Marketing Company Claims That It Actually Is Listening to Your Phone and Smart Speakers to Target Ads (www.404media.co)

A marketing team within media giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims it has the capability to listen to ambient conversations of consumers through embedded microphones in smartphones, smart TVs, and other devices to gather data and use it to target ads, according to a review of CMG marketing materials by 404 Media and details from a...

saltesc,

I’ve gotten a type of product I didn’t know existed before, but it’s never been the brand that alerted me to it. From experiences, brands that advertise generally have the lower quality and less value for money product. Brands that don’t advertise but you frequently see mentioned are generally the top tier shit for quality and value and they don’t need to advertise.

saltesc,

Same. Got into surfing really young and weather is everything, so I very quickly became expert level without realising it. We’re always watching and studying the weather so closely; what’s the charts implying could happen next week? What’s the clouds, wind, and pressure saying will happen in the next hour? At some point the ocean and the weather became really close friends They’re super reliable and are always saying what they’ll do next, just need to know their language.

saltesc,

Turn off motor before fucking!

saltesc,

It’d be nice to block URLs of sites with intrusive popups and.adblock popups. I hit back as soon as it happens, so it’s not like I use them.anyway. removing them from search results and.sucj would save time.

saltesc,

This is the sort of posting that gives Putin support. The fact Nirvana is tracked on, the language used, the income request; no Ukrainian support is this stupid. It’s a Russian supporter trying-failing.

If not; you fucking idiot. Stop indirectly helping your enemy.

saltesc,

I don’t know where their farm is compiling such things.

saltesc,

I do a lot with org-wide data, so yeah. Fucking pisses me off.

I won’t go into details, but me, a colleague, a mobile hotspot, and a friend kayaking 4L of wine in through flood waters to the balcony we were stuck on. Saved some lives getting medical records out to hospitals and got pay to just under 20K people, all be it a couple days late. Hey, we were knackered and the wine came on day 3 once we were done.

Redundancies for when power and internet issues occur, kids. Saves lives. Got my own shit going on during natural disasters. Don’t really feel like botching infrastructure because HQ is under and no one planned for it.

saltesc,

Doesn’t sound like a deal at all.

But when has history appreciated the deals of a car dealership? “Car salesman” is long tainted and we’re there again. What will be the next term we fall for for a generation? Car broker? Automobile artist? Transport tech?

saltesc,

I realise it’s Lemmy so while the majority of my comments are sharing information or suggesting people consider and respect other perspectives, at least one person will slice it up, misconstrue it, go hard on straw man fallacies, and then try place me in a tribe they’re at war with, all the while doing their best to appear righteous. Suddenly I am a person that has these wild opinions and thoughts I didn’t even know were a thing. Some of the effigies created are disturbing and it’s a concern that people’s minds do that, and they’re oblivious to it and therefore their behaviour toward others.

Bonus points if they actually agree with me without noticing—happens a lo— because reading and digesting comments isn’t something people do on a platform that reinforces tribalism by design (instances, communities, anonymity). Assuming agenda, bias, or opinion and never input, discussion, or information, is a trait of a Lemmington. The cascade runaway of pointless voting systems are a controlling factor. The opportunity to feel like Jesus to four other users, always just around the corner.

So I post it anyway because I don’t give a shit and, anthropologically, it.clearly fascinates me. Plus I don’t want the eggshells of people that have socially stunted themselves to impact my liberty to discourse. At the least they may manage to pull their head out of their arse and learn to respect other’s.

saltesc,

We should just have AMW anyway. Sounds way cooler, like we dgaf.

“Yeah, I’m a frog. Ask me whatever.”

Well if it’s any consolation, I give his insecurity a solid 8.5

I always forget Metaverse is a thing.

I actually had ‘was’ first then edited after Googling. It appears it is still a thing but can’t really tell for what.

saltesc,

Someone should add this to Dr. Yoni Freedhoff’s Wiki page since it’s clear they created it themself—classic academic…

saltesc,

Does she understand that being over-hygenic obviously has some negative impacts? Sure it is definitely better at preventing infection, but she’s also reducing her exposure to good microbes which is what we rely on to not form allergies, asthma, and even some diseases.

