Perfect halloween game. Highly recommended.

There’s free DLC too.

A repeat, but it’s a good game.
Next week’s SpellDrifter looks like it’s not my cup of tea (Steam link).

Murder By Numbers was so fun, hope more people try it

smeg, to freegames in [Epic Games] Destiny 2: Legacy Collection (2023)

Is this an expansion bundle, an actual game, some levels, some cosmetics, or what?

Domiku,

It says on the store page that it “Requires Base Game.”

smeg,

OK, in that case I’ll take this down if it’s not actually a free game

TheRtRevKaiser,
@TheRtRevKaiser@beehaw.org avatar

Base Destiny 2 is free.

smeg,

Free to play though, as in it’s always free so we don’t need a post here too grab it while you can, right?

TheRtRevKaiser,
@TheRtRevKaiser@beehaw.org avatar

I believe so, yeah. The base game is free and the expansions are (usually) not. This expansion pack is like, $60 USD on Steam right now.

mp3, (edited )
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

It requires the base game (which is free)

and adds several paid expansions as well as some extras

That collection is normally priced at $59.99

smeg,

In-game items, cosmetics, expansions and the like aren’t really what this community is for, I’m trying to keep it to full games that you can claim. There are so many free to play games that give away extras and I don’t want that to drown out the full games. Are you alright if I remove this post?

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

I dunno, it’s the current giveaway on Epic Games for the next week, up to you…

smeg,

I assume it’s not epic’s normal weekly giveaway as they usually do that on Thursday, but the consensus seems to be that this is basically a proper game so happy to leave it up

Telorand,

FWIW, while Destiny 2 is free to play, the actual game is in the expansions. D2 is basically a playable demo with add-on campaigns that you have to buy.

smeg,

Oh interesting, so is this the full game then? Or is it just a little extra bit of demo?

ram,
@ram@bookwormstory.social avatar

The expansions are dozen hour campaigns and are the game. I think a good litmus would be whether a title has a HowLongToBeat page, which this legacy collection of expansions has three.

howlongtobeat.com/game/84960
howlongtobeat.com/game/97163
howlongtobeat.com/game/69475

While these require a base-game to play, expansions on MMO-style games are quasi-games unto themselves. It’s kinda difficult to explain, but the base game isn’t really actively updated and gets no new content while campaign gets added by these expacs. Expacs are what players of these games wait for beyond anything.

smeg,

OK fair, well if people think it’s a proper game then happy to leave it up!

Is it worth playing casually on your own or is it one of those games where you need a group and to devote your life to it?

ram,
@ram@bookwormstory.social avatar

End-game is party-based raids, but it’s fine to go through casually for the campaign as a solo player.

LordTrychon, to freegames in [Epic Games] Mighty Fight Federation

Thank you. I have gotten out of the habit of claiming these since leaving reddit…

Just be careful I noticed a couple of paid for games had been added into my ‘cart’ in the Epic Games Launcher. No idea where they came from. Anyone else notice this?

rikudou,
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

Haven’t happened to me.

alister667,

It might have been me doing something stupid, like adding two free games, but not checking out, then discovering them long after the offer has expired! Thanks.

Looks like this was given away by Amazon Prime Gaming some time ago. Already have it in my library.

Both games look great though. I’m a sucker for a) artsy games b) platformers

clay_pidgin, to games in 911 Operator free on Epic Games

I’ve played this on mobile. It’s OK. I didn’t feel like it had much depth.

rikudou,
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

Same here, except I played it on Switch. It was fun for ~1 hour but then it was very repetitive.

thecrotch,

Playing it for real is boring, telling 911 callers to deal with the problem themselves and listening to them get injured is fun for like 5 minutes

Wow, I remember playing this waaaaaay back in the day on PC. And then I heard it was coming to the 3ds and got it there.

Gullible, to games in Cave Story+ free on EGS

If you haven’t played it, do it. It is to metroidvanias what Mario is to platformers. Ridiculously influential game.

I played the crap out of the original release. Does + offer anything more than higher resolution graphics?

MrScottyTay,

I might be wrong but I think it has a different translation script

it has remastered music aswell iirc

M500, to PCGaming in [Epic Games] Cave Story+ | Free / 100% Off

This is an amazing game. I played it a bunch. My understanding is that this game was made by since Japanese student by himself.

It was a free game, but they remastered it at least once, but I think they did it twice.

It’s a Metroidvania style game.

It has a near mechanic where you’re weapon gets more powerful the longer you go without getting hit.

It’s pretty easy to power up your gun, so it’s not a huge loss if you do get hit. The music is also pretty decent.

@ampersandrew Just use Heroic Launcher, you get to enjoy whatever Epic games you have, without having to use their launcher. Plus it works with GOG games as well.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

I'll use that for things I already have in my library, either from my Windows days or from giveaways, but I'm not going to spend money in their stores when they don't officially support me as a customer. Unofficial launchers like this could be broken by those storefronts at any time, and they were never guaranteed to work for me. GOG fares better than Epic in this regard, since they do sell Linux games, but I want official cloud saves and automatic updates as well.
