Make it possible to get Premium without YT music bolted on it.
Believe it or not Google: Some users don’t want it or already have a platform.

Bitwarden for example does public reports and is pretty cheap at 10€ per year. But the base (free) offering is more than enough. The fee is only to have TOTP and a bit of encrypted cloud storage. bitwarden.com/help/is-bitwarden-audited/

enthusiast: Yesn’t.
Depends on product range, price, price vs. conpetition and price/performance ratio

Business: Usually yes but they come with a “business tax” attached. Meaning they are made to make more money. So the manufacturer could in turn ask for more $$$.
Suddenly a 1000€ VR headset might cost 3000€ and could require a mo thly fee for the software.
Also have features you wouldn’t need at home like kensington locks.

That may be true for stuff delivered to the army but I would believe the myth more in my local electronics store.
Also stuff made 15 years ago seems more durable than the stuff from say 5 years ago.

Editing news should require by law an editors note at the bottom what was changed to what like a github commit.

If you cite that shit literally somewhere you could get in trouble for citing wrongly.

You should ad an edit to this comment:

You could join two different networks

And bind the port to that.

Example:

<span style="color:#323232;">    ports:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 8880:8880 #HTTP port #optional
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 8443:8443 #HTTPS port
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 3478:3478/udp
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 10001:10001/udp
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 8080:8080
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - "10.0.0.253:1900:1900/udp" #optional
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 8843:8843 #optional
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 6789:6789 #optional
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       - 5514:5514/udp #optional
</span><span style="color:#323232;">     networks:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       service:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">       net:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">         ipv4_address: 10.0.0.253
</span>

In that case I binded the container to the service network but needed a static IP reachable by outside devices.
So I created a macvlan adapter, binded the port 1900 to that adress and all was fine.
Should probably work for your use case.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Just use Linux, no need for containers.

Depends heavily on the use case. You can’t just rule out a full technology without a proper reason/justificiation beyond “Container bad”.

Don’t quite get why Wordpress is anywhere near this. Isnt this a website solution?

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s a really neat way of intergrating it.
We could literally follow ArsTechnica (they are on wordpress according to their last BTS) on Lemmy.

Would be neat if Wordpress develops it further so a theme topic like tech or politics would be [email protected] or [email protected] amd thus followed.

Appoxo, (edited )
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Am from Germany and went to Nuremburg to visit a convention.
The public transit is night and day between those two places.
Only had to wait about <10min for the next bus.
I believe the accomodation is not very outside or inside of the transit serving area but it is surprising what a subway and a good schedule can do for one.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It was tried multiple times.
So far every company went out of business because the amount of content uploaded and the cost to store and distribute is not matched by the amount ofdollars from users, premium users and ads.

Google operated Youtube as a loss project but kept it going for the data and market grip.

Setting up a stack of mongo db and unifi network application in docker compose
Doesnt work

Takes stack down, turns a setting off and on, starts the compose
Suddenly starts working

._.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Thing is I am a complete novice, set it up correctly but was duped by a bug.
Because I didn’t know better I hunted ghosts until I found the one special and specific github issue tipping me off about the setting.

First program on the page for docker:
Nothing better than having a 2FA generator in a webpage xD

This is truly a “Don’t you have phones” moment.

IMO this type of data should be on a locked down system like a smartphone or a non network connected type of PC with a screen. Not some local hosted website. Malware will not care!

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I prefer using Aegis encrypting exports and syncing those to my nas via syncthing.
But essentially it’s the same as yours.

But that tool seems to be a webpage acting as a TOTP generator.
I wouldn’t entrust such a selfhosted program to host securely solely because I may use permissions wrong and not to mention an attacker silently exporting the whole configuration.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Depends highly.
Some yes like Oppenheimer or Avatar for visuals or some that need a big screen for the immersion^tm

Some absolutely not.

I totally forgot how terrible a non-ad-free YouTube experience is

So I’ve been using youtube ad blockers since pretty much when ad blocker extensions were first available. Lately though I’ve been getting hit more and more with these messages that YT was sending out every 5 or so videos telling me that adblockers aren’t allowed. No problem, just gotta wait 5 seconds to x it out and then...

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

At least you can skip LTT ads.Try that with YT ads.

How to plan something with someone who doesn't have ADHD?

I have ADHD and my partner does not. When we were planning our wedding it was really difficult because she would do most of the planning (because I wasn’t doing it and someone had to and she loves planning), but when we needed to plan anything together it was like pulling teeth for me. I wanted to help out but it was always so...

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Recently planned a trio to a convention.
Looked on some page for a location to sleep, found something I liked and booked it.
Probably not the cheapest but I was kinda late anyway.

Meanwhile my mother (which I live with) basically plans the whole trip for ~10 days.

On the one hand I hate surprises on the other I hate planning too much and being restricted.
Gotta choose the poison :/

Docker eases the automated setup.
Yours surely does work but docker compose is really nice if you want to have multiple types of one thing on the same hardware (like 2 sonarr/radarr for 4K content).
Simply impossible with regular installs.
Also while yes it complicates somethings it also makes maintenance so easy with updates than anything else.
Remove the image and you are only left with files you put in /path/to/folder.
Remove a conventional program and you’d need to hunt down the files it created somewhere in the file structures like AppData or /opt and other folders.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Youtube/Google serves ads from the same domain as video content so obviously DNS blockers do not work.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar
  1. You will probably not reach the level of quality with something like a pirate hoster.
    Either the content will have a lower bitrate or lower resolution.
  2. Foreign dub is hard to come by in decent quality.
  3. Yes storage and compute is surely more expensive but for some it’s a hobby and a learning experience
Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

(like 2 sonarr/radarr for 4K content).

Literally in the comment…

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I don’t do it but I read that those are the reason for doing it were having both versions side by side without trumping another and without doing a manual automatic transcode by something like plex/handbrake.
Or that you would do a separate 4K library so when you share the library with family the fanily will only watch content that fits in the upstream pipe and doesn’t transcode while you could watch crisp 4K content.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar
