ultra,

You can use zellij for infinite scrollback. If ot takes too muxh space, use compact mode.

Also, I use konsole and it does have hyperlink support, just control-click the links.

ultra,

The new SteamOS is arch based, the old ones were debian-based. Also, since ubuntu is based on debian, Pop is also kind of debian based, fyi

Tips on running multiple distros together on my laptop?

Hello all, sorry for such a newbish question, as I should probably know how to properly partition a hard drive, but I really don’t know where to start. So what I’m looking to do is install a Debian distro, RHEL, and Arch. Want to go with Mint LMDE, Manjaro, and Fedora. I do not need very much storage, so I don’t think...

ultra,

Not really a solution to what you need, but you should consider distros other than manjaro, it does some shady stuff, has ddos’ed the AUR multiple times (even though the AUR is “unsupported”) and let the security certificates for their site expire (their solution: to turn back your clock to update the system). You should try endeavour instead.

ultra,
  1. Not outdated
  2. That’s the standard method
  3. What features?
  4. AFAIK it dods
  5. Just don’t install the old apps then.
  6. That’s literally why it was made. To distribute FOSS apps.

Help me find my tiling workflow?

I’m using a PaperWM which is a scrolling window manager extension for Gnome, and I love it! But it’s an extensive extension which means it is sometimes brittle. I’ve thought it would be nice to find a window manager that is natively designed with a workflow that I like. There don’t seem to be any actively-maintained...

ultra,

There’s a fork of newm that’s still maintained, you could try it.

ultra,

I’ve been interested in Nitrux ever since I read about it. I won’t switch to it because I went on the path of nix, but I’ll try it out on a spare PC.

The first 3 are the flag of Romania :) 🇹🇩

Linux 6.6 To Better Protect Against The Illicit Behavior Of NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver (www.phoronix.com)

Luis Chamberlain sent out the modules changes today for the Linux 6.6 merge window. Most notable with the modules update is a change that better builds up the defenses against NVIDIA’s proprietary kernel driver from using GPL-only symbols. Or in other words, bits that only true open-source drivers should be utilizing and not...

ultra,

The thing is, thes posts don’t have trump in their title…

ultra,

It would still be a better president than Trump

What's up with all these immutable distributions? What are the benefits and disadvantages of them?

For once I feel a little out of touch after I took a bit of a break from following the news to focus on studying, and suddenly everyone is talking about immutable distributions. What are they exactly? What are the benefits and the disadvantages of immutable systems?

ultra,

With tbis update system, I don’t understand why you can’t use your phone while doing it.

ultra,

Why can’t modern LCDs play NES gun games?

So would high refresh rate OLEDs work?

ultra,

We went from memes about Trump to memes about memes about Trump.

Thebnext logical step: memes about memes about memes about Trump!

ultra,

They basically force you to use snaps, that’s why it’s not good.

They also have ads in the package manager.

ultra,

You could do that on Reddit, too…

ultra,

Lmao how did you do that?

ultra,

I have a touchscreen laptop, and GNOME is 100% the most polished desktop I tried on it. IMO they have the best touchscreen implementation I’ve ever seen (even better than windows): the mouse pointer is separate from the touchscreen “pointer”. So if you tap the display somewhere, your mouse won’t go there.

ultra,

This doesn’t answer your question, but Pop!_OS isn’t abandoned. They’re just updating it only based on Ubuntu LTS versions, because they’re working on a new desktop.

ultra,

I use Instagram for talking to friends (and others my age from my country), and mastodon for online friends, and more tech-savvy people.

ultra,

AFAICT it used to be called Calckey

ultra,

They’re giving Ubuntu pro ads in the package manager, forcing you to use snap to install Firefox (by installing the snap when you use apt), and probably other stuff

ultra,

Wow, a 3 year old meme…
