xantoxis,

Oregon has weird liquor laws. Taprooms that only sell beer and can’t serve spirits are actually pretty common, and they’ll have fancy beers brewed in a room behind the counter. (Most of them like to highlight the existence of the brewery by making it visible to the rest of the room.) People don’t usually call em “beer bars” but that’s exactly what they are.

xantoxis,

You’ve literally heard almost all of it. She mentions there being drugs, and there’s a couple places where she talks about having to escape the rape gangs. I think maybe one brief flashback in a dark cave. AFAIR there was no explanation. I think it was meant to explain why she’s a “badass”, but everyone in Star Trek is a badass and they didn’t need rape gangs to explain it.

xantoxis,

I installed Slackware in 1994 or so. Floppy. Disks.

Fast forward almost 30 years and I’m still trying new (to me) distros. Proxmox VE this time.

xantoxis,

Proxmox VE is a packaging of Linux as an operating system. It is a distribution. Straight from the wikipedia page:

It is a Debian-based Linux distribution with a modified Ubuntu LTS kernel[7] and allows deployment and management of virtual machines and containers.[8][9]

Cool way to respond to a comment btw:

Am I taking crazy pills?

The VMs I’m running in Proxmox are also Linux, but that’s less interesting to me.

xantoxis,

Why is this colossal? The judge already ruled he committed fraud, are we pretending that he lied about his finances to convince ponies to let him brush their hair? What other intent could there be besides getting more money?

xantoxis,

Fair enough, time certainly is of the essence in these cases. We got about a year to put this man somewhere he can’t hurt anyone else.

xantoxis, (edited )

Is she bi? I’m struggling to think of any male romantic attachment she’s had, or any attraction she’s expressed that wasn’t towards a woman.

Edit: Yep, got it, lots of examples here, thank you!

xantoxis,

OK, that scene definitely had some tension

xantoxis,

Oh damn you’re right! She also calls Ny’aal a “big ol’ hunk of ham steak” in the current season.

xantoxis,

Loooooooooooool as if there was a single fuckin thing on Facebook I wanted to see badly enough to disable my ad blocker.

xantoxis,

Since it’s the mirror universe it should say Ketracel White: At least once

xantoxis,

Also means you can’t reference anything earlier than the late Pleistocene.

xantoxis,

How do you think people learn to love fascism? From their fucking parents. Boomers raised generations of people who will trash the world just like them. Your generation is not immune.

xantoxis,

I mean, it’s literally a store, this is not a space where you’ll be free from ads.

I’m going with–not in the top 10 of terrible things Google is doing lately.

But sure, ok, it sucks.

xantoxis,

Is bottom-left a meme? And anyway two of those are the same character.

xantoxis,

TBH, leaving it unlocked is a great way to hedge your bets if you’re an NCDOT employee who wants to put N***** on a sign

xantoxis,

Have you ever been a successful plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit? Those fries are worth more than you would have gotten.

xantoxis,

Oh for fuck’s sake, just turn on 2FA

xantoxis,

“I quit traditional medicine to–”

Oh, nobody wanted to hire you as a doctor because you’re fucking crazy, got it.

Daily Mail, this doesn’t belong here.

xantoxis,

Venture capital isn’t “loaning money” though. The structure of the deal is fundamentally different from the terms you’d get from the bank. The bank wants principal + interest. VC wants people in your boardroom and a share of the company itself.

IDK if this difference seems subtle, but it’s massive when it comes to the outcome of any company that currently makes a decent product and then gets tainted by the VC poison.

And yes, I agree that a standard loan is perfectly okay. Without that share of the company on the table, the lender can’t steer the company off a cliff to increase its profits.

It has a demo, worth checking out.

Edit: never mind, I guess it doesn’t any more

Folks I’m pretty sure the image being mocked is an actual joke, not, like, a really poorly-made list of actual companies. When you mock an intentional joke, the mockery points back at you.

xantoxis,

lmao i think this one’s my favorite

xantoxis,

It’s weird that it’s a round number

Gettin real goddamn tired of dogs

I like dogs like I like toddlers. It’s fun to hang out with other people’s for a while, but ultimately they’re annoying, loud, and make a mess. I feel like in the past 10 years or so, dog owners have become increasingly convinced that everyone thinks their slobbering, untrained mutt is god’s gift to everyone, and expects...

xantoxis,

Gotta hand it to you man, very few posts have belonged in this community more than this one

xantoxis,

Now, I do like candy corn, but if that’s the favorite candy in your whole state, there’s something wrong with your state

xantoxis,

Just supports the idea that something’s wrong down there. Candy’s not free, but it ain’t expensive, either. If all your entire state can afford is candy corn…?

xantoxis,

Not me. I can afford 5 more dollars. I get the one I’d be excited about as a kid.

xantoxis,

Progress, indeed.

