I really like Quillpad on mobile. I have my own Nextcloud instance and it works great. I only wish that Nextcloud Notes/Quillpad allowed for a few more levels in its notebook/notes hierarchy for better categorization.

I’ve tried Obsidian/Logseq with Folder Sync As a companion app and just didn’t like the clunkiness of it.

You can increase the vibration intensity in the steam deck settings. Have you maxed it out?

Maybe I’m not understanding the framing of the question, but if you have Immich running on the server why would you be using the Immich app on your phone to handle backing up?

Whatever I own on the Switch that I don’t want to (or can’t) buy again on the Deck.

Maybe I came to the channel late, after it’s prime, but I have never seen the value of LTT & affiliates.

The review videos have seemed sub par when cross checking against multiple reviewers.

The entertainment videos felt cringey even when they covered a subject I was interested in (PlayStation dev kits, other obscure tech)

It was a quick unsubscribe when I felt my time was getting wasted.

Steam for a few reasons:

  1. Ease of use with the Steam deck
  2. Prices are often cheaper, albeit often through sites like Fanatical/ Humble
  3. Synergizes with my only subscription, Humble Choice
  4. There is a lot of content missing from games on GOG compared to Steam. Most of it is trivial, but sometimes it is substantial. It has created a rhetoric about GOG customers being treated as second class citizens. Google Sheets

I used to try to buy my games at GOG where there wasn’t a significant financial difference. I liked what they were doing, especially with GOG Galaxy at the time. The pendulum swung back to Steam over time, and now I’m just not buying games any more.

I recommend posting on their GitHub discussions. It’s very active and helpful.

When you install games using this method, what do you do to install updates/patches?

Beeper Finally In Public Invite Stage! (refer.beeper.com)

If any of y’all were curious of Beeper when it came out (a Matrix backed chat app) but weren’t able to get an invite for whatever reason, then here ya go! Feel free to ask any questions about it if you got any! (No I don’t work for Beeper, just like this more than Element and self-hosting)

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

I am using the service, but there’s a lot I don’t like and I’m hoping to spin up my own matrix server and host their bridges on my own machine.

  1. Beeper cannot send View once messages/media. 2.View once media that is sent on native Signal and WhatsApp are viewable forever through Beeper.
  2. There is no way to delete chats/messages
  3. Read receipt settings are not respected in signal & WhatsApp, and read receipts are always sent.

Check your player settings on Android, and make sure that it is set to use the Integrated Player in the client settings.

I have a similar issue that when my monitors connected by display port are put to sleep, the computer treats it like they have been disconnected completely - and hence all my windows get shoved around.

This is with a laptop with its screen option, hooked up to a DP monitor by USB C adapter.

I would love to switch to DP but this prevents me.

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t have your specific port issue, but it sounds like the setup I have would get around your ISP port restrictions as use CloudFlare tunnels externally, LAN internally, and no ports open.

This is interesting, I hadn’t seen this from them before and I’m in the market for a new router! Does this play nicely with additional access points?

I have a couple Asus CT8’s that are dying on me, so I’d like to see if I can turn them in to AP’s. While I’d eventually like to get on to an OpnSense box I need a near term solution (as that will be a steep learning curve for me).

Is there a resource available that documents compatability?

Thanks so much to u/DSM-20 on the self-hosted Reddit for taking the time to connect and walk me through the Cloudflare setup (and then some!). The solution is:

  1. In NPM, set up a wildcard Let’s Encrypt certificate (e.g. *.domain.com), using a DNS challenge with Cloudflare as the DNS provider and an API token that is created in your Cloudflare profile that provides Zone:DNS:Edit permissions.
  2. In Cloudflare’s Zero Trust Dashboard, when setting up a public hostname (e.g. sub.domain.com) to point to the LAN IP of your reverse proxy (e.g. 192.192.192.2), the “Additional Application Setting -> TLS -> Origin Server Name” needs to be set the same as the public hostname you are setting up (e.g. sub.domain.com)

And that was it! After saving that application setting, the set up I had worked instantly.

