Engywuck,

Can relate. I vehemently hate dancing, to the point I can get upset even if someone just suggests it to me.

Engywuck,

GFTO, lol

Engywuck,

dancing is for everyone, just gotta find the right headspace (and the right music, it’s still hard for anyone to dance to music they don’t enjoy imo).

I disagree. If it implies forcing one self and a lot of work, it definitely isn’t for everyone. On top of that, some people (me) just refuse to dance, because I find it stupid and not even funny.

Engywuck,

Yes, I have stepped many many times out of my comfort zone. Thank you for you concern. However, I consider dancing such a stupid, meaningless thing that even my stupidest part plainly refuse to even think of learning it. It’s not like it is a useful skill anyway.

Engywuck,

is it useful to be able to impress your preferred gender of person

I don’t need to “impress” anybody. And if someone would try to “impress” me by dancing, lol, good luck with that. And frankly I prefer to avoid people that love dancing. So I don’t need (not even want) to maintain these kind of relationships.

Let’s stop here. I’m not going to change my mind on this topic. Ever.

Engywuck,

But you have freedom (“free” as in “free to pay”)!

Engywuck,

I say nothing. Not my businesses. Their data. their choice. Why should I criticize their decision?

Engywuck,

Okay, but what if their carelessness about privacy directly or indirectly affects you? For instacne, if someone in your contacts doesn’t prioritize privacy and has granted apps access to their contacts, it could potentially expose your information indirectly.

I understand this and every other example you point out, but let’s be real: I can’t physically check what my friends, family and beloved ones do with my (meta)data without heavily invading their privacy (that’s ironic) or schooling them about how evil GAFAM are and so on. Most of my friends aren’t also technically inclined, so it would be both a waste of time and a source of useless arguments. I just do my part and I can’t do more. Neither can you, frankly.

Engywuck,

And I have moved my mastodon account to an instance who actively defederated Threads. I’m not interested in interacting with anyone on that network.

And I’m fucking sick of the “content relevant for me” thing. I interact with people asking/giving help, discussing and so on. Mindlessly consuming “content” is simply a disease.

Engywuck,

Tell that to @Gargron (the creator of Mastdon, AFAIK). He’s very excited about this. And I can’t honestly understand why.

mstdn.social/…/111576826633308486

Engywuck,

Just migrate your account to a different instance, if you plan to use it. It’s not difficult and many of them already defederate from Threads (mstdn.social, for instance).

Engywuck,

True… It amazes me when people become so entitled online, especially in the FOSS community. It looks like they think devs owe them something.

Engywuck,

I use docker myself on my RPi4, but the OS is on a 128 GB SSD connected through USB3. These SSD are pretty cheap nowadays and (likely?) more resilient than sdcards…

Engywuck, (edited )

Don’t care. I’ll keep using it. By the way, Mozilla aren’t the saints you may think they are:

old.reddit.com/…/can_someone_explain_why_mozillas…

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitchell_Baker#Negative_sal…

techrights.org/o/2022/02/17/mozilla-salaries/

news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28116853

calpaterson.com/mozilla.html

I’d rather stop to use the web altogether before giving scummy Mozilla any market share again.

Engywuck,

No, the links about Mozilla show how corrupt their directives are. Peole are so eager to scrutiny competing browsers/company and their forgive every shit Mozilla or their board do.

By the way, who cares about Brave’s CEO? I don’t agree with his political views, but for me their browser it’s the best out there at the moment and the company itself isn’t politically active at all.

Did you ask any other Mozilla employee what their political views are, by the way? How can you be sure that all of them are “good persons”? Do you buy your stuff on Amazon, by any chance, knowing how evil thy are? Are you sure that your grocery store’s owner/your mechanic/your doctor/etc. isn’t an homophobe or a bad person? Please, be coherent and go and ask all the people you make deals with what their political views are.

Engywuck,

Mozilla itself has provento be nothing but a cash grab, at this point. And people keep falling for it (less and less people over time, fortunately).

Engywuck,

I’m not upset. I may have been unclear. I just find funny that people in the (F)OSS/Linux community (which I’m clearly part of) are very prone to scrutinize Brave and other companies, while they pretend not to see what’s going on at Mozilla, which seems to always get a free pass.

Engywuck,

I used to like Firefox (been using is since 2002ish…). But after a lot feature removals and, last but not least, the ugly UI redesign (despite the negative feedback in the nightly/beta phase) I just jumped ship. I’m not going to waste my time fixing it with CSSs, unfucking what Mozilla did wrong. Anyway, Brave is just faster, it performs better and has a no-shit UI.

