Oregon, Washington, and most of the Northeast are fine.

Sparsely populated agricultural areas and shitholes like Bakersfield aren't common tourist destinations. You don't need to tell someone to avoid them. So yeah they're "deep red" in the sense that half a dozen yokels that live there are idiots, but they're very, very much in the minority.

And honestly, having traveled a bit, even California Conservatives aren't as Conservative as they think they are; a fact which becomes extremely apparent when they leave the state and then get slapped in the face with actual out and proud racism and they get othered for being from California.

It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Anybody interested in seeing that can hop over the border to Tijuana and check out villages on hillsides essentially made from trash where all the buildings are particle board and cinder block. There's shitty parts of the rural south, but to claim they're the same demonstrates a profound lack of perspective. I dunno, maybe it's gotten better since the late 90s when I was there, but there are degrees to these things.

We can discuss America's fascism problem without being ridiculous muppets and or Kremlin/CCP propaganda vehicles.

Texas is a state, dear. Administrative incompetence notwithstanding, it still has better infrastructure than a good portion of the world and pretty much all of what we'd consider the "3rd world." And also, they only have the problems they have because they deliberately cut themselves off from the national grid.

Nah, it's still very impressive. The two things aren't necessarily related and you've presented zero evidence that they are. The entire idea that India's options were "feed kids or go to space" is reductive to the point of absurdity. They could do both.

In any case, exploring our solar system isn't a luxury akin to owning a sports car. It's science. It's pushing the boundaries of human knowledge. It is incredibly valuable in a way that's hard to quantify.

And quite frankly, Modi had precious little to do with this. He's a politician and this happened while he was in power. That's it. It's not like he was in the control room giving directions or turning a screwdriver or something.

She's a very well written abrasive, abusive, xenophobic, domineering space Nazi. Which, I mean, yeah cool I just don't want to be around her. In fairness I hate Astarion more and find Shadowheart obnoxious to the point that I rerolled cleric just to not have her around. I'm 50-50 on Vampire Twink vs. Emo Priestess being more annoying to talk to, but at least twinky does his job well and provides some useful burst damage. My cleric does a much better job as a healer and support caster.

Thank you! The strength of video games as a medium is interactivity. If it doesn't enhance my ability to exist and act in a virtual space it's essentially worthless to me. I want better physics, better AI, and more interesting mechanics, not better anti-aliasing and effects that mistake eyeballs for camera lenses.

Why is there so much hate against children here?

It was the same on Reddit, people openly say disturbing things against children. What prompted me to post this is someone saying that babies should be put in overhead bins inside airplanes. Even if they’re joking, this is a disgusting thing to say. I won’t say that about anything else....

LTT is Linus Tech Tips, originally a YT channel where Linus and others discussed technology products, particularly pc gaming hardware. They got kinda big, and became a whole tech media company.

Madison was a former employee of the company who alleges that LTT leadership created a hostile work environment for her. Her accusations paint the company as filled with unempathetic tech bros who demand way too much productivity out of staff. Most seriously, there were accusations of sexual harassment by different team members, though not Linus himself that I'm aware of. She has a social media thread where she describes these accusations in detail and depth. If true they are very damning.

According to Brown University, the rate of incidence for false accusations of sexual harassment hovers between 2 and 10%. Citations are available in the article.

So yeah, people lie, but it's probably nowhere near what you're thinking. Consider the shit storm that making accusations against a company like LTT unleash. For most people, it won't be worth it. Some unknown amount of social media clout is not worth an unending stream of bile and death threats as well as the unknown effect on future employment prospects.

I understand the desire to reserve judgment, but I think whistleblowers like this should be treated with an open mind.

Republican electoral fortunes rely on the Evangelical Christian vote. Without them, they lose most of the time. But in the 70s, some Republican strategist realized they could use them to win, so this happened. It's a worthwhile read.

I just .... stopped playing it halfway through. It's what the game seemed to want, so that's what I gave it. It didn't hurt that the mechanics were bad and it wasn't actually any fun to play.

There's just so much manipulation inherent in the game that its commentary feels cheap for me. It's like setting out a box of knives for your kids to play with and then scolding them when they do. Hey, asshole, you set up the box and put it out there. What did you expect?

It would be so much more meaningful if the player actually had choices within the game. As it was, I decided to go play something fun.
