While I’ve looked into Fedora Silverblue, that distro is limited to only install Flatpaks, which is fine for “apps”, but seems to be more of a problem with managing system- and CLI tools.
No. Your understanding to Fedora Silverblue is wrong. I can just run rpm-ostree install package.name in Silverblue, like other Fedora spins. The small disadvantage is that I need to reboot to apply this update. (re-construct)
but doesn’t that result in new A/B snapshots, or something like that?
Well, you can call it snapshots, but there is no need to think about it. In most cases, the system points to the newest snapshot (deployment 0). If a rollback is needed, I can pin to the older deployments. When a major change is to be applied (Like bump Fedora version), I’d manually mark the current deployment as dont-auto-delete.
Sure, but I’d like to have a more seamless experience, i.e. not having to open/start any “containers” or something like that.
I never used toolbox in my Fedora Silverblue system. I feel that I can’t tell the difference between using Silverblue and the default Fedora spin
I right now have 215GB and pay 0$. I boght a used LG V10 and HTC One M9 and they had some kind of promotion that gave you 100GB of free space for a year. Its been well over a year now and I still have it.
Not to shit on your parade (and congratulations for losing that weight!) buuuut for anyone reading this thinking “juicing” is a shortcut to a healthy life:
It really isn’t.
Fruit juices like apple or orange juice especially when bought contain a ton of sugar and often lack all-important fiber as OP points out.
In fact, drinking a lot of (fruit) juice has been linked to increased risk of type 2 diabetes (see “health effects”). There is absolutely no indication that juicing is in any way superior to just eating fruit and veggies and to the contrary quite some indications that juicing is actually inferior.
I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....
Web apps (for MS Office/Teams), Wine (mostly for games and random apps), and for everything else, an optimized Tiny11 Core VM + WinApps for seamless windows/integration with Linux. My Tiny11 only uses 0-1% CPU and 600MB RAM on idle so I’ve got no issues running it in the background, besides it takes only a couple of seconds to launch, if I wanted to start it on demand.
I’ve also got a portable SSD with a copy of Windows installed on it, just in case I need it for some firmware updates or something (although I’m on a Thinkpad so pretty much everything can be updated via LVFS, but I keep it around just in case + it’s portable so there’s no harm in having it around).

Imagine having ads in things but instead of just being there, they opened in new windows, were loud as fuck, and opened by the hundreds. That’s what the Internet was like
There is a 0% chance you were an adult in the early 2000s lol
I’m 49, dude. And the meme isn’t about “the internet”. It is literally about the difference between people sharing stuff back then and “creating content” today. Shitty internet parts have always been shitty, but at least people didn’t try to monetize even their beloved ones’ death.
Yes, I specifically checked the wiki Event Timer to really doubly make sure, there was no meta going on. An entire squad stood there baffled. I checked again two hours later and 0 meta squads. I’ll again personally join the map again later and check it a third time.
Because Privacy isn’t 1 or 0 situation. It is granular thing you may think using YouTube crosses the line but others might not agree.
We as a community can choose what crosses the line for this community.
Personally I am fine with YouTube links, there is usually a bot posting a more private link down below if you want. It makes it easy to pick one of the other it isn’t that big of a deal.
It all depends. I don’t have a will of steel, that’s for sure. I started it to lose weight but have continued after my chronic heartburn stopped immediately, my eczema went away, my blood sugar came down and my triglycerides dropped to a normal range. I take 0 prescription meds now.
I feel so much better, no longer have heartburn wake me up in the middle of the night, and no longer have my fingers crack and bleed from eczema. 7 years in and it’s really no trouble staying on the diet. The 45 lbs I lost turned out to be a minor benefit of the diet, not the major benefit.
It’s sad that defending yourself and your property from robbers is often vilified in the west. There is a 0% chance the police were going to find and return his property.
Since Geany 2.0 has recently been released I decided to switch back to it from Kate. I used to like Geany but it had some problems I couldn’t quite remember....
Hi that is kind of you to reconsider. No offense taken or intended. :) It’s just that 3 people commented to tell me to make an issue as though asking a question about linux software was inappropriate. Whereas 0 people commented with anything about my question. I still wonder if I am doing commenting wrong somehow.
I am pretty sure I opened some kind of issue with these folks in the past and it was closed because I couldn’t submit a PR. I thought it was some sort of policy but I can’t find anything about it; either I am misremembering or whatever I read before is gone.
I really truly do not begrudge any devs for running their FLOSS projects how they feel is best for them. It takes all types to make up the world. I think on the whole it is better for the FLOSS community to be open to feedback even from those who aren’t able to provide a solution, in order that the needs of non-developers can be met. But when it comes to a project which is explicitly aimed at developers, idk what can I say? It’s probably better that people who prefer issues be in the form of PRs be creating tools for other developers rather than normy end users.
Immutable distros solve the “distro broke and now its not booting” as in that case you wont get an update.
Maybe if their testing is good other bugs are detected too. Also, everyone has the same OS. So the community can quickly report breakages and the update can be reverted.
For easy rollbacks, regular BTRFS snapshots work too. But not sure if these boot options are just the kernel, Fedora has this by default. I guess immutable OSses are better here too.
So having some way to detect nvidia updates (this is an open field but could be great, like a popup “nvidia drivers updated!”, as updates are done automatically in the background) could help. Always if you get this popup, reboot and check the OS veeery thoroughly.
You could also increase the number of backup deployments to keep, like 3-4 or so. Takes up some extra GB of space but not really a problem.
Or, you could do an ostree admin pin 0 whenever an update with nvidia finished. Then reboot and check it out. If it breaks, you have that working version pinned, just reboot and you have your working system back.