This, plus the disappointment I’ve had with Mozilla, gives me exactly 0 reason to go back.

Engywuck,

That’s fine. I was just replying to your comment. Have a nice day.

Engywuck,

In-built adblockers aren’t going to be affected by MV3 anyway. They are not extensions, thus Google is powerless there.

Engywuck,

OP has literally said that YT didn’t block them/didnt show any ads while using Vivaldi… As far I’m concerned, I couldn’t care less. I don’t use YT at all.

Engywuck,

Just write some “unpopular” comment and a lot of people will be there for you.

Engywuck, (edited )

I sincerely don’t understand your comment. I’ve been insulted for saying that I dislike a particular browser, for instance.

Engywuck,

Ah, shit. I didn’t get it, sorry.

Engywuck,

I’m not talking about CP or racist/sexist shit, obviously.

Engywuck,

And here I am, completely ignoring YT and reading blogs, instead.

Engywuck,

I mean, it depends. Tutorials, for instance, when I need some info on something to fix, either physically or informatically (e.g., hosting and network stuff). Video format is utterly time expensive for this kind of stuff. I avoid it like the plague. For entertainment, I have a couple of subscriptions a la Netflix. I’m not interested at all in watching/listening “content creators”.

Engywuck,

Ah, yes, the good old goatse, among other amenities.

Reported for spam, btw.

Engywuck,

Also Only office, which appears to have the best compatibility with MS documents (although in my particular case I find it a bit cumbersome).

Engywuck,

One can use Zotero ad Mendeley plugins for bibliography, btw.

Engywuck,

TBH, Japanese format makes sense when you use it to name files/directories, as sorting by “name” is equivalenti to sorting by “last modified”.

Engywuck,

I’m actually italian, lol, but that was a genuine typo.

Engywuck,

Amazing

Engywuck,

Nor for gaming, nor for video… Basically, LCD all the way.

Engywuck,

AdGuard (system wide), PiHole, inbuilt adblockers are still there and won’t be affected by this. Who cares.

Engywuck,

Adguard and pihole rely on DNS redirects - googs has already implemented “secure DNS” for Chrome in Android, which circumvents network level/local DNS by connecting to a Google owned DNS, serving content using those listings instead.

You can chose many different neutral DNS in AdGuard/Pihole and also in Android (quad9, for instance). In Android I use my own AdGuard Home instance as my DoT server.

They’ll likely bring this to all flavors of Chrome.

Inbuilt AdBlockers work well and wont’ be affected by MV3, as they are not extensions. Don’t spread FUD.

Yes, one should use Firefox.

No need to be so masochistic and I wouldn’t use it regardlessly. I don’t want to give undeserved market share to corrupt Mozilla Corp. I’d rather watch ads. But, as I said, there’s no need for that, because between DNS blocker and inbuilt adblockers of better browsers, I haven’t seen a single fucking ad in ages.

Engywuck,

Same. Since… forever I maybe use youtube once or twice per year. There’s nothing interesting for me there that I can’t find somewhere else, and often in written (not video form), which is less time consuming and less prone to useless “padding” for “monetization”.

Engywuck,

This could should be my fucking house.

Engywuck,

Especially if it’s reggaeton… Oh, wait. Nevermind. You wrote “music”…

Engywuck,

I just don’t use YT. I’m not interested on stuff there. I much prefer blogs or the likes.

Engywuck, (edited )

There is a 0% chance you were an adult in the early 2000s lol

I’m 49, dude. And the meme isn’t about “the internet”. It is literally about the difference between people sharing stuff back then and “creating content” today. Shitty internet parts have always been shitty, but at least people didn’t try to monetize even their beloved ones’ death.

Engywuck, (edited )

Again, the meme is not about the internet in 2000s. It is just about people sharing out of fun vs. “creators” wanting to monetize every little shit.

Engywuck,

I considered myself a pretty “normal guy” back then and paid my domain/hosting and had a hand-written HTML+js blog/website with no ads… And plenty of “normal people” used to do that, even if it was a much smaller percentage of internetizens than nowadays.

Engywuck,

That’s really cool!

Engywuck,

“Upgrading” a RedHat 5.2 install with a Mandrake 6.0 disk or the opposite, can’t remember exactly now. It was 1999 or 2000.