This article summarises it well, but here’s a topic-specific part.

But not all of our body has to be washed so stringently. Overall obsessive washing “disrupts the normal flora which keep you healthy by competing with harmful organisms”, says Ruebush. “Operating your immune system in an environment of sterility is like a sensory deprivation for the brain. Eventually, it goes insane, thus the increased amount of allergy and autoimmunity associated with persons who try too hard to avoid all exposure to anything in their environment,” she says.

Around the house, the solution for fighting the wrong kind of bacteria is not excessive cleaning, but timely cleaning.

You should at least being making your own stand for your own health and don’t let her ways permanently compromise you down the track.

saltesc,

Exactly right, Joe.

saltesc,

And they seek my affirmation or opinion after. It’s already super awkward and now my options are awkwardly give advice or awkwardly tell them it’s way too awkward. I just wanted to clean my coffee mug 😭

saltesc,

To be honest, in most cars filter and fluid changing—especially oil—yourself is super easy and super quick.

Seriously. If you’re reading this and don’t do it yourself…

Tools needed: One spanner for one bolt. Maybe two if your oil filter has a lid. Oil pan or plastic bowl or even some icecream tubs to catch oil. Everything else is hands.

  1. Unscrew oil plug with spanner, it drains out into pan.
  2. While that’s happening unclip airbox, plonk in new filter, clip back up.
  3. Go inside, unclip cabin filter, slot new one in, clip back up.
  4. Oil should be mostly drained now, grab the oil filter and screw that off. Screw new one on.
  5. Oil should be done now, so screw oil plug back in and pour new oil in.

There. In 10-15 mins you just did a minor service for a few bucks. While there, or if you’re done and bored waiting for the oil to finish draining into the pan, may as well top off coolant, washer fluid, powersteering fluid, and brake fluid. They’re all just lids you unscrew and pour to a line.

While other fluids like transmission and differential are also easy, I can understand if that’s going into intimidating territory for some as they’re usually under the car and more awkward than unscrewing the oil plug. Fortunately, these don’t need to be done anywhere near as regularly. But look into those on YT too and you may be surprised just how easy they are.

You will save a lot of money and also guarantee things were actually done 👍

saltesc,

Once you’ve poured in the new oil, pour the old oil into the empty container, or an extra one you’ve bought just for old oil. Your local waste station/refuse tip will take it, some mechanic shops do too. There’s a small fee on weight as they will process contaminants out and what’s left is recycled for plenty of stuff.

I usually unload once a year or so when I’ve got 2-3 containers piling up. It’s as simple as pouring it out into their big tanks and recycling the containers there or taking them home to use again.

saltesc,

Agreed.

And don’t forget to upvote and favourite this comment. It really helps me make more comments just like this one.

Military guards having sick fun.

saltesc,

You’ve never heard of “the rusty trombone”?

saltesc,

My dog doesn’t know what time is and doubt he’ll ever understand “o’clock” or the common human timekeeping convention.

He gets food when I get out of bed and around when the sun is going away or gone. If he gets “dinner” earlier than that, he know we’re going out somewhere soon. If dogs have a circadian rhythm, that.

saltesc,

I don’t know what that animal is, but I admire it. It looks like the Paladin of rodents.

saltesc,

Omg it’s like a beaver/rat/hippo/dog/wombat/otter thing. I love it!

And a quick search says they’re not dicks of the animal kingdom. New spirit animal.

saltesc,

Heh.

I just realised all those xLeoglasx and xSephirothx variants I grew up seeing in WoW and FFXI…one was probably old mate xXElonXx.

I bet he was an Alliance Hunter or Elvan Ninja and caused wipes

saltesc,

All my RPG life, never played a healer because if they’re not immediately targeted, they’re having a brain aneurysm keeping people alive.

