Arigion,

That explains a lot about this song from Knorkator (German only): youtu.be/E_0rkQIufu8?si=AQsNUkK05_97HtE6

Arigion,

I’m curious. I’ve seen this exact type of shower (including the taps) only in Australia so far. Is it a common type in other countries too?

Arigion,

The shower head in the picture is a bit unusual because of the two screws on the right where you can adjust the head. If you loosen the one next to the wall the shower head tilts down and faces the wall (which is nice if warm water takes a while and you don’t like a cold shower) and with the other one you could make it spray the opposite wall. So it’s pretty versatile. (Or annoying if the screws can’t be tightened enough)

Arigion,

Arigion,

Came here to say, that I came here to say this, too.

Kommentare unter Nachrichtenartikeln machen mich krank [Wut/Enttäuschungs-Pfosten] (lemmy.world) German

“Hmm, da muss man wirklich was dran tun.

Arigion,

In short: it’s always like this, sometimes more, sometimes less. And guess what: it’s the main part of the job. As a developer you have to understand what the customer (your boss) needs (sometimes not what they say they want) and to figure out how to do that by yourself. It’s nice to have colleagues you can ask, but it’s like on stackoverflow. The accepted answer is not necessarily the right or good one. Often you have to work with bad documented legacy artifacts (code, api) and figure out what they do. Also the tech changes, you have to constantly keep up with changes and what was great years ago may now be outdated. My advice:

  • Do not start coding until you are sure you understood what is to be done.
  • if there is no user story to describe the task write it yourself
  • write good tests for your code. It’s an art. While thinking about corner cases you often find questions you did not think about at first
  • if you don’t know how to do it ask people around you, browse the web, read books. Develop the skills to figure stuff out. Most of the time noone knows the correct answer. It’s your job to find it.
  • do code reviews with others, usually both benefit from it
  • write clean code

If you don’t like your working environment then change it. Especially when you think you can’t learn anything new there or it is no fun to work there. Go to meetings in your area (meetup or so) or online to meet other developers and ask them about their job. You get a feeling about what is considered a good job in your area. Good developers will always find a good job. Be one of them. As long as you think you’re a god who can code anything, that’s probably not the case. ;-) The best you can achieve is to be an expert in a very narrow field and to be good in some others.

Arigion,

Which actually is better than Excel. Currently I have to work with Excel. Gosh, how bad it got. Especially CSV import and cell formating. They really worked on being incompatible to even basic data formats just to keep you in their eco system. Try to import a UTF-8 CSV where the delimiter and the number format differs from the system settings. It completely fucks up your data and you have to import it as text and then you have to format each colum separately. Because changing the format from text to number does NOT change the view. You have to update each column manually. FU MS. There are comedy videos about number formatting in Excel: youtu.be/yb2zkxHDfUE?si=CtYMI-5FsU2bPZUF

Arigion,

Thanks for trying to help. But that’s the point. They make something which was easy deliberately overly complicated. The next step will be that they force you to discuss the csv import with ChatGPT for 5 minutes. And every time you’ll hear: well ok, this step now is more complicated, but we gave you a mighty tool which can do SO much more.

Radio München - Microsoft kontrolliert automatisiert jetzt alles ... (www.radiomuenchen.net) German

Arigion,

They insert sleep(1) and print statements. No shit. I had to fix this in two projects. One was a complete rewrite.

Arigion,

Miniaturisierung ist doch modern, oder?

Arigion,

Wer STÖRt denn hier?

Arigion,

Arigion,

The problem here is crystal clear. It is not illegal to get shot by somebody. If getting shot would be illegal, there wouldn’t be so many victims. I mean how is it real freedom if I want to shoot in a mall or university and then these woke people steal my flying bullets with their bodies. That is not what God intended when He gave us guns. /s

Arigion,

Which timezone? Europe as a continent has 7 primary timezones, the EU itself has even more, see: …wikipedia.org/…/Extreme_points_of_the_European_U…

Arigion,

Dann aber schnell den Zahnarzt gewechselt. Deutsche, lasst nur bei Deutschen bohren! /s

Arigion,

Ja.

Arigion,

Ändere meinen Verstand.

Da ist wohl nicht viel zu retten.

