plactagonic,

Maybe you can throw it in the end of whirpool just 5 min before end of boiling.

It will kill the mold but preserve some flavour.

plactagonic,

I got mine as a joke. Grandma gave it to me I repaired it and then made few asignments.

But I used it few times just as curiosity. Lab protocols cant be easily writen on it. With PC you have all these nice tools like ChemSketch, leaving space and drawing by hand is inconvinient.

plactagonic,

I think that they will no longer sell beer in glass bottles with these caps. Best way to package beer is in kegs, bottles take too much time and efort to make.

What phone do you sugest for your grandparents?

I got a task to buy a smart phone for my grandparents, they are not techsavy but they know how to use basic functions. Iam looking for an andoid because it has language pack i need. I dont need it to have lots of functions, onley a good camera and a big screen. Bonus points if it can be flashed with some kind of simplefied...

plactagonic,

My grandpa wanted something like this - calling, simple web browsing… I handed him my old Pixel 2 XL and he is happy with it.

I just set up F-droid and aurora store, he didnt have G account so it was the easy and fast way to set it up.

plactagonic,

Mine was homebrewing, it became my job. Now I mainly spend my time on my bike, seting up to bikepacking.

plactagonic,

It is 20 years from realese of The Return of the King.

What I will watch is not a question.

plactagonic,

As someone using maps only for cycling and walking. I mainly use mapy.cz, they work well in Czech but can be clunky in other parts of world but EU should be ok. They have incomplete car navigation, it is getting there more of my friends use it now.

Othervise I try OsmAnd+ and Organic maps (osm clients) and it is good but mapy.cz are better in most cases.

plactagonic,

Some kind of sport. It dont have to be competitive/dificult just some exercise. Preferably outside, 150 min per week can make wonders.

plactagonic,

I make ciders from my apples and it is usualy good. My friend made cider from store bought juice and it was bland as well. I wouldnt add anything else than spices or fruit to correct the flavour.

Also good option would be some wood chips, they add lots of flavour and dilute the alcohol taste.

plactagonic,

My brother had my father as substitute teacher few times my dad never told me about it but his friends said that it was hilarous. He never told him by his name only “Yes teacher”, “Mr.” …

plactagonic,

I never heard of this. From what I read on wikipedia it seams simillar to kombucha - non/very low alcohol level, carbonated and chilled drink. Maybe I will try it, this version and the original made from corn.

plactagonic,

My neighbour has lots of suculents he sells them, take them to exhibitions … When I visited his hous there were 2 really big ones and he said that he started with them when he was about 15 yo. He is in his 70’s now.

plactagonic,

Hollow what? I am from country that didnt import this tradition yet*

*some idiots celebrate it somehow

plactagonic,

I tried to ferment some beer with yeasts isolated from sourdough starter. It took longer in bottles to clear but was fine after that.

plactagonic,

I would sugest to dont bother with cleaning it for first brew. From what I heard it makes neglegable diference in taste but it is clear.

I don’t bother with it and had lots of perfectly drinkable cider.

Fucked around, found out (sh.itjust.works)

Tried to make a Pina colada mead following city steading brewing’s recipe, accidentally bought coconut milk instead of coconut water and found out only when everything was sanitized and pineapple juice already in the fermenter, and thought “what the hell, what the worst that could happen? If it goes rancid I’ll just dump...

plactagonic,

Hmm painting accident.

One christmass my dad opened his beer at the table with presents. One of my books still smells like beer after about 8 years.

plactagonic,

I read somewhere that they are better to use in mix with apples for cider. Unfortunately I dont have any near me so never I tryed them.

Also this year all apples fel from the trees I have for cider so no cider this year.

plactagonic,

I ride a bike to a next village about 10 min.

Today it was painful, I recently moved here (because of job) and didn’t take all my bike clothes from my parents house jet. So this morning was about 5C and I was in t-shirt and shorts.

plactagonic,

I switched because w10 got too heavy for my old shitty laptop. Now I got new shitty laptop with w11 and will soon it will be cured by Linux.

My old laptop will retire as server.

plactagonic,

The first one seems like bug on my laptop with Mint XFCE (happened also on Manjaro XFCE). When my brightness is set on lowest setting the monitor don’t turn on. I have to blindly log in and bump it up with hot key.

But I don’t know how common this bug is and lately there are lots of bugs because of s0 sleep in new hardware.

plactagonic,

One teacher literally showed us how to use Libgen and SciHub for our research. Media literacy no.

plactagonic,

10 kg of propane-butane tank lasted me for about 5 or some more batches of 30l.

