All signs point to that program being a failure for them, which is why the exclusivity offers and announcements started drying up, but I guess this is them trying a revised strategy.
Good for the devs who need the money but as a customer Steam just provides more, and if not Steam, GOG is DRM-free and ItchIO enables smallers indies to get their games out there. Epic isn't even on my list of places to buy. The only thing I bought in Epic, funny enough, was Fortnite Save the World, and I didn't get much out of that.
Destiny has been losing players left and right thanks to decisions they’ve made lately, and I can’t help but see this as a desperate attempt to inflate their player numbers. They’ve said in the past that changes take months to roll through, so even if they had realized their mistake last season, they’d still have at least 3 months before they could fix it at this point.
I’m not convinced they are listening to the community, though.
In-game items, cosmetics, expansions and the like aren’t really what this community is for, I’m trying to keep it to full games that you can claim. There are so many free to play games that give away extras and I don’t want that to drown out the full games. Are you alright if I remove this post?
I assume it’s not epic’s normal weekly giveaway as they usually do that on Thursday, but the consensus seems to be that this is basically a proper game so happy to leave it up
FWIW, while Destiny 2 is free to play, the actual game is in the expansions. D2 is basically a playable demo with add-on campaigns that you have to buy.
The expansions are dozen hour campaigns and are the game. I think a good litmus would be whether a title has a HowLongToBeat page, which this legacy collection of expansions has three.
While these require a base-game to play, expansions on MMO-style games are quasi-games unto themselves. It’s kinda difficult to explain, but the base game isn’t really actively updated and gets no new content while campaign gets added by these expacs. Expacs are what players of these games wait for beyond anything.
@rikudou have you done something to piss off the bots? Both of your posts immediately received 3 downvotes!
If anyone downvoting wants to comment here and explain why this post (which is literally the most appropriate post for this community) was worthy of that then I’d love to know!
I checked and no bots, seems to be general Epic hate. Gonna block those people anyway, nothing of value will be lost. Here they are, if you wish to ban people who downvote free games in a free game community:
Oh interesting, as an instance admin can you see who’s upvoting and downvoting then?
I’m not going to ban anyone, you can upvote and downvote whatever you want even if it’s stupid, I just wanted to know their reasoning and if they knew they could just block/hide this community if they didn’t like it. I don’t know if it would matter anyway as none of those accounts have posted anything for months.
No one was banned, it’s not my community to manage. I don’t believe this could be considered doxxing.
There’s also no reason to downvote content that perfectly fits the community. Perhaps them and me are unreasonable? Or, more likely, all of us have some reasons for our actions.
This is not a matter of opinion, there’s nothing to have opinion about. To cite the community sidebar:
This is a place to post limited-time giveaways of full video games that are then yours to keep forever at no cost (i.e. this is not for steam sales, free-to-play games, free weekends, competition giveaways, or free in-game items!)
There’s nothing to disagree with in my post, my post is not an opinion.
What is an opinion is my suggestion to ban them. As you can see, the mod disagreed and didn’t do it. And that was it. That’s what an exchange of opinions looks like. If you disagree with facts (and I mean true objective facts, not my opinions), I have no problem with calling you out publicly. Hopefully I explained it enough.

Alright seems like I misinterpreted the following statement from your original comment.
Gonna block those people anyway

I still don’t think one should expose them for downvoting and given Lemmy’s design I’d consider this abuse of the access rights of an admin as most users do not expect their votes to be public. The downvoters may have their reason to downvote and it is up to them to (or not to) explain themselves.
Also, like I said, you could have communicated this with the community mod over a non-public medium.
Hopefully I explained it enough.
I get it but I wholeheartedly disagree with your point of view.
Just be careful I noticed a couple of paid for games had been added into my ‘cart’ in the Epic Games Launcher. No idea where they came from. Anyone else notice this?
It might have been me doing something stupid, like adding two free games, but not checking out, then discovering them long after the offer has expired! Thanks.
