I don’t want to discuss the incident in detail because it was very traumatic, but long story short, I had a near-drowning incident when I was 12 (technically not a drowning because I survived). I was technically dead for several minutes.

I saw nothing. total blank. I remember flashes of struggling to get to the side of the pool one moment, and flashes of waking up in an ambulance the next. then it cuts out again, and then I woke up in a hospital room with tubes in all my holes (plus some tubes in new holes) and surrounded by my mom and brothers.

I feel bad for the employees who have to clean that mess.

especially because 1) it will be trashed again in 30 minutes, and 2) they get paid crap

at least, in the end, they rid the world of themselves. MAGAts want everyone else dead.

[ COMMUNITY UPDATE ] - An update on discussing piracy in this community - 2023-08-20 (lemmy.ml)

Since this post was made last week, we’ve gotten a lot of feedback regarding the new policy, and it’s understandable that many of you are unhappy with the restriction. It makes it difficult to discuss how to effectively set up a full Plex server stack which includes a VPN and torrent solution which feed into Sonarr / Radarr...

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

Plex access and reads files like any other app would. If your, say, file browser can see/read the files, Plex can. So, if your encrypted drive is mounted and accessible to the rest of the system, Plex will be able to access it just fine.

I’d have loved to go all 4k myself, but I just don’t have the storage capacity for it atm. plus, even with my 4K tv, I just don’t see such a huge difference between 4K and 1080. I have a small apt so I don’t have a huge tv. if I did, I’d notice I more, I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m still rocking a 2011 iMac for my server a a ghastly 350W. I hate it. it’s slow af, but kills it for my needs, which will hopefully last until I can afford to replace it. it’s been my server for the last 12 years… I ran a - get this - a Pentium 4 4GHz before that as my Plex server!

ATV gang woot!

I think I’ll add this to the sidebar!

BrooklynMan,

I just noticed: Trump has been charged with 14 counts on the indictment, but Giuliani has been charged with 15, lmao

[ COMMUNITY UPDATE ] - A Note on piracy and Lemmy.world's decision to ban piracy communities - 2023-08-14 (lemmy.ml)

As you may know, Lemmy.world has decided to ban any communities that deal with the subjects of piracy. Considering that this sub might be considered piracy-adjacent, I’d like to make it clear that discussing the subject directly is not allowed, nor is requesting/offering Plex shares in posts or comments....

BrooklynMan, (edited )
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

uninformed opinion or not, I’d like to play it safe and ensure this community stays open and viewable to as many people as possible. I know the Plex subreddit ran into issues in the past, and I’d like to avoid them.

please follow the rules and keep in mind that this sub is of discussing Plex and its addons, not piracy. there are other places for that.

EDIT: it should be noted that discussions that may involve piracy ARE PERMITTED (as it pertains to Plex and its add-ons) in our Matrix community chats (linked above and in the sidebar), as they’re not Lemmy-related and aren’t going to get this community in trouble here. However, all other rules still apply.

free speech is never guaranteed on private platforms, and it’s explicitly not permitted in moderated communities. you even had to agree to a code of conduct which limits your speech when you created you account. if you came here expecting that, you came to the wrong place.

your participation here is a privilege conditional on your adherence to a social contract which, if you violate, will be revoked. keep that in mind. your freedom is to follow the rules or exercise your freedoms elsewhere.

@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

you’re perfectly free to discuss that elsewhere (well, in most places, that is).

in this community we discuss how to install, configure, troubleshoot, etc. Plex and plex add-ons as well as features and so on.

Where or how you acquire your content (with the exception of Plex streaming content) is irrelevant and not an appropriate subject for conversation here if it involves piracy.

Sorry.

here’s the thing about that: it takes going to court to argue that and hoping you get a favorable ruling.

and that’s very, very expensive and you could be shut down via injunction until that happens, which could take years.

and even if the lemmy.world admin could afford hundred of thousands or millions in legal fees to win a case against the RIAA and/or MPAA, why would they want to risk it?

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

I think it’s pretty disturbing that you think that there’s anything in common with keeping the conversations in this community relevant and the atrocities committed in Ukraine by the illegal invasion by Russia.

worse, that you’d try to blame me or any of it. but don’t worry, you don’t have to worry about the rules here ever again.

But he’s still managing to prevent the Rs from rebranding into something sane enough idiots can vote for.

I seriously doubt there’s any danger of that happening, but would that really be so horrible? if the republicans became more… sane?

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

oh, definitely TNG-era Star Trek.

Socialist Space Utopia where I can be or do whatever I like anywhere I like, free of need and want? Sounds awesome!

What would I do? Explore the endless opportunities!

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

well, technically, FC assimilated Earth happened in an alternate timeline, but you make a good point about the Domino War and wanting to avoid that. So, yeah, I’d want to arrive after that ended.

Plex requires an Internet connection for, well, several reasons. Also, how do you plan on getting media onto the server if it’s not connected to (what I assume you meant) router?

Any growth that isn’t organic isn’t gonna last because it isn’t real. You can artificially inflate your participation statistics with artificial participation, but as soon as that ends, you’re going to return back to your base numbers. It’s extremely unlikely, in my opinion, that what you’re proposing would actually trigger organic growth on its own that would be of any meaningful or lasting quality.

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m not saying you shouldn’t try, and maybe I’m wrong. I’ve seen people try this on reddit and have it not work, but maybe lemmy is different. also, perhaps it depends on the community/subject matter itself?

best of luck!

BrooklynMan,

As somebody who’s been using macOS as a platform for piracy for over 20 years, I assure you it does not make it more difficult in anyway whatsoever. I’m sorry you’re having troubles, but they’re not related to the platform.
