddig33,

Why can’t this country build a modern reactor? Why do we keep investing in outdated, polluting-style nuclear energy?

Kia is holding imported cars on locked compounds, rather than sell or deliver them. (www.cbc.ca)

“New Kia cars are not being released to Ontario dealerships — and reportedly many more across the country — to sell. Instead, they’re being stored on this compound, 30 kilometres south of Kitchener, Ont. and allegedly on other similar compounds across Canada.”

“The reason for this, he explained in the call, is to avoid appearing too successful in the eyes of headquarters in Korea.”

This sounds made up.

reddig33,

Apple has already sorted it out. They announced support for RCS is coming.

reddig33,

Whoever buys it will probably just fill the network with cheap reality trash like they did over at hbo/max.

reddig33,

So is this an actual Lego product? If so, do you have the product number? I know somebody that this would be a perfect gift for.

reddig33,

You should post a federal version of this question after this post calms down.

reddig33,

I won’t miss it. The crying alien who caused the dilithium crisis was the final straw for me.

reddig33,

Such squandered potential. I feel like most of the actors did the best they could with what they were given. I really would have enjoyed this show more if it had been more of an ensemble piece.

reddig33,

I don’t think it had to do with ratings. I think it was part of an overall strategy for the streamer to lean heavily into franchises to entice subscribers. The ratings were probably only so so for Discovery, but until they could get another live action trek spun up and running (SNW) they didn’t have anything else to replace it with. Picard was a limited series that ended up being stretched too thin (season 2).

reddig33,

The Poseidon Adventure (1972). Fantastic set design. All star cast. Oscar winning theme song. Irwin Allen was the master of disaster.

reddig33,

Is this the one where they use concrete road dividers to stop the lava flow?

reddig33,

Jude Law selling the fictional version of ivermectin was an eerie prediction.

reddig33,

Time After Time. Somewhere In Time.

reddig33,

All the links in the article just point to other articles on the same site unfortunately.

Here’s a Reuters article about the same subject if it helps:

reuters.com/…/bakery-prison-uncovered-ancient-rom…

Also reader mode in most browsers bypasses these stupid cookies and agreement panels to read the article. So theoretically you’re not agreeing to anything.

reddig33,

What is the goal in this game? Watching the trailer just shows people running around different areas on foot or on creatures. Is this another “explore” game like No Mans Sky, or is there a mystery to solve, or is it an FPS?

reddig33,

But without the action figure packaging, how will I know the names of half the bridge crew on Discovery?

reddig33,

I didn’t know they made Lego bricks in that color.

reddig33,

Hobby Lobby and Chick Fil A — homophobia and weird religious nonsense/political involvement.

reddig33,

I miss the wood and stained glass from the Leela episodes.

reddig33,

Used EV batteries as power packs tied to the grid. Some neighborhoods are already getting these. They also work well as backup power when the grid goes down.

reddig33,

I will never understand why Valve sits on their popular IP like L4D and Half Life instead of creating new content.

What's your favorite compilation album?

I’ve been really enjoying the Red Hot Organization’s “No Alternative” and “Dark was the Night” recently, both because they raised a lot of money for AIDS research and because they do a great job of capturing the 90s alternative sound and 00s indie sound respectively, and it’s got me thinking how much I love...

reddig33,

The Sire Records “Just Say” albums of the early 90s.

reddig33,

“His name is Dio. Ronnie James Dio!”

reddig33,

Is the owner of the property living there more than 51% of the year? If not, then it’s a hotel, not a BNB. Tax and regulate it as such. Zoning laws prohibit hotels in neighborhoods for example.

reddig33,

It’s time to get rid of user-agent strings that declare anything other than desktop, mobile, or html version.

reddig33,

Broken webpages might be a good thing. There are too many browsers that aren’t adhering to standards. Stop coding around it and start publicly shaming these megacorps.

reddig33,

Let’s put the guy who made the lowest rated Star Wars show in charge of shepherding the entire franchise!

reddig33, (edited )

I would disagree that most of the live action is related to the animated series. The one most related (Ahsoka) bombed.

I’d like to know who steered Obi Wan into the rewrite with “baby leia”. Basically turning it into a Mandalorian season one clone. And who fucked up Boba Fett by adding the neon kiddie scooter gang and Mandalorian in the second half. The first half of the season was a beautiful slow burn, but the latter half was horrible.

reddig33,

Koalas. Or maybe sloths. I’d love to see either climbing the trees when I go to the park.

reddig33,

Teleportation. I love to travel, but I hate the airport.

U.S. Pledge To Triple Global Nuclear Energy By 2050 (www.huffpost.com)

When I first read the titile, I thought that the US is going to have to build A LOT to triple global production. Then it occured to me that the author means the US is pledging to make deals and agreements which enable other countries to build their own. Sometimes I think the US thinks too much of itself and that’s also very...

reddig33,

I’ll believe it when I see it. I’d prefer that they build something modern rather than hauling out the tired old plant designs we’ve been using since the 70s.

Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year (9to5mac.com)

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users....

reddig33,

So will Google shut the fuck up about it now?

reddig33,

And?

  1. Apple’s market share may be larger than some of these other device manufacturers.
  2. Clickthrough on Apple devices might be higher.
  3. Apple is obviously better at negotiating.
  4. There is nothing stopping OEMs from switching default search providers.
reddig33,

I just hope we don’t get another long and boring “trial” episode as a result of it.

reddig33,

Horrible headline. Trees and grass are equally important.

reddig33,

Europe has more affordable EVs than the US. We don’t even get the ID.3 or Fiat 500e over here.

reddig33,

You left out the part where searching for Apple products was returning results of counterfeit products because Amazon loves their scummy cheap junk. Apple got sick of this and told Amazon that if they wanted to be a reseller of actual Apple merchandise, they would need to agree to clean things up or Apple would stop selling on Amazon.

There’s nothing stopping Samsung and other brands from demanding the same thing. And they should.

reddig33,

This series confuses me so much.

reddig33,

Will be interesting to see what was worked out for AI/deepfakes and residuals.

reddig33,

You should look that up. I read that it is something like developers paying someone to live in a mobile home on empty land that they are getting ready to develop. The person in the mobile home voted for the MUD.

reddig33, (edited )

I was disappointed in the broadband bil passing. It sounds like a good idea, but the feds have already poured grant money into the same thing twice in the past twenty years and the money just vanishes with little to show for it. I doubt this is going to do anything different.

reddig33,

Voters hate taxes, but they love debt. Bond elections usually pass. Guess what — if you paid for it upfront (taxes) it would be cheaper.

Same with toll roads.

Same with privatizing the grid.

Same with the push to privatize schools.

It’s gonna cost you more in the long run.
