This is exactly it. I used to hate dancing because I felt that I couldn’t dance and everyone would look at me and laugh. It took a bit to realize that literally no one who is dancing is judging the other people around them. They’re just out there moving around and having a good time. You can literally walk on to a dance floor and just vaguely move around a bit bouncing your head, and you’ll fit right in.
I heard the game is in a really good state right now. I’ve got no interest in it personally, but a friend of mine is really into it and says it’s a great game.
Honestly, it did kind of psychologically have that effect. I remember thinking “Damn, these people have a shit load of towels. People must be buying a lot more towels than I do. Maybe I should be replacing my towels more often.”
Seems pointless and inconvenient for me as they usually seem to be poor quality, and can you really listen to music in the shower, and are you showering long enough to benefit from it?...

I’ve been boycotting Walmart for over 20 years. In that time, there was only one thing I couldn’t find anywhere else but there. After buying it, I found it at Costco shortly after. I was never so happy to return an item in my entire life. I even signed for the return on the fanciest cursive “Fuck Walmart” that I could muster.
Lemmy comments are so refreshing compared to Reddit comments. If you’re not posting within the first few minutes on a hot reddit thread, hope you enjoy being buried underneath a few thousand other comments.

Damn I had almost forgotten about that. You’d see a top comment that was funny and witty, only for the next comment to point out that it was a bot stealing the comment from the last time the post was made. That place is such a shit hole it’s amazing we put up for it as long as we did.

Does Texas have something in place preventing people from getting solar? I don’t live in Texas, but my solar loan payment is a flat $200/month for 10 years then goes to $0. My buddy in Texas complains about getting $700 electrical bills, but when I recommend solar he acts like I’m recommending he cut off his left ball.
Solar is awesome. It’s so cheap now that it’s a no brainer if you own a house that you’re planning on staying in for any decent amount of time. It’s cheaper than paying the electric company in most cases, and if you have a battery then it’s more reliable as well.
I’m close to that too, but I think mine was 13 years. The weird thing that I’ve noticed is that most of the time I was on Reddit, almost no one I talked to in real life used Reddit. I struggled for years to try to get people to check the site out. Now that I left, I swear I hear someone I know mention Reddit exponentially more often. The average person doesn’t give a damn about how shitty the platform has become, because they weren’t around to see what it used to be. The average person WANTS to see ads interspersed with their cookie cutter content with stupid ass features like chat and followers. Good riddance.
The idea of installing Linux on a grandparent’s computer is just asking for trouble. I convinced my father in law to give a Chromebook a try since he mostly just uses his computer to get online and boy, was that tricky. The average person has no idea what an Operating System is and will call you the minute they can’t install a new program for some reason.
I feel like there’s a curve of where this could work. For the extremely technically illiterate or technically literate, you’d be ok. But for the middle chunk of the population, it’d be more confusing than it’s worth.
Could you imagine if RPGs introduced the concepts of paying rent, taxes, student loan payments, and compound interest? Jesus fuck that would be depressing.
That reminded me of a time at work where some testing on our project required opening some large XML files. We were using Notepad++ to open them and format them so we could easily examine them. My boss complained about how bad Notepad++ sucked because it was sooooo slooooow to open.
I checked his computer and it turned out that while he would close Notepad++, he never actually closed the file tabs. So every time he opened a new file, it was adding to the hundreds of open XML files. He was literally opening several GBs of XML files every time he launched the app. Frankly, it made me even more impressed with Notepad++ because I would have assumed most other apps would’ve been crushed.
Haha I’m guessing he was just in an argumentative mood and assumed all replies would be fighting with him. Sometimes that adrenaline kicks in when you see an Inbox notification.