There are some additional settings that can be included in the NPM Proxy Host config that expose the IP of the connected user instead of Cloudflare’s proxy IP.

I recently picked up a Neptune 3 Pro as my first printer. Went through the leveling and saw similar to you. Even after the Z height calibration… there are issues.

A print with a small footprint works fine, but when something covers most of the x axis I would find that the left side of the bed would print well and the right side of the bed would have gaps in the first layer.

Installed klipper, tried out it’s bed mesh calibration and increased the testing points to 12x12… Still similar issue. I’ll be sending it back.

I knew there were filament dryers, but having one that is a direct feed in to the printer is quite neat! Thank you for turning me on to this.

They are referring to using Matrix as a bridge to connect to IRC - not as a replacement - for the purpose of improving privacy.

Matter of opinion. I would rather have an empty feed than have to scroll past all the memes I have no interest in.

Is a plex subscription worth it?

I want to unlock the ability to view content on my mobile device. I can do that with a one-time purchase (payed with google opinion rewards) or with a subscription. I want to unlock the ability for my entire family though, across multiple devices. Do I have to pay the “one-time payment” for every device? If so, the plex...

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

I’ve run both, and I found both required about the same level of technical understanding for an in house setup.

I started with Plex as it worked nicer with my remote, then moved to Jellyfin when I picked up an Android TV. It was the hardware transcoding (without having to pay) that sealed the deal for me.

There’s no paradox. It says there is a risk, it is not substantial, and the benefits outweigh it.

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

Definitely. Their marketing speak may not have any holes in it but wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw them.

Neverwinter Nights. I was scraping by on the 800x600 resolution and lots of slowdowns. 2006 I built a new computer with a 1080x1080 LCD and turned on that glorious high resolution text option.

Why not try the warranty route first, as it does not preclude you from then attempting upgrades at a later time.

uninvitedguest,

Do you include Jellyseerr in your definition of *arr apps, because it’s more of an *err or even *rr.

But Jellyseerr/Overseerr are the main apps I would give someone non tech savvy to be able to add their own media.

I find a key part is setting up notifications so that they know when a request is available.

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t do this myself, but this community has made me aware of Stremio and a plugin for it called torrentio that connects to a (paid) downloader backend called Real Debrid. From the sounds of it, it seems to be a painless user experience for instantly streaming pretty much everything.

I use Jellyfin, Radarr/Sonarr/Bazarr/Jellyseerr/Torrents to play & acquire media. Building a library in advance works for me, but my SO is the “I just want to flick through a list, play something for a bit and if I don’t like it flip to something else random” type. Advanced curation doesn’t lend well to that user behavior, so I am going to explore making the switch.

But hey, Asus owns Acer so it all feels moot.

Pretty cool. I imagine this is very satisfying.

Working parents, how do you find time to game?

I grew up an avid gamer. But now, among my 50-hour work week, helping my kids with their math homework, grocery shopping, and house chores, I’m no longer able to find enough free time to really dive into a game. I mostly play casual games that I can drop in and out of but forget about the 40hr+ games requiring commitment....

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

I picked up a Switch thinking it would always be attracted to my TV. Maybe it was for a bit, but when my child came along the only way I used it was handheld and for spurts at a time.

That’s how I knew the Steam Deck was an instant buy for me - the pause/resume is key.

OP specifically mentioned moving away from Mullvad.

I just want one that will allow me to hide a posts so I’m not scrolling past the same things over and over. None of them do it.

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

All of those options.

A settings flag for “Hide read posts” A settings flag for “Mark upvoted/dowvoted posts as read” And a toggle on each post to hide/unhide. I use the feature so much that having it as a swipe action would be a dream (like archiving emails on mobile).

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

Which of these apps allows me to hide posts? At this point that is the only feature I care about.
