pyrflie, in Why do the guards support the Tiefling child thieves ring? (Spoilers)

This stuff is all coded as Faction based and the Tiefling Children Thieves belong to the Tiefling Refugee Faction. Your character is outside of that faction and is breaking and entering as far as the Hellwalker guards are concerned.

It’s a little more complex than that in truth but if you view all guards in a similar light their actions make sense.

platysalty, in I play with god mode on and i am not ashamed

You do you, man. Meanwhile my headcanon is that the tadpole gives me time powers while I save scum.

stopthatgirl7, in I play with god mode on and i am not ashamed
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

I mean, ok? I’m playing on baby beginner mode because I don’t know wtf I’m doing and have never played DnD before and I’m terrible at tactical, overhead-style combat. You do you?

forgotaboutlaye,

As someone who is terrible at turn based CRPGs, I've found the explorer mode to be just perfect for me. I hit a skillwall imediately after fort joy in DOS2 on the easiest setting, so I was really pleasantly surprised.

Millie, in Baldur's Gate 3 minmaxer finds terrifying 240 damage-per-turn Monk build, carrying on D&D's long tradition of rules-based ultraviolence

I’ve been running a githyanki monk wizard and I love it. I can use medium armor and swords. I’m playing it as like a secret Zerth convert. It’s a better gish then eldritch knight or arcane trickster.

jackfrost, in Baldur's Gate 3 minmaxer finds terrifying 240 damage-per-turn Monk build, carrying on D&D's long tradition of rules-based ultraviolence

Monks in D&D are no joke. I’ve gotten torn up by them before. That class has actually been around since the very beginning. I think I might replay as one.

ayth, in I don't understand how Thieves' Tools work in this game

It doesn’t consume on reroll. It consumes on fail. So you fail, one is used, and it’s showing you how many you have left to keep trying.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@pawb.social avatar

No but like, sometimes you’ll succeed a roll and a message will pop up going “THIEVES’ TOOLS USED”

It seems to happen when I roll something that’s just a bit more than the DC, so like, a lock that needs 20 and I’ll roll 21, it gets consumed. Whereas it seems to happen less when rolling like 10 more than I need.

But then sometimes even this observation doesn’t seem to apply.

Skyhighatrist,

You use thieves tools every time, but they break if you fail. That’s the easiest way to think about it. That message popping up doesn’t correspond with breaking a thieves tools in my experience. So you get the message, but the total available remains the same.

dreadgoat, in Do you roll with failures or do you load and try for your "expected" outcome?
@dreadgoat@kbin.social avatar

If we're talking specifically about dice rolls, I generally accept failures. But I absolutely save-scum to get around anything I perceive as "videogame bullshit" such as an unexpected scene triggering a conversation on a character I would NEVER want having that conversation, even if they pass the rolls it feels icky to have someone like Lae'zel playing diplomat.

Aurenkin,

I feel like this is one of the aspects of DnD the game doesn’t do a great job of. In the tabletop you sometimes have one character handling the conversation but you can usually switch pretty easily. Like the paladin could be talking to someone and fail to persuade them, then the barbarian steps in to intimidate or something.

2nsfw2furious,

Exactly the same here. Did I somehow click something behind the camera, causing my moron to run directly at the giant enemy crab I just managed to carefully avoid? Yeah I’ll reload.

Same if it’s a dialogue option I (or the NPC I’m talking to) clearly misunderstood. In tabletop or real life it could be cleared up by “no, party member, I only told the bad guy I’d help him as a lie” even if it added a persuasion or deception check. In game, there’s just no dialogue option to say “sorry, i didn’t mean it that way” in most situations. See also: accidentally romancing the wrong person as many players apparently do

dragoness,

Yea I had an instance of this as well. “I totally agree to do this evil thing in your place, leave it up to me guys go have a drink on me” was a lie. I couldn’t make up the disapproval from 2 other party members even when I saved the person afterwards.

