There’s strong statistical evidence suggesting that millennials are, on average, older than gen z’ers. It not clear from the latest studies what could have caused this presumed age gap.

Those same studies also evidenced the startling fact that the tested individuals shared over 99.9% of their genome and could in fact belong to the same species, which is what prompted all the recent controversy after one of the lead researchers said in a televised interview that “they’re all people”.

I fully agree with this comment, and yet I feel personally attacked.

I need to know where this is, I’m sure I’m going to come across a door with this rune

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

No way. I could see 20 in heavy city use and loaded, but 30 to 40 mpg is fairly standard.

Us Starfield player: you guys get to manage your inventories?

ByteJunk,

Oh man these are so fun to read!

I’ve never played paper and pen DND, any suggestions of YouTube or podcast of people playing in goofy/weird ways, but within the rules?

So that’s how much my data is worth to Meta?

Dozens of health organizations pledge ‘full support’ for federal ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars (www.cnn.com)

Eighty national public health groups, including the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Preventative Medicine, placed a full-page ad in Sunday’s edition of the Washington Post in support of a federal ban on menthol in cigarettes and all...

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

So the takeaway is that the health warnings are right?

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Menthol and other flavoured cigarettes were banned in the EU years ago, and I don’t recall much of a fuss, not sure why this would be an issue in the US.

My experience was that long time smokers weren’t the ones smoking menthol and other weird stuff, it was mostly kids that didn’t like tobacco.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

We definitely need laws regulating salt intake, that much will kill you bro.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, I know. Which is why I pointed to the example that is actually relevant, as the EU passed this exact law years ago.

But I don’t suppose you troubled yourself with that, and I get it. Going down that road might actually force you to reconsider your perspective at some point, or alternatively, deal with a massive and inconvenient cognitive dissonance, so instead you chose the safe path and stick to your cautionary tale because it validates your reasoning, if we just ignore for a moment the fact that it’s irrelevant regarding this specific instance and a better source was available to educate us about the effects of this legislation.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t know the first one until I got it as one of epic free games and it blew my mind. I’m keeping this onw on my radar.

This is hilarious stuff.

In a wonderful example of the importance of epeen, people in heated arguments over there have released classified documents just to prove they’re right.

You have a link here for leaked docs for a British Challenger II tank, but its not the only case.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

What a sick burn, could have used it on Steven Hawking too.

Oh w…

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry what do you mean with your last sentence, “create a scenario in which the rule would be correct and give a hint”?

Never played pen and paper, this question fascinates me.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Oooh, really nice answer. Thank you!

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Not saying you’re wrong, but a source to go with that would be great.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

I assume you’re downvoted by someone who’s oblivious to the concept of sarcasm.

But I’ll add that even if they read this, we can always ban abortions so their whole life is fucked and they become good and obedient -slaves- workers

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

General strike (like the writers guild, except everyone) until the distribution of (a part of the) dividends to the workers is enshrined into law.

Sounds pretty doable to me.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Opinions are more human because they’re mostly posted by actual humans. Reddit and that clowfiesta previously known as twitter are clogged by astroturf.

If lemmy ever gets really big, no doubt we’ll see the same here unfortunately.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not that America is hung up on guns per se. It’s that the corporations are allowed to dictate the conversation by pouring money into loudmouths and social media farms, and ultimately the laws themselves by -corrupting- lobbying lawmakers.

Funnily enough, foreign power also found that they can play that same game and funnel money to create chaos. Just look at the other thread that points to russian money funding the new speaker’s 2018 campaign…

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

I really like the idea of mandatory profit distribution to workers.

Imagine a world where this (or even half) gets divided equally by all apple workers. So much money going back into the economy, and a much smaller incentive to maximize profits…

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you dropping by HR today, Mr. Penguin!

As we said in the email, you can see here in the fine print that no leaving hours were specified, and we MOST CERTAINLY never implied that your working hours would be restricted by daylight.

As such, we expect you to only leave your cubicle when dawn breaks, which, very generously, should be more than sufficient to cover your day to day needs before resuming work.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

This data is plain wrong, at least for some countries.

96% for Portugal would be amazing, but that seemed excessive so I looked it up, renewables accounted for 73% only.

I mean, it not bad, but we could be 99% there by now if the governments weren’t pandering to utilities and fossil companies so much.

Edit: sorry forgot to link the source for power data

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Might I add, they keep adding so much useless junk to their browser hopping that any of it will stick, and it’s just bloat and more bloat.

Edge is going full IE6. The Greeks were right, time is a fucking circle, not a line.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

I remember that nightmare vividly, my old company was using that piece of absolute garbage up until 2017 or so, until all the critical crap that had it as a hard requirement was replaced.

Not being used to F at all, it seems to me that C has at least least some very notable landmarks - 0 frozen, 100 boiling. I have zero landmarks for F

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

True. This particular trial is a civil one however, so prison is not a possible outcome.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

Those “control freaks” only exist in your imagination, look at the reality around you. Almost everyone’s up for legalization of cannabis.

Tobacco users however are a huge burden on national health programs (ok except on the US, where people are just expected to cough up all their family’s money before they die idk)

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think that a good parallel. The US did issue a formal declaration of independence, clearly communicated it to the whole world, and defended it successfully.

The situation with Taiwan is much more ambiguous, as I don’t think independence has been the goal. It’s more a civil war that never really ended, and the US giving weapons to one side clearly disturbs the status quo. Of course China is also constantly looking to disturb it in their favor, so all of it is a very delicate balancing act…

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

There is as much reason for them to declare independence from PRC as there is for the US to declare independence from Portugal.

You just chose to ignore the fact that the PRC claims Taiwan as their territory, while Portugal makes no such claim over the US.

ByteJunk,
@ByteJunk@lemmy.world avatar

They’ll probably still do it even if it’s pushed to the side. Jerks gonna jerk.

…wait.
