Lesbians are consistently the demographic most likely to be supportive of trans folks. From the article:
Lesbians are the most likely to say they know a trans person (92%), and also the most likely to say they are “supportive” or “very supportive” of trans people (96%). That’s compared to 89% of LGBTQ+ people overall, and just 69% of non-LGBTQ+ people.

Petromasculinity is a well documented phenomena and when paired with the male tendency to dominate discussions and consolidate power in hierarchies (both are covered in the video in the form of studies wherein climate oriented groups are completely derailed by their male participants apparent need to talk the most and shut down group based discussion) we see a problem that is salient and familiar but applied to a crisis where the stakes could not be higher. For the men in this thread who are unwilling to even WATCH the video let alone consider the merits of its arguments, it is very likely that you are actively the problem, because the same tendencies that inspire that action are also used to silence voices that can be instrumental in actual change.
The video spends a long time on the phenomena wherein men tend to feel the need to dominate discussions regardless of their actual qualifications. It cites one experiment wherein 16 women and 9 men had an introductory conversation on the issue. During this conversation there were 6 active speakers. 4 men speaking for a total of 9 minutes and 2 women who spoke for a total of 1 minute. These tendencies are mostly due to individuals desires to claim leadership of a group but absolutely leave us “paralysed and unable to push for the necessary policy changes”. If you are interested in watching any portion of the video, you can skip to the part that I mentioned by going here.
I recently made a new account on lemmy.blahaj.zone, because I’ve been harassed and doxxed on my old account and I wanted a fresh start with a more lighthearted online identity that I could be more open about my gender identity on. I’d heard blahaj zone was good for trans people, so I made my account there. And yeah,...
Potentially relevant information from the other individual this person was arguing with:
Hey, Abigail here. I just want people to know the reason this guy got banned is likely because of a deleted comment not included in that thread. OP called me autistic for not liking politics. THAT kind of behavior is not acceptable on lemmy.blahaj.zone, so I reported the comment and let Ada handle it. Ada tried in good faith to reason with OP but it was clear they just wanted to fight. So yeah, they got banned. Ada’s a fantastic lady who’s been great at keeping the trolls at bay.

I just put this account together but had not considered that these promotion posts would effectively be spamming the communities themselves. Does anybody know if there is a way around this?

During this conversation there were 6 active speakers. 4 men speaking for a total of 9 minutes and 2 women who spoke for a total of 1 minute. Be the men’s issues conversation you want to see in the world. For the most part I just mirror content that is successful on the Reddit menslib sub and crosspost from feminism communities.
Be proactive in forming a productive discussion. Constructive criticism of our community is fine, but if you mainly criticize our approach, feminism, or other people’s efforts to solve gender issues, your post/comment will be removed.
Regardless rule 4 provides plenty of justification for removing these posts. Your argument seems to be that the topic “How the patriarchy contributes to climate chaos” is inappropriate for this community. If that is the case I think you have deeply misunderstood what this community is for. If you are otherwise taking offense to the title of the video I would like to point you to our stance on clickbait titles. In this case I have already editorialized the title to be more reflective of the video’s content. If you are very concerned by a lack of positive masculinity stories I think you should consider posting some, but I caution you not to include these sorts of criticisms about unrelated posts as that would violate rule 3.
As an example. This is the sort of post I’m talking about: tech.lgbt/
@bookstodon Not sure if this is anybody’s cup of tea but there’s a new Lemmy instance dedicated to books and writing over at: literature.cafe

Try following @fiction as an example but remember that federation doesn’t backfill.
Already sitting at about 8 boosts and several favorites from some folks with a fairly large follower count. That means potentially thousands of eyes. I went ahead and put together a dedicated user as I think that may be more appropriate than spam posting Lemmy communities/instances on my personal account. Not sure when I’ll have time to flesh it out and make it active but I’ve already got a list of communities/instances and what groups I think would be interested in them. Find it here: mastodon.social/
Definitely. I tend to crosspost most military news with a focus on masculinity because for the most part war is a men’s issue. Russia and Ukraine just happen to be actively at war and so a lot of that content comes from them.
I think the honest answer is to become active and solicit on Mastodon. Those users are not only far more open to the pitch of “Mastodon but with threaded discussions” but are far more legitimately engaged and active than Reddit users.
EDIT: Not to mention they can literally participate from their existing accounts. Super easy to get your foot in the door.
I actually think the web ui is fine but we all have our own blindspots. How do you feel about Alexandrite and Photon? I had good initial impressions of Alexandrite but some minor issues with Photon. Instances could just make those defaults.
This is a good point. Maybe indicates that recruiting to instances like beehaw.org would be more effective. Once they’re here though I think that is exactly the sort of community that would be likely to take on moderator positions.
Oh man this is what I get for running my mouth. I’m not sure if my issues are reproducible or if I can even remember well enough to go about trying to reproduce them. I know that’s not very useful and I apologize. I will say that I think a sans serif font option would be nice to have.
