psychothumbs,

This is why the alien entity in the Expanse was called the Protatomolecule

psychothumbs,

Nice. All corporate mergers are anti-consumer and anti-worker.

psychothumbs,

I’d endorse that summary of his policy preferences. It’s staggering how crippling having a monetary but not a fiscal union has been for Europe.

How did Lemmy World become the default instance?

World was already the biggest by far when I first started lurking back in July, and it’s just getting more dominant. Before, there was quite some diversity in the distribution of generic communities, but nowadays the vast majority of posts that reach the top are from over there....

psychothumbs,

I think the big thing is not having any requirements to join, you just make an account and you’re in. I started out trying to join a different instance and the second I saw a list of questions to answer I noped out and came here.

psychothumbs,

Meaning you’re on a space station right now?

psychothumbs,

That doesn’t make any sense. If I’m instantly transported 2 feet to my left I’m still going to be in the same room, not in outer space. Maybe you’re thinking of this issue with time travel?

psychothumbs,

And it’s a disaster in Canada. The only reason the Conservatives ever take power up there is because of the giant vote split between NDP and the Liberals. Look how the conservatives are heavy favorites to win their next election despite every poll showing them with less than the combined votes of the Liberals and NDP: en.wikipedia.org/…/Opinion_polling_for_the_45th_C…

psychothumbs,

In the general election the “feasible” candidate is always the Democratic nominee, so you should never have any argument about it at that stage. Meanwhile in the primary people try to use that sort of “feasibility” / electability argument against farther left Dems, but it is total nonsense and can be completely ignored at that stage.

psychothumbs,

Lately I’ve just been rewatching the final episode of the previous season before starting a new one. I’m a little lost in that episode but by the end I’m following along, and it’s usually an exciting finale episode that gets me excited to watch the next episode.

psychothumbs,

Yeah that rule is particularly crazy

psychothumbs,

That’s a little misleading, this was a 16 year old who was living with her 18 year old boyfriend and his mom. Obviously having an abortion was the only remotely sensible thing to do rather than bringing a baby into that household.

psychothumbs,

Threatened her? I guess you’re referring to this?

The girl said that she was “happy” to learn she was pregnant, but said Kadyn Swainston told her that he would not pay child support and that the relationship would be over if she gave birth, court records show. The girl also said that Rachael Swainston made the arrangements for the girl to have an abortion. Rachael Swainston told the girl that Kadyn Swainston would get in trouble because he was over 18, and threatened to kick her out of the house if she revealed she was pregnant to her parents, police said.

I don’t think a mother telling her teenage son’s girlfriend that she’s not going to have a baby she can’t support under her roof is inappropriate. She could go back to her parents or anywhere else on Earth that would have her if she wanted to become a teen mother.

psychothumbs,

Huh I wonder if there’s even any point in hulu continuing to exist in that case - why not just combine it with disney+?

psychothumbs, (edited )

I didn’t leave immediately, but then my account got banned and having started using lemmy made me not bother making a new one. I may have to eventually venture back to reddit for the occasional niche community, but otherwise lemmy is just as good for getting my posting and scrolling done.

I’m a heavy poster and posting things I read to the appropriate subreddit has been a part of my internet process for a long time, so it was key to have a new place to keep doing that. Though that has resulted in there being several subs on here where I have made a large majority of the posts… but I tell myself it’s more worthwhile to be posting things here where they’ll be seen by fewer people but will contribute to this community existing rather than giving free content to reddit.

psychothumbs,

I basically just eat whatever I feel like whenever I feel like it. Lots of meat and fat and salt. Seems to work great, I’m reasonably skinny and healthy. To the extent I’m not just getting randomly lucky I think I’ve stumbled into something in the Atkins diet genre, with unlimited calorie and nutrient dense foods not being an issue because they fill me up when I’ve had enough.

psychothumbs,

I think lemmy skews a lot older than reddit, we are reliving our internet youth

psychothumbs,

It can’t quite get brutalist buildings to look as good as non-brutalist buildings, but yeah painting them is a great move that really improves the vibe.
