philluminati,

Hi,

This bug can easily be fixed by adding a few more dense layers and adding one specific correct input/output to the training set.

Thanks

GPT devs.

philluminati,

Got to connect to the vpn first.

Why Do Companies Not Use Existing 2FA Standards?

This is something I am seeing more and more of. As companies start to either offer or require 2FA for accounts, they don’t follow the common standards or even offer any sort of options. One thing that drives me nuts is when they don’t offer TOTP as an option. It seems like many companies either use text messages to send a...

philluminati,

I think it’s because TOTP requires some sort of initial token sync that is more complicated than entering a telephone number. There’s also no need to have people backup codes etc. To use Authy for example I need to photograph a QR code and have a smart phone.

Text message as a solution works on older non-smart phones so it’s possibly the “most widely accessible” solution.

From a backend perspective as well it’s just an API text $random to $phone.

philluminati,

You have to configure the users device at the start to give you your own codes back…

Communism is bad.

You Underestimate people’s unwillingness to cooperate. We’re all born different in ability and attractiveness and this breeds distrust that undermines what people are willing to contribute or take.

philluminati,

Counterstrike 2 is going to be released on Wednesday. Cs2 will be the new benchmark in skill based fps games and you can get from day one.

I’m in the beta so I’ve already been enjoying the premier matchmaking system and the glorious new smoke grenades.

philluminati,

Nintendo has an incredible brand for easy child friendly and safe gaming experiences. It‘a products are about as retail friendly as you can possibly get. It’s trustworthy. You just buy them off the shelf and slot the cartridges into the unit.

Microsoft is famous for anti-consumer practices, poor UI design, expensive licensing, abandoning products like their Phone, Zune.

Why doesn't the United Kingdom rejoin the European Union?

Admittedly, I don’t know much about Brexit, but from what I have been exposed to, it seems like a decisively economical and political impairment that made travel and business with the rest of Europe more difficult and costly. Since it is so highly criticized as a terrible move, why doesn’t the UK just rejoin the EU?

philluminati,

We voted out. You can’t put us back in, it’s undemocratic.

People never thought Brexit would win but it did. If we had another vote, it would win again. You can find twenty million Brits who voted for Brexit and will admit it’s a mistake but when they’re in a private voting booth with no eyes looking, they 100% vote to stay out. Then what? Have a third vote til you get the result you want?

If it was a mistake then it is a mistake we have to live with.

philluminati,

Look at your butthurt comment.

philluminati,

In London we call an empty bus a “poor man’s Limo”. I was lucky enough to enjoy that this morning for a few stops.

online anti cheats are the worst thing

Recently, i had to move from nixos to windows against my will simpy because of anti cheats. While i dont game that much, the few games i enjoy playing are all online with some kind of anti cheat. I used to dual boot but i was tired of having to wait for my slow hdd to load windows (i only have one ssd). I literally used linux...

philluminati,

Same here. I’ve only a Linux machine for over a decade but I had to go out and buy Windows just so I could play on FaceIT. I’m praying that cs2 supports Linux and the MM experience is good enough to make FaceIT obsolete.

philluminati,

I did, it was £79 or £89 if I recall. Windows 10 home edition. Also I don’t get Windows 11 because my mobo/cpu don’t support it.

philluminati,

I hate Elon musk but Tesla is the best thing that happened to this planet because no other car manufacturer was bothered to do the groundwork required to get electric cars going. They lie and spread corruption before Elon came along.

philluminati,

Solving the car problem might be easier than solving the capitalism problem.

The triple lock is unsustainable. After a 10% boost because of inflation they’re about to get an 8% boost due to wage rises at a cost of 2.2b to workers. During a decade of stagnation they got the 2.5% boost creating an unsustainable debt.

We give more money to old people than defence, policing and education combined. You get less than 50% return on your taxes handed over.

It’s just not sustainable. These are exactly the people who should be paying tax in a fair society. Rejoining the EU and taxing a few companies won’t suddenly reduce the problems we have, it’s stupid to even suggest it given the gravity of our situation. We have the highest taxes in 75 years, a student loan puts your tax rate to 63%. Boomers got paid to go to uni. Our debt obligation is practically where it was after the Second World War.

People need wage rises to pay for housing that’s tripled in price since the 90s. Old people don’t have mortgages and they got help with their gas bills through other schemes… so why are you defending giving them 18% uplift when workers had to strike for just 6%?

philluminati,

Nothing in my post is pro Tory. Tories are for the Triple lock and I’m against it. You didn’t read my post, you didn’t understand my post. You just typed some rude shit in like a dumb fuck.

philluminati,

Uber has never turned a profit for 14 years. I’m guessing it’s windows central who is facing bankruptcy, intellectually speaking.

philluminati,

It did indeed.

philluminati,

I can’t find it now but I saw a meme that was the same template but it said:

Dude: I took a screenshot of the database Woman: you mean a snapshot …

philluminati,

Processor manufacturers target their devices and sales towards cloud computing so they have a huge incentive to avoid having issues like these. It’s ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

philluminati,

It’s not they aren’t impacted only you “don’t see the impact” as noticeably.

philluminati,

I’m a Nigerian Prince. Pls zoom with me!

philluminati,

Even if you resist TPM and WEI, if you don’t have WEI for whatever reason I don’t think you’ll be stopped from using Google services and YouTube… you’ll probably face a shut ton more captchas and 2FA checks whilst it wears down your sanity.

philluminati,

It was amazing but I was young and it was wonderful to discover. I think people have fond memories for it really.