Finally played a healer in BG3 with three other friends. Can confirm. When character isn’t losing blood, it’s trickling out of my nose

I only roll support now. That way everyone loves me so much that even when it’s my fault, they apologise. And if shit goes down real bad, I can run away like a bitch and be the hero when I return and ressurect them all.

saltesc,

I try new hobbies to see if I’ll actually like them. Usually it’s things I’m attracted to, but often it’s things I’m not interested in but have the chance to try. It’s about equal positives for both and I’m much more fulfilled, skilled, and happy for it. I aggressively pursue hobbies when circumstances mean I can no longer do one anymore much, or things begin to feel like they’ve been plateuing for a while and I’m not getting much out of it anymore.

There are things that have changed my entire lifestyle. But, to think, I could’ve never tried these things and subsequently never had known what would’ve been. There are things so hard I give up, but only for a while, and then try again, and again, and again.

One might say my primary hobby is finding fulfilling things. It seems a pretty smart way to put worth to finite time. I encourage everyone to go nuts with hobbies.

saltesc,

I’ve always found them the most scary. If someone has mastered one, able to control and time the weight, opening up opportunities for blows, you’re fucked. A light blow with a blade or spear, you’re taking shallow damage and can scamper back. But with a mace? You’re off-balance now or quite stunned and that’s exactly what leads to the skull being crushed in a second later.

So, sure they’re slower and harder to land, but patiently, just one good hit and it’s game very quickly and violently over. Not to mention, the wielder doesn’t have to worry about their weapon being stuck in the dead guy.

saltesc,

More patience than me. I don’t make it past Frame 2 unless I can keep scrolling, or there’s a ‘Reject All’ button. If anything else pops up, too many ads in the scroll, or paragraph three still says fuck all, I’m out

saltesc,

I got Kobold Rogue. We can go gnaw on some villagers and take their shinies if you’re bored later.

saltesc,

I don’t get how spinning a fan to make wind helps with electricity. They’re just big versions of the fan in my lounge room and that requires power to work. It’s all a Bill Gates scheme for more money.

And local girls with denim shorts “painted on” tight.

I hope it’s not a dick. Why all these people that keep a dick in their pocket?

Anime, Serial Experiments of Lain

The World Wildlife Foundation panda too

Oh, and Rust haha

There’s very few logos that aren’t a good laugh. But apparently Rocket League was the noticeable outlier.

saltesc,

Once you’re in that ecosystem, though…

saltesc,

Meanwhile SoT churns out content and updates, maintaining a very active and solid population over the years. Plus full PvE mode coming soon which will be fun for a lot of players wanting to casually enjoy all the Tall Tales content.

I can imagine a lot of SoT players giving it a go, just to go back. I think the ship’s sailed on this one.

saltesc,

One’s for Counterstrike 2, the other’s for Googling affirmation.

saltesc,

I never use cover letters, but I would in your case.

I’ve recently gone through something like 80 CVs for three positions and only one had a cover letter. In it they explained their situation and eagerness to have their career be more involved in the advertised position. In this letter, they explained a lot of what they know and can do which their current experience did not really indicate.

Their understanding of the role and clear eagerness to build into this pathway has scored them an interview. I see in them the potential to mentor and quickly train a very interested mind. If they’re as impressive in the interview, I’ll prefer them over people that are experienced and specialised, simply because they’re an eager clean slate that can hit the ground running somewhat, and that’s quite a breath of fresh air.

saltesc,

They get 30-40 on average. It takes me the better half of the day to review them all. People have work to do; you don’t. Customise your resumes for the application and sometimes that means a letter in certain situations goes a long way.

If you’re sending out the same resume you spent a few hours doing, week after week, you’ve done five hours of work in several weeks. You can’t expect people working 40 hr work weeks, where reviewing resumes is an addition task, to then start writing personalised responses to every person.

saltesc,
saltesc,

Oh, damn. I’d love a Hogan’s Heroes style sitcom or a Tarantino flick premised around a Nazi bar.

saltesc,

Not to mention the history and lore of such things are immense in well-documented European and Asian history. The majority of that fantasy stuff comes from ancient cultures and societies peppered around those geographical areas. I’m sure that would be much the same everywhere if it weren’t for the lack of it being so heavily documented.
