raptir,

I mean to be fair the plan I would have been migrated to does include more, like Netflix. I just don’t want those extras and it wouldn’t be worth it regardless.

raptir,

No, there’s no tab grouping on Firefox for Android. I have not found an extension that works for mobile for that functionality either.

raptir,

I don’t think there’s auto sort but you can manually rearrange them.

raptir,

I live in the US and I’ve never met someone who isn’t able to understand it. They might need to convert it in their heads to compare it with other times.

raptir,

Thirsty works here. It means you really want it, not that anyone really wants you.

raptir,

Hey, I’ve been to that very spot.

raptir,

It’s the Tetons, specifically seen from Glacier View Turnout. You can see Grand Teton on the right.

raptir,

Legit ignorant here, why does the version matter?

raptir,

I agree that quality matters, but when we have a number of active communities where the content is supplied by bots I don’t know that I’d say we’re winning on quality.

More users means more people contributing instead of bots.

raptir,

That wouldn’t prevent them from seeing content though - the defederation part is the important part.

raptir,

I listen to a lot of death metal including brutal death metal that has lyrics that many would find objectionable. I guess the key difference is that death metal is not expressing the views of the artist. Still, there are plenty of artists with objectionable views whose songs are not deplatformed.

raptir,

It’s a tough distinction to make though. I would say let’s label it as objectionable content, maybe even ban it from being “promoted” (which honestly I hate that bands can pay to be forced on my home screen anyway) and call it a day.

raptir,

It wasn’t “universally praised” but it had generally positive reviews when it was released. Fallout 76 was panned.

raptir,

Why can’t we just have cool multiplayer modes in games instead of a separate game?

raptir,

That’s cool but can their AI figure out that this song and this song are not “related”?

raptir,

I listen to a weird combination of music. Half my listening is metal and the other half is bluegrass/jam kind of stuff. Google apparently knows very little about either genre, and so it suggests random nonsense under the Related section. I don’t listen to Avenged Sevenfold but I could see it recommending it based on some of the prog metal I listen to, but it’s obviously not related to Arkansauce.

raptir,

The Avenged Sevenfold song was shown under the “related” tab when I had the Arkansauce song playing. But it does it with artist/playlist radio and stuff too.

Deer Creek Sharp Shooters is fun because it just doesn’t even try. Artist radio for them will play two of their songs and then stop.

raptir,

Oh, duh! Thanks, Bard!

raptir,

Diablo 1 had a duplication bug through its final release and no one was ever “actioned” for exploiting it. Let people have fun with the game FFS.

raptir,

You know what else was made in a year? Doom 2, one of the best games of all time.

raptir,

They really need to release a new version.

Or heck just another run of the original.

raptir,

To be fair the 11 was a return to form for them. I’m hoping the 12 follows suit as that will be about when I’m looking for a new phone.

raptir,

Why did Linus start developing Linux when he could have just contributed to FreeBSD which already existed?

raptir,

I have a super weird experience from my childhood.

I played Asheron’s Call for a long time. If you aren’t familiar the game had an interesting guild system where you would have a “patron” and XP would pass up to that patron. So experienced players would help out their vassals to both keep them progressing but also to keep them sworn to them and generating XP.

I had found a cool patron who helped me out a lot. We got talking and it turned out he lived in my town, and his younger brother was actually in my class the next year. I never really hung out with the guy I played AC with but me and his younger brother became friends.

raptir,

Multiplayer has been in for more than 6 months if you want to check it out now.

raptir,

Controller support has been solid for a while. The inventory/skills interface is eh but you can play pretty well with a good variety of builds. Agree with the other poster that mouse targeted skills are always going to be a problem.

I had been playing on GFN but put it on my Steam Deck recently and it plays great.

raptir,

Honestly check the time on active/background. My power usage shows 6 minutes active and 24 minutes background right now and I know I have been using Firefox actively for more than 6 minutes.