2nsfw2furious,

At this point I basically assume that if something doesn’t have a deception check attached, friends and foes will both believe it 100%

dragoness,

You know what that’s probably correct. I will look out for that going forward.

pyrflie, in Can I make Astarion steal things for little consequence?

There is no hard coded consequence. “Attitude” is single character.

That said if he is in your party there is a chance he will be caught for some Dialogs and this will count against him by region.

There are more than a few checks that if he is the last damage dealer in an encounter he will initiate dialog. Regardless of if he is the MC.

goforliftoff, in In 15 hours I barged into a barn where two monsters were having sex, accidentally became worshiped by fish people and lost my eye to an amateur surgeon.

Possible Act 1 Spoilers re: Goblin CampI managed to get into the Goblin Camp temple without killing anyone outside the big front doors. Once inside, I ended up killing everyone. When I tried to walk back out the front door, everyone went hostile. I ran back in and they didn’t follow, which was odd, but okay. I didn’t think I’d be able to beat the mass horde outside in a giant melee battle, so instead I blessed, bard songed, and sanctuaried Asterion and gave him the misty step necklace. He walked outside by himself and was beset by everyone, but he managed to dash, misty step, and hide his way to safety. From there, he poked around the edges, picking off single foes with his long bow and causing some chaos before sneaking back into the shadows. On my third probe, though, I got careless, and it looked like he might get overrun. Then the other three emerged into a now empty courtyard with the goblins all looking away. Wiped out the rest of the goblins and cleared the whole camp. Ultimately, my favorite part of this whole thing is imagining my PC bard telling Asterion inside the temple, “So, I know you’re not going to like this, but I’ve got a plan to get us out of here…”

CrumbleNeedy, in If Baldur’s Gate 3’s Lae'zel Were Male Fans ‘Would Be More Forgiving’, Dragon Age Co-Creator Says

lae’zel is perfect - well written, well voiced, a bit tanky, adds tension. there’s nothing to forgive. boy gamers are notoriously sexist. this is their problem, not larian’s.

Cylusthevirus,
@Cylusthevirus@kbin.social avatar

She's a very well written abrasive, abusive, xenophobic, domineering space Nazi. Which, I mean, yeah cool I just don't want to be around her. In fairness I hate Astarion more and find Shadowheart obnoxious to the point that I rerolled cleric just to not have her around. I'm 50-50 on Vampire Twink vs. Emo Priestess being more annoying to talk to, but at least twinky does his job well and provides some useful burst damage. My cleric does a much better job as a healer and support caster.

Aurenkin, in My hopes for DLC

I kinda hope they go the old school route with something like Throne of Bhaal for BG2 with an additional act and more high level abilities. Bit early yet though, given the success I’m sure we have great things to look forward to no matter what Larian decides to do next.

yA3xAKQMbq, in In 15 hours I barged into a barn where two monsters were having sex, accidentally became worshiped by fish people and lost my eye to an amateur surgeon.

Well I guess „the windmill incident“ isn’t really a spoiler anymore, but that one was fun as well.

„Oh. There is… another switch. And it says… ah, yeah I guess that makes sense. Mh. Well that’s unfortunate now, isn’t it… … SORRY!“

Well, I’ve got fish people to look forward to still it seems!

Cavemanfreak, in Well, that sadly didn’t take long.

It seems to be gone now at least!

Shalakushka, in Baldur's Gate 3 is PC Gamer's highest scoring game in 16 years. Here's why
@Shalakushka@kbin.social avatar

It's so refreshing to see an RPG that isn't afraid to be an RPG. It's not trying to twist and contort D&D into Call of Duty, it knows what it is and is proud of that. Games don't have to be dead simple and text free to be successful. Games don't have to have big in game stores or battle passes to be successful. They just have to be complete, an earnest attempt at a creative vision. I would take a game that tries something ambitious and very occasionally stumbles like this one over the most competent trend chaser any day.
