Dalek_Thal, in So, I accidently won the game. A warning...
@Dalek_Thal@aussie.zone avatar

FWIW, you’re correct; you haven’t finished Act 2, and you actually got the bad ending.

Honestly such a great game, I really appreciate that a deus ex machina like that is an option and will just end the game; it fits in quite nicely with how D&D itself works

He gets the crap I’m never going to use and he likes it.

Thebazilly, in I'll see what I can do, Gale.

You’re getting the Dancing Lights necklace whether you like it or not, Gale.

exscape, in Does it matter who leads my party?
@exscape@kbin.social avatar

I think most replies are missing the main point OP is asking about.

The answer is yes, it matters. I started a run as Gale to learn the basics of the UI prior to starting playing. You learn an important (secret, to begin with) detail about Gale (a certain condition) as you as your exit the nautiloid.

On the other hand, playing as a custom character, he first told me about that 15 hours in, and even then only in very vague terms and refused to give more details when pressed.

So when you start as an origin characters, you really "are" that character. When they're just a companion, they'll keep secrets from you.

Laticauda, in Also, the holiday you're celebrating has creepy pagan roots

Fun fact, that’s not actually true, lol. The Ring around the Rosie thing regarding the Black Plague is a myth, turns out.

verysoft, in Why did Baldur's Gate 3 blow up? Larian lead writer says it's thanks to "a big gamble" with CRPG standards

They had massive success with Divinity, the ground work already laid out. They bought rights to a big IP, kept to their Divinity formula and actually spent on marketing. Plus it happened to come at the right time when people needed the RPG itch scratched.

Kichae,

D&D is also as big as its ever been, especially with a latent audience of viewers who maybe don't play very often, and at a time when there aren't enough DMs for everyone who wants to play to find a table. Plus, Baldur's Gate is prime 30-year-nostalgia-cycle bait for millennial+ PC gamers.

Fapper_McFapper, in Why did Baldur's Gate 3 blow up? Larian lead writer says it's thanks to "a big gamble" with CRPG standards

I purchased BG3 after I heard that the devs did not include micro transactions. I simply purchased it to support the devs, I had no intentions of playing it. But, I have a Steam Deck and decided to download it and just try it out. I am 30 hours into the game and I don’t have the physical or mental ability to put this game down. Please send help. Thank you Larian for taking video games back to their roots.

ulu_mulu, in Why did Baldur's Gate 3 blow up? Larian lead writer says it's thanks to "a big gamble" with CRPG standards

This game gives me the same vibes as Bioware games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, I was craving for something like this, without the microtransactions and gambling bullshit infesting most modern games.

I’m not fond of DnD mechanics but it’s ok, it’s worth it nonetheless, BG3 is truly spectacular.

stopthatgirl7,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

The BioWare vibes are exactly why I’m loving this game so much. Larian was never in my radar before, because I just can’t get into isometric games for some reason, but they definitely are now. Whatever they put out next, I’m probably going to get.

Harrison,

It’s a direct sequel to a bioware game.

@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

That’s a good question… I knew it was in early access but I kept just hearing negative shit about it and it fell off my radar until it just exploded again because of the finalized release. The things I see it praised for it tells me all y’all youngsters need to get on GOG and get the old classics and see just how much better those games are to most shit that comes out now. The old farts like me want those, but to look like games these days. BG3 did that. And it’s amazing.

I asked Gale to show me some magic now that shithead Withers is telling everyone that Gale is my “bosom companion”.

Holodeck_Moriarty, in Why did Baldur's Gate 3 blow up? Larian lead writer says it's thanks to "a big gamble" with CRPG standards

Trusting your audience to appreciate the depth of work that isn’t just flashy graphics, plus respecting players by not filling it with micro transactions.

People are desperate for games with some heart.

fsxylo, in Wasn't worth the encumbrance

I’m playing a self serving character so I can understand selfish. What I can’t stand is how stupid he is.

PC: “Ok let’s save this guy so we can get a magical item to make our quest much much easier.”

Astarion: “UGH helping people is for SQUARES.”

If I didn’t need him for stealth my character would have killed him by now for his whining. Especially after he dissed my character by saying he has “standards”.

Glide, in Baldur's Gate 3 Actor Mocks Lae'zel Haters In Character

I get that Fae’run has racial abilities built into its design, but ya’ll real in here trying to defend indoctrinated, active brainwashing and racism.

Lae’zel is your weak of ego, racist uncle; everything different offends her, and any evidence that she is wrong must be conspiracy. Even when faced with everything Vlaakith is doing wrong, you’re met with a series of mental gymnastics: “No, it must be the Doctor!” “Well it has to be THIS Creche, they’re lying about Vlaakith’s wishes!”

Even when you finally get through to her and she agrees to turn on Vlaakith, she spends the entire next act droning on about her new favorite religious figure/political leader. She’s functionally incapable of living for anyone other than a perceived god-king, and I’m shocked that doesn’t genuinely disgust more people.

Garden_Ramsay,

When you frame it a certain way of course it sounds awful. Let me try the opposite.

Lae’zel has been indoctrinated since birth by a crazy religious and xenophobic culture. The second she’s told she’s being lied to she doesn’t believe anyone because people don’t change their mind about their entire belief system through one line of dialogue from a person she just met.

However after a few more hard facts being shown to her, such as said religious culture trying to kill her and being lied to by the head of said fanatics, she realizes all of her people are actually indoctrinated slaves and starts to fight for the future of her people by rallying around the one person who can actually do something to stop it all.

Not sure why her breaking away from the brainwashing and indoctrination and trying to help free her people after seeing the truth is a bad thing here? Also fun fact, if Orpheus turns into a mind flayer and dies at the end she goes to free her people anyway, it wasn’t just about him. She didn’t just become a zealot following a new person, she became dedicated to freeing her people. Orpheus has that capability so she wants to free him.

jinarched, in Well, that sadly didn’t take long.