Arigion,

Gerne. Ich kenn mich da aus. 😉

Arigion,

Why would they use bitcoins to pay for the stream? If it’s already bitcoin why bother?

Arigion,

It’s illegal in the EU, so probably not there.

Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun?

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

Arigion,

I have never ever heard of a game coming with a help hotline. And I played a lot of games in that time. TIL that

one classic example is the game “The Legend of Zelda” for the NES. The game contained cryptic puzzles and secrets that were not easily solvable. Nintendo provided a hotline, called the Nintendo Power Line, where players could call in for tips, tricks, and solutions. Calls to the hotline were not free, creating an additional revenue source for the company.

Arigion,

with Lemmy and Mastodon the opensource community has a place to really try itself out

Sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Arigion,

My problem with systemd is that since I’m practically forced to use it that it’s flakey in starting services after boot (independent of service and distro). Since systemd I had to install monit to check if all services came up. Didn’t had that problem before. Or I forgot, it’s been a while…

Arigion,

Lol. Thanks. I really don’t care. I’m running linux servers professionally since the late 90s, which means I have seen one or the other WTF. And systemd had quit some of them, especially flooding log files and race conditions. For example see github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/7293. That took more than 2 years to fix. And if people like to downvote my personal experience with it they are welcome to do so. I mean all I did was answering a question why one might use a systemd free distribution. Oh and for the downvoters: SYSTEMD IS MICROSOFTS ATTEMPT TO KILL LINUX! Poettering always was their agent. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lennart_Poettering😉

Arigion,

I bought NMS on release, even got a new PC for it and man was I disappointed by the missing content. Worse, after every time I tried to get back into it with some update my last efforts were broken. My base was broken or my home planet changed in a bad way or suddenly I had to manage a colony which I did not enjoy or my ship got lost due to a glitchy starbase. Every new patch I’m reminded of that and now I don’t bother to start it any more. I hope y’all have so much more fun with it than I had.

Arigion,

I have a catch all email, so I create an account every week for no good reason. Anyone else?

Arigion,

Because I can give the credentials to someone who want’s to play the game and I don’t give access to all of my games.

I even do that with games I buy. You hacked my diablo3 account? Bad luck. But you don’t have access to all my other games. I can even resell the whole game account when I’m done playing.

Don’t get why my inital post was downvoted. I’m not saying that you should do that. Was just asking. But ok.

Arigion,

Yes. I really don’t think it’s an effort really. I mean I just press register and enter [email protected]. This takes a minute. It’s not that I have to create a new emailaccount or something. And I can even remember them, because the names follow a pattern. As I said it all goes in a single catch-all inbox where I can easily filter by adress. And if I get spam on such an adress they either got hacked or sold my data. Origin for example leaked my email adress for Dragon Age. I also give out unique emailadresses everywhere I need to give one. I got spam on an email I gave exclusively to an ebook distributor. When this happens I just block this adress. I do this because it’s no effort at all. If we meet I could say to you: my email is [email protected] and you get out your phone, send me an email and I recieve it. No work at all on my side.

Arigion,

Here you go: youtu.be/FIRT7lf8byw

Disclaimer: That guy was lucky. Don’t try this.

Arigion,

Do you have any credible source for your claim? I would like to point out National Geographic amongst others who thing its genuine: nationalgeographic.com/…/man-punches-kangaroo-sav…

Arigion,

And in a hundred years someone finds this old 2d-photo, and thinks we all looked like that and how common it seemed to loose two fingers, watching the guy on the left and in the back. Probably lumberjacks. They might be colleagues of the blind person to the right. Just like us watching the old b&w photos from a hundred years ago.

Arigion,

That reminds me of the german version of baby shark: youtu.be/olhczmTbB4I

Arigion,

Ah finally another duck. I was thinking if I should also get a toy named cover, because whenever I hear duck my brain autocompletes: …and cover. Because of this shit: youtu.be/zMnKNHNfznE :-)

Arigion,

This inspired me to show my rubber duck: feddit.de/post/2384302

Arigion,

Basically every backend which needs to connect to external services. Like authentication/authorization for example.

Arigion,

Wait until you hear about traditional Japanese timekeeping, where the hours had different lengths throughout the year, depending on daylight: youtu.be/1BJmnEa6YGE
