Privacy benefits of Custom roms

So recently my moto G60 reached the end of life with respect to security updates. That was the reason I was using to prevent myself from switching to a custom rom(actual reason is laziness). This phone has rom support for pixel experience and lineage OS. So my questions are if pixel experience has any privacy advantages when...

majestictechie,

The OS itself is private because it’s DeGoogled. I also installed GApps because I wanted the convinence of the App store and core feature I’ve been used to for so long.

I also knew the moment I did the google-fication privacy was out the window.

I was fine with LineageOS and would happily go back when my Pixel7a becomes EOL.

majestictechie,

Looking up at the stars at night

majestictechie,

I was thinking the same, but I don’t really see my neighbours standing out in their garden in the middle of the night just staring at the sky

majestictechie,

I’ve seen a lot of gross stuff, but diturbing? The guy eating another man on a train. Dudes just flailing while he has chunk bitten out of him, everyone on the tube is just filling on their phones.

majestictechie,

Before the days of the Internet, a “'magazine” was a big bundle of paper full of articles you could get shipped to your door, sort of like if you printed out a website.

Wow.

majestictechie,

It’s one of the reasons on my next rebuild I’ll be moving off Ubuntu. I always used Ubuntu because it was stable and you can find articles for almost anything. But there’s some great distros out there now and I don’t like Snaps.

I’m waiting for the next Build of POP OS which should be out soon and I’ll hop over to that probably in the new year.

majestictechie,

Doesn’t viewing by “All” show all subs in the feed

majestictechie,

This is your partner. Please wake up, the kids miss you.

majestictechie,

Probably giving them too much credit. If they wanted to know that they probably would have asked specifically “Is the water still running?”.

majestictechie,

Regular user of both, not seen any issues

majestictechie,

While the messages itself are encrypted, the WhatsApp App itself can still collect data from you from the Device your using it on:

  • Phone number
  • operating system
  • associated contacts Etc.

And given this is a Meta owned company, we can probably assume they profile you from that.

majestictechie,

I’ve done this. I use Piped on Desktop and Phone and use SmartTube on my Chromecast

majestictechie,

Well what about the roads? Oh and the aqueducts!

majestictechie,

This episode and the Lower Decks crossover were my favourite of this season

majestictechie,

Can come down my barrel any day

majestictechie,

When you just keep upgrading the starter weapon

majestictechie,

For me that usually means I’m either choosing a new background or modifying the desktop.

If I’m watching porn. I keep it up. Assert dominance, like the dude in my porn.

majestictechie,

I’m a simple man. I see Owl House, I upvote

majestictechie,

I always find these types of posts frustrating. Apart from your desktop password, a password manager solves a lot of these issues. Just make the password manager super secure, use 2fa and then auto generate all other passwords.

majestictechie,

BFG Division is one of my favourites

majestictechie,

Yeah who needs security anyway. Let’s all use the same password, or variation of the same one for everything while we’re at it.

majestictechie,

What’s the benefit of using a Private tracker? If you have a VPN shouldn’t that cover you?

majestictechie,

Came to say this. It’s a feature they provide so they aren’t falsely advertising but it’s also nothing special.

majestictechie,

I use Hannah Montana OS myself

majestictechie,

Let’s go all in. I want the old style pirate ships again

majestictechie,

Once you enter Primark, it’s MadMax rules

majestictechie,

Any scene with older Anakin and Padme. All those love scenes were just cringe

majestictechie,

Duane Dibley? I don’t want to be Duane Dibley!

Zoom/discord/twitch self hosted options

I’d like to host a game night for friends and family where we play games like jackbox. I’d like to self host the service and give anyone a url and possibly a user name/password combination to access it. I’d like audio and video support as well as the ability to screen share and have a text chat option. I know there are a...

majestictechie,

I found this the other day: revolt.chat

I have yet to deploy it but from what I’ve seen it’s a discord alternative

majestictechie,

+1 for Alien isolation. That really needs a sequel. It captured the whole style of the first film. It was scary and fun at the same time.

majestictechie,

I also suggest cPanel. You can get a web host with Cpanel from about £20-£30 a year.

setup emails, wildcards, host a site, let’s encrypt options, etc. May as well get the most bang for ya buck.

majestictechie,

Is there any other way to Drink?

majestictechie,

Try using this and sent it a test mail: www.mail-tester.com

It’ll check blacklists, configuration, DNS and mail content itself for any issues

majestictechie,

Mail-tester is just for outbound deliverability, nothing else. DNSSEC is really just for security practices. That doesn’t really effect outbound deliverability though which is always a bigger concern for me.

majestictechie,

I’ve never seen a message denied for DNSSEC. It may be a thing they do in the future, I do think all domains should use it but it’s not something that’ll deny a message.

majestictechie,
  1. When the content is no longer available for retail purchase (i.e old games or shows that have been pulled entirely [see Infinity Train])
  2. You have a physical copy, but want a digital version.
majestictechie,

I’ve just deployed a Synapse container to work with matrix/Element, only because that’s what the guide I was using suggested. Is there any benefit to switching?

majestictechie,

I agree. Wants the point of a decentralised platform if most of it’s users are on a single instance.

Plus it’s not a good look from a new users perspective if the platform appears down every few hours.

majestictechie,

And not 1 mentioned depression and debt.

majestictechie,

I like this. I’m using this now.

majestictechie,

Paper Please. They tell multiple stories, some you can invest and follow or cut short with a simple button (DETAINED!). The gameplay is also interesting, having to maintain and follow all these little details reminds me of some brain training games. The comedic writing as well of some of the characters is also brilliant (looking at your Georgi).
