reverendsteveii,

Oh no, now what are people going to shriek any time someone mentions college?

reverendsteveii,

If an apple costs a dollar and you don’t wanna pay that, there isn’t an apple shortage. The apples are there.

reverendsteveii,

When you roll out the feasible alternative let me know. Until then, I’ll be voting for the candidate whose rallies don’t break out in chants of “kill f*ggots, kill all transgenders”

reverendsteveii,

oh if it’s that simple then lets just do that. surely we can bang it out in a weekend.

reverendsteveii,

thinking realistically about the likelihood of getting ~= 80 million people to vote for any one third party, or thinking realistically about the likelihood of getting those two parties to agree to vote their own power away?

reverendsteveii,

Who says I’m not doing that too?

reverendsteveii, (edited )

yes, regularly. I’m active in labor organizing, have walked picket lines with people who would go on to be US senators, make and give care packages to homeless people on the street and volunteer at my local food pantry. I’ve helped organize letter writing campaigns to get the tipped minimum wage raised and to get higher wages from the state for people who work in support services for adults with developmental challenges. I’ve flyered the parking lots of restaurants that were fighting the unemployment claim of a pregnant woman they fired without cause in an effort to pressure them to drop the case. I’ve protested outside town halls and other political events like that since 2001. I don’t owe you my bona fides at all, but here they are. The idea that you can’t be a good progressive unless you abandon the only meaningful resistance available against someone who is openly trying to dismantle democracy is simply horseshit. Trump played this same game against Clinton in 2016 and it worked. He actively campaigned for people who might have voted for her to stay home. “she’s not a real progressive”, “they’re all the same anyway”, “she’s got this in the bag”, etc. I absolutely DO NOT volunteer myself and my family to be sacrificed to some twitter communist’s ideological purity test. You do the job that’s in front of you, and the job that’s in front of us right now is preventing another Trump presidency. Don’t be a fucking Republican psyop.

reverendsteveii,

which politician do you want to vote for, and what’s their path to victory that doesn’t involve making massive systemic changes to both the electoral system and the electorate in under a year?

reverendsteveii,

can you pull it off in under a year? because in a year we’re gonna have a presidential election and one of the leading candidates is someone whose already been determined by a court to have engaged in insurrection and has said that he’ll have the military suppress protests starting day one and will replace 50,000 government functionaries with people whose only qualification is that they’re loyal to him personally. his friends tell me every day that god has commanded them to kill me 😀

reverendsteveii,

How many would you estimate you need and what’s the plan to get them?

reverendsteveii,

not everyone has post-nut clarity. some of us don’t hate ourselves, so we get off and then feel fine.

reverendsteveii,

why anon thinks girl puberty isn’t its own unique piece of hellish suffering

because anon isn’t going to go through girl puberty until he integrates the whole “attracted to a female version of myself” thing

You paid for the motor, now let’s talk about the using the motor fee, the brakes fee, the windows fee, the turning the radio on fee, the turning the radio off fee, the turning the radio to something other than ABBA fee, the airbag subscription fee and any other thing we can get you for while you happen to be over this particular barrel.

reverendsteveii,

print yourself a bigger apartment

reverendsteveii,

Why is it anyone else’s right to take your right to smoking away?

I have to breathe your smoke and pay for your healthcare.

Weird day at the old Micro Gender

reverendsteveii,

Because then we won’t know where to look to see who’s on fucking duty today

reverendsteveii,

Who’s got insightful analysis about pop music to share?

Yoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuu!

Thing is, one horse tops out at about 15 horsepower of force.

reverendsteveii,

A fellow PHB enjoyer, I see!

reverendsteveii,

anyone who wants to leave can go. Hell, I’m responsible for two of the lost users because when i first came over here I misunderstood how this works and made a new account on each instance. what’s up @reverendsteveii and @reverendsteveii?

reverendsteveii,

burnout paradise. I’ll just put on a podcast and drive around. Sometimes I’m seeking out races, or new best times on roads. Sometimes I’m just driving around more or less obeying traffic laws like a reasonable citizen.

reverendsteveii,

wizards are turning into Gaben as he echoes across eternity. It seems like he’s turning into a wizard, but that’s because we can only see behind us in time.

reverendsteveii,

6 years into my career as a ReSTMonkey, this is absolutely still me

reverendsteveii, (edited )

because he had to show everyone that he was in charge

That’s exactly it. Darnella Frazier challenged him, simply by being there with a camera. The implication of the camera was “what you’re doing is wrong, and I intend to expose you”. Chauvin responded to that challenge. His actions essentially said “I decide what’s right and what’s wrong. I’m going to kill this man in front of you, to show you that I can. I’m going to get away with it. If you try to stop me, I’ll kill you too.”