It’s very similar to Lemmy, if not just the same thing done a different way. I think there were only upvotes (I can Digg it).

For young people discovering Lemmy, as it is now, and discovering Linux subreddits etc, they probably get the same enjoyment/attachment etc.

The redesign of Digg downplayed it’s communities and put mainstream media first (as if Kbins magazine tool was restricted to famous newspapers) and thus it immediately felt like the community had been fractured. Reddit was growing with peoples own blogs and it felt way more community oriented. This is where I think and hope Lemmy will also find its own community.

philluminati,

A linux distro is a linux distro. It’s you, who invests the time to experiment and understand, who unlocks advanced features. There’s no shortcuts to learning Linux than to use it and read about it and install it many many times.

Requires a Garmin watch instead of a phone. Not open source.

What is a good hobby for a depressed person?

So i still have depression and im constantly bored, i feel like a loser who cant do anything right. I want to let my creativeness out, make something i can share with the world or family, but im probably dreaming too big. I cant stand being depressed and bored, it stinks, everyone tells me to work out but i lack the motivation...

philluminati,

Thought I saw this meme with an anime girl.

philluminati,

Could I buy a windows 11 machine with a TPM 2 compatible motherboard and compiled my own web server that gave away valid WEI tokens such that other users could present them for fake legitimacy?

Does the token also contain a tracker that uniquely identifies my motherboard? (And therefore me, and by design of the protocol, serves to every one?)

philluminati,

Open for ventilation and to hear a potentially screaming kid.

philluminati,

There isn’t much backlash at all. You just live in a Lemmy and github echo chamber.

philluminati,

If it’s based on the timing of replies it can be fixed in an iPhone update by simply waiting a few random seconds or minutes before firing a response.

philluminati,

Still a lot of active COD2 players on the community servers. Still a lot of fun even in 2023. You can but the game through steam.

philluminati,

This hits home. Discord is a terrible product I don’t know why anyone likes it.

What can we do to keep the web open?

@asklemmy

philluminati,

Just use Firefox

philluminati,

I just want remind everyone that Windows 11 requires your computer to ship with TPM2.0 enabled. This will complete the circuit meaning remote streaming websites can ensure you don’t have DRM on your machine.

TPM is a security token loaded into the firmware of the BIOS put in by the manufacturer to ensure you haven’t tampered with the operating system as shipped and controlled by them.

That will be nice for those websites.

philluminati,

Conspiratorial but has a string of possibility.

User: What are you doing?

Microsoft and Motherboard manufacturers: Putting DRM chips on the motherboard.

User: Why?

Microsoft: No reason.

User: Most businesses would switch to a cheaper toilet paper to save $5, why are you shipping chips and developing software and technology to use these chips.

Microsoft: Oh we’re not going to force anyone to do anything, we just want the ability to. Look at this workaround that we expect 0.015 of our billions of Windows users to use.

philluminati,

The first consideration is always your internet speed. If you’re building a pc then you’re self hosting from house. In many countries the internet is ADSL meaning the upload is very slow but the download is fast. However for hosting you need fast upload. You’ll need a fibre connection to stream video from home.

I rent a server in the cloud to do self-hosting due to the subtle difference in my definition of hosting, being that I control the services and data they hold, not that they are literal hosted at home.

Beyond that consideration I’d say everything else is trial and error and you should experiment.

Is there anything actually useful or novel about "AI"?

Feel like we’ve got a lot of tech savvy people here seems like a good place to ask. Basically as a dumb guy that reads the news it seems like everyone that lost their mind (and savings) on crypto just pivoted to AI. In addition to that you’ve got all these people invested in AI companies running around with flashlights under...

philluminati,

As a senior developer I see it unlocking so much more power in computing than a regular coder can muster.

There are literally cars in America driving around on their own, interacting with other traffic , navigating problems and junctions, following gestures and laws. It’s incredible and more impressive than chatgpt is. We are on our way to self-driving cars and lorries, self-service checkouts, delivery services and taxis, more efficient machines in agriculture and so many other things. It’s touching every facet of life.

we’re at a point where we’ve seen so many wonderful benefits of AI it’s time to apply it to everything and see what sticks.

Of course some people who invest in the stock market lose money but the technology is more than a step forward, it’s a leap forward.

philluminati,

The Netherlands is the most bike friendly country in the world.

philluminati,

So allegedly cruise tourists eat all meals on board the boat since it’s free as well as sleep there, so they spend very little compared to other tourists.

philluminati,

Government just lost a court case, forcing a reduction of flights into and out of their main airport.

philluminati,

Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0 to be enabled. With this, Microsoft and Chrome have built a complete end to end DRM to the BIOS and hardware level.

This gives the end users nothing but is wonderful for Hollywood.