  • her chair is more comfortable
  • her clothing is less restrictive, owing to reduced standards of obedience to authority imposed on women
  • what she’s reading is her own choice
  • notice how the bible woman has to sit? That’s because she’s shorter. Improved nutritional standards mean the 1915 woman is better-fed, and as a result, is taller
xantoxis,

One key detail of that is that the figs contain the bodies of that type of wasp, so you’re technically still eating an animal if you’re not extremely careful.

xantoxis,

In fairness to Trump, he’s been pretty busy defending himself from a record number of indictments. Gets in the way of political participation.

Elon Musk gives X employees one year to replace your bank - ‘You won’t need a bank account... it would blow my mind if we don’t have that rolled out by the end of next year.’ (www.theverge.com)

“If it involves money. It’ll be on our platform. Money or securities or whatever. So, it’s not just like send $20 to my friend. I’m talking about, like, you won’t need a bank account.”...

xantoxis,

Make the post office a bank

xantoxis,

He plans to ignore those regulations, quite obviously. He’s been ignoring laws and regulations in every company he touches. There’ll be about a month where a whole lot of people get scammed/lose access to their funds due to his mismanagement, then the federal government (as well as some state governments and at least a few other national governments) will threaten to shut him down. Then he’ll make some token gesture to obey the law. The government will back off, but the new platform will collapse anyway and he’ll quietly pull the plug, hoping it won’t show up in a news cycle.

xantoxis,

First of all, 2nd on the comment suggesting you just don’t smoke if you don’t like the experience. But if you enjoy anything about this situation–smoke less. Maybe you just need a puff or two to catch the right vibe. Or try edibles, or just CBD-based products. Point is, either stop doing the thing you don’t like, or do less of it ;-)

xantoxis,

xantoxis,

“I’m aware that consciousness still exists under general anesthesia, but the brain is no longer capable of forming memories, so have fun stabbing me with knives, I’m actually going to feel it!”

xantoxis,

Separately, is it still pain if you’re not conscious of it?

Doctors used to assert that babies didn’t feel pain, because 1) they couldn’t tell us about it, and 2) they didn’t remember it later. They would just not anesthetize babies. Of course, that endpoint of this line of reasoning is horrifying, but it’s still a fair question. When we say “pain” do we mean the firing of the nerves, or do we mean awareness of it?

xantoxis,

It’s allowed because they can do whatever they want. It’s their table and their cards. As long as they don’t welch on payouts that you’ve already earned, they can kick you out for any reason (except belonging to a protected class), or for no reason.

xantoxis,

They mostly don’t care unless you’re at the high roller table. And even then, unless you’re using a device to cheat, the most they can do is pay out your chips and escort you outside. It’s not a crime to count cards, but it’s still their table.

xantoxis,

Err, what? Do you want it to be illegal to kick someone out for wearing a swastika? That’s a “class” of people.

We use the law to protect marginalized people, not just any category of asshole we can think of.

xantoxis,

I just finished it, then went back for the bonus side quests so I could get the true ending.

I wished the writing was less childish, but like you, I really enjoyed the texture of the characters. They really do Garl right. The original final bossfight is laughably easy if you’ve learned how to use Serai, but the “true ending” final boss is more fun. Overall I’m 4/5 on it.

xantoxis,

I wish I could believe this was AI-generated.

xantoxis,

To say exclusively nice things, since I know that some day a weird bug is going to expose all of these to other people.

Why, how do you use it?

xantoxis,

Why is this stonetoss’s art style

xantoxis,

“Not news that he can spin” have you been in a coma the last 7 years

xantoxis,

It’s less that the wire hanger is an unknown icon of the abortion struggle (it isn’t), and more that the symbol is presented in an unclear way: does the slash mean “no abortions”? Or “no, abortions!” The thing is, both forced birth advocates and pro choice advocates would hate the wire hanger, just for different reasons.

xantoxis,

lmao true