That’s why he stayed on Floyd’s neck for two whole minutes after Floyd went limp. It was about showing everyone that he is in charge, that people die when they don’t do what he wants. George Floyd was Chauvin’s 4th murder, he had every reason to believe he’d get away with this one too and before we all saw the video he went straight to the playbook that helped him get away with the other three. Without Frazier’s video, Floyd would have been exactly what Chauvin said he was: a counterfeiter who died of an overdose while in custody. Before Floyd, Chauvin had pistol whipped a domestic violence suspect and then claimed that suspect reached for his gun, had shot another suspect after witnesses said that suspect had dropped his gun and put his hands in the air, and beat an unarmed 14 year old boy across the back of the head with a mag lite so badly that boy required stitches. He liked to make money off duty acting as a bouncer and the club owners that hired him said he did things like pepper spray the entire crowd in response to a fight breaking out.

Derek Chauvin is a monster who only knows violence. If he ever gets out of prison, he will kill again. Killing is what he does.

reverendsteveii,

The phrase “no war but class war” isnt saying “we should forsake the fight for civil rights until after we establish communism”. It’s saying that every war is, in fact, an aspect of the class war. When you are racist, bigoted, homophobic, sexist, anything like that, you’re fighting in the class war. You’re an agent provocateur on the side of the upper class, sowing chaos and division in the ranks of the working class. When you join the military, you might think you’re fighting in a traditional geopolitical war, but that type of war is just a tool that the upper class uses to buy resources with the blood of the working class. No war but class war acknowledges that the war for equality on any front is part of the class war.

reverendsteveii,

POV means “this is the situation” now. Language does that. Sorry.

What’s wild is there seems to be a contingent on lemmy that goes into posts like this just to say “who cares that they harvest all your data?”

reverendsteveii,

The difference is something I call “selective collectivism”. The pulse shooting means that Muslims are a problem. One trans shooter means that we need an answer to “the trans question”. But when white conservatives commit more domestic terrorism than all other groups combined and even gather under a banner that says “we are all domestic terrorists”, neither white people nor conservatives will ever be expected to answer for a “domestic terrorism problem”. Men make up the vast majority of violent criminals, but to suggest that masculinity needs to examine itself and find a better way forward prompts immediate massive backlash. Is the latest outrage indicative of an entire class of people with deep-seated, fundamental problems or is it yet another lone wolf and absolutely not a reflection on the culture that created it? Depends. Do I personally like the villain?

reverendsteveii,

That’s right, ninety one thousand one hundred

reverendsteveii,

Are those constant 9/11s though? Based on COVID policy I’m estimating that one human life in 2001 is worth several dozen in 2023

reverendsteveii,

Someone on an EOD team once shared with me a very interesting point of view when it comes to anything dealing with explosives. They asked dude if it ever makes him nervous and he said “No, because the thing about dealing with explosives is either you’re right, or it’s not your problem anymore.”

reverendsteveii,

I mean, for at least some of them that’s the stated objective

reverendsteveii,

coming on you

reverendsteveii,

No need to repeat yourself. Christianity is communist and if you’re not communist you’re not Christian.

reverendsteveii,

Im convinced of the exact opposite. I think that Christianity was a Roman psy-op that was designed to pacify a rebellious occupied Judea. Things that the new testament explicitly instructs worshippers to do include:

Don’t seek material wealth or power, those who do so are evil.

Remain meek and nonviolent, don’t seek liberation, and after you die you’ll get everything you would have wanted on earth and more.

Pool your resources and take care of yourselves and each other, but still pay your taxes.

When Roman soldiers attack you, don’t fight back.

reverendsteveii,

If you want to see how arbitrary the charges are in the American medical system, just call them up once you get a bill. Not to complain, not to dispute, just say “can I get an itemized bill where you tell me exactly what you did and what each thing you did cost me?”. That, on its own, will cut your bill in half. For profit medicine has made it so no one has any idea what anything costs, so negotiations on price begin after you’ve accepted the service and they’ve completed it. Providers do secret deals with insurance companies so that what something costs depends on who’s paying for it, to an extent where sometimes it’s cheaper to just pay out of pocket because for some reason that will never make sense your insurance company agreed to (make you) pay extra for that procedure.

reverendsteveii,

I learned something about the core of myself when a fellow discworld fan coined the phrase “militant decency” to describe Sam Vimes