That said, when I have had Firefox draining in the background it has usually been due to a website misbehaving. Reddit, for example, would drain a lot of power if I left a tab open. I imagine it has to do with trying to sync messages or something.

raptir,

I do find it funny that just a couple years ago people were talking about the horrible conditions in Amazon warehouses and now we’re concerned about humans not needing to do those jobs.

raptir,

Agreed, so let’s celebrate the progress and find alternative ways for people to provide for their families rather than act like robots are taking the desirable jobs.

raptir,

lxqt > Plasma > Deepin

More serious answer, Trinity.

But you’re also setting up a bit of a false scenario because there are far more gtk DEs than what you have listed. Mate, Cinnamon, Budgie…

raptir,

Publishers put ridiculous rules in place for digital content. Libraries typically need to pay the full cover price for an ebook and it expires after 1-2 years. So not only can libraries not receive donations of used ebooks like they can physical books, they are also restricted by the limited life span. Sure, physical books experience wear and tear, but that’s built up through use. A less popular book could sit on the shelf for a long time and not degrade substantially, but an ebook could go without being checked out once and it will still expire.

If I’m buying an ebook from a DRM enabled bookstore, there is no reason why I should not be able to sell the book or donate it to a library when I’m done.

raptir,

That will be nice rather than needing to go through the car settings. Without fail my wife’s phone connects when we want my phone and vice versa.

raptir,

Dvne is probably my favorite band. I can’t wait for more from them.

Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming Apple (www.theverge.com)

Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.

raptir,

Well, it would change their experience. They would see improved photo quality to/from Android users via text messages. But Apple has managed to train people to think that Apple’s refusal to put iMessage on other devices is somehow a shortcoming of Android.

raptir,

Signal for anyone I could get on Signal.

But sms/RCS for random people I exchange numbers with.

raptir,

Giant store brand cottage cheese is my favorite, maybe tied with Penn Maid. But it’s much better than Hood or Daisy.

Also cream cheese. Giant is a bit more tart than Kraft (aka Philadelphia).

I had a dream about windows and have decided to setup Linux on my laptop. What distro should I use?

I used Ubuntu once a few years ago but had compatability issues so I went back to windows. Not a great programmer but I’d like to learn. I’m not looking to do much gaming beyond DOOM2 and factorio. Mostly looking for privacy and a way to get back into programming (I have this pipe dream of learning Assembly). I’m not to...

raptir,

Why prboom? Chocolate for a vanilla experience, gzdoom for an enhanced experience.

Prboom was last updated 15 years ago. Prboom+ is… fine, but I’m not sure why you would recommend it over chocolatedoom or gzdoom.

raptir,

Hah! Fair enough. Anyway, check out the two I recommended if you want to try something different!

raptir,

And then we have NC Soft still running the Guild Wars 1 servers.

raptir,

It’s a solid game - if you aren’t familiar, Neocore also made The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing which is another fun Action-RPG.

The builds and itemization aren’t quite as in depth as some of the competition, but it’s a fun “hack and slash” action RPG. Well worth your time. Both of them (Van Helsing and Inquisitor) honestly.

raptir,

If you like Diablo-likes, there’s…

  • Grim Dawn (new expansion just announced)
  • Last Epoch
  • Warhammer 40k Inquisitor
  • Chronicon (simple graphics but solid gameplay)
  • PoE of course but I don’t need a second job
raptir,

I enjoy Diablo 3 for the “arcadey” aspect, but Grim Dawn is my top ARPG. I was so excited when they announced another expansion.

What are some good somewhat older smartwatches that have a heart rate sensor and work with modern versions of Android?

I have been using a Pebble Time Steel for years even after their acquisition by Garmin Someone corrected me it was FitBit not Garmin thanks to Rebble, a modded firmware that gives it new life, but I would like a smartwatch that can track my heart rate....

raptir,

There’s the PineTime, though it admittedly has limited overall functionality.

Is blocking broken in Hellfire?

I played a ton of Diablo when it first came out, but never really got into Hellfire. I set it up on devilutionx on my phone and I’ve been playing a warrior. I keep getting “block locked.” I remember that being an issue in Diablo, but not at all to the extent I’m seeing here. As few as three enemies can keep me locked up...

raptir,

It’s because touch devices and touchpads are the most common input devices now. Most people scroll with gestures on the touchpad so there’s no need for a scroll bar.
