I think most replies are missing the main point OP is asking about.
The answer is yes, it matters. I started a run as Gale to learn the basics of the UI prior to starting playing. You learn an important (secret, to begin with) detail about Gale (a certain condition) as you as your exit the nautiloid.
On the other hand, playing as a custom character, he first told me about that 15 hours in, and even then only in very vague terms and refused to give more details when pressed.
So when you start as an origin characters, you really "are" that character. When they're just a companion, they'll keep secrets from you.
I purchased BG3 after I heard that the devs did not include micro transactions. I simply purchased it to support the devs, I had no intentions of playing it. But, I have a Steam Deck and decided to download it and just try it out. I am 30 hours into the game and I don’t have the physical or mental ability to put this game down. Please send help. Thank you Larian for taking video games back to their roots.
That’s a good question… I knew it was in early access but I kept just hearing negative shit about it and it fell off my radar until it just exploded again because of the finalized release. The things I see it praised for it tells me all y’all youngsters need to get on GOG and get the old classics and see just how much better those games are to most shit that comes out now. The old farts like me want those, but to look like games these days. BG3 did that. And it’s amazing.
Trusting your audience to appreciate the depth of work that isn’t just flashy graphics, plus respecting players by not filling it with micro transactions.
I’m playing a self serving character so I can understand selfish. What I can’t stand is how stupid he is.
PC: “Ok let’s save this guy so we can get a magical item to make our quest much much easier.”
Astarion: “UGH helping people is for SQUARES.”
If I didn’t need him for stealth my character would have killed him by now for his whining. Especially after he dissed my character by saying he has “standards”.
I don’t love spiritual weapon, it’s too slow in both damage output and repositioning. It’s much better in BG3 though because you can abuse long rest if you want to, so the slot doesn’t matter, and because it is bonus and not concentration it practically feels free.
Honestly I kind of agree with the Rogue here, Shadow heart keeps insisting I trust her, but won’t tell me anything about her and warns me not to trust other people. I feel like this is gaslighting
Karlach is fun. Though I feel like I’m missing out on most of her story and personality by playing her as main, since they made the main almost a silent protagonist compared to Divinity 2. :/
I decided on only having a party of prefabbed characters, which I like. There’s a nice weave of narratives, main character aside (aside from the occasional frown or rare smile)