It is hard to estimate because it is used for more things than beer. I always tried to have min 2 kg of gas before starting brewing.

plactagonic,

As a Czech I knew that it must to be alliance for family before I open the link.

As per some politicians it is the most intrusive lobby group in Czech. And some don’t let them to meetings, give them finger in the doors…

Unfortunately I know few people affiliated with them (read brainwashed). But fortunately there is much more political space for Putler and anti-nato groups that they don’t have much a chance to succeed in foreseeable future.

plactagonic,

I tried but it didn’t let me post. They are too big.

Indian-Mexican wedding gift

We’re Polish living in Germany and were invited to a wedding in India by a friend of ours. The groom is Indian and the bride is Mexican, to make things more complicated. It’s planned at the end of November. That’s the first time going to India for us, we don’t know much about the culture. We don’t know what we should...

plactagonic,

You reminded me about my neighbour wedding. She get together with Scottish guy and tradition was that theyr fathers have to wear national dress of the other one.

So my neighbour had a kilt and the Scott had something like this:

plactagonic,

I got hands on w11 after 3 years on Linux and didn’t know what to do - it was some home edition and I couldn’t find what I want in the amount of unwanted apps.

Btw it was fresh install.

plactagonic,

I always remember about thing my dad said when I asked him about water chemistry:

“You know, almost anywhere is water good for brewing beer. But in Pilsen it is too hard so they have to treat it.”

They have too much iron in it so they have steps on which the water flows, oxygenate and it gets out.

plactagonic,

I didn’t do it in long time but I usually use some GUI tool.

Also Ventoy is good option for you.

You make it like usual bootable USB and then drag ISO files to it. Boot in to it and choose which distro you want something like grub.

I didn’t need to do it in long time because I don’t distrohop and don’t destroy my system that often.

plactagonic,

I know that this number is impressive but there are still about 6 posts per month (maybe more but not much).

Post quality is generally higher so I don’t mind.

I was here basically from day one so I may try it but I don’t have any mod experience.

plactagonic,

It feels like from Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy book.

…fandom.com/…/The_Outside_of_the_Asylum

plactagonic,

You should make Rocky Linux, just for the pun.

plactagonic,

Didn’t expect Europeans at my boring night shift.

Czech here ;-)

Can’t make a photo post

Every time I upload a photo I get a syntax error message. I can continue and make the post but no photo is available and then when I click on the post it just links back to itself. This has been happening 2-3 days now. Yesterday it also seemed to be affecting photos I have uploaded within the past 10 days. The photos would just...

plactagonic,

This is probably because yesterday some a**holes started posting some CSAM. Large servers disabled image posting.

plactagonic,

I just didn’t have the need for driving licence. So no, automatic or electric or manual.

With good public transport and cost of car ownership it didnt make sense. But now I will probably do it just in case.

plactagonic,

For anyone in homebrewing:

sopuli.xyz/post/2665517

This accident got resolved this weekend when my dad with his friends ecologicaly liquidated the thing in the post.

plactagonic,

There are lots of things that our body needs in really small doses. But anything above can be lethal.

Some things needs to be in really specific compounds. Like chrome we need really small dose of Cr3+ but Cr6+ is carcinogenic.

plactagonic,

In Clarksons Farm Jeremy made about 200£ before subsidies. So I can imagine how slim are these margins and how much you depend on subsidies.

plactagonic,

I want to try buying cheap old copper pan and refurbishe it. New ones are 20x more expensive.

plactagonic,

We just got few hens in spring. Week ago I found 2 chickens wondering on street.

Took them home and my parents said that every normal child brings home some kitten or dog not 2 chick’s.

plactagonic,

I have a cast iron pan, but it is more about the refurbishing proces. I want to try relining it with tin.

From my understanding about them it is generally safe when you have intact lining.

plactagonic,

Yeah I didn’t count homebrewing as that much expensive because I share setup with my dad.

plactagonic,

I was considering getting licence to have something that isn’t 0.5 W walkie-talkie on summer camp.

But decided against it because no one wanted to do it with me. So having one high power radio is pointless.

plactagonic,

My main motivation was game coordination around our camp. We didn’t have decent phone coverage until recently and phones aren’t practical for it.

As for reaching and connecting to other people it is fun but I don’t want to do it alone. It is better to have someone to share this hobby. I am homebrewer and my friends can at least enjoy my beer. This wouldn’t bring that enjoyment.

plactagonic,

Oh, that was the word I was looking for.

My brother made it - electric and with 5 strings. And electric guitar.

plactagonic,

I am surprised that it is in active after 2 days.

And I have few ideas to burn some money:-)

plactagonic,

It is little repetitive today.
