Screens are very very likely irrelevant, they did not control at all for content of the text. It’s so incredibly logical that reading a full book gives better reading comprehension than reading tweets/reddit/tumblr/4chan to the point that this study is just one of the “duh” studies that may be necessary to say “yeah we already knew that but now it’s confirmed”

“Remove all of them” implies a good question: what is “all” of them? All mods changing the models of characters? Changing the models of characters to make them more conventionally attractive? Less conventionally attractive? Changing the gender of characters? Changing men to women? Changing women to men? All mods that change skin color? Changing white skin to black skin? Changing black skin to white skin? All mods changing sexual orientation? Straight to queer? Queer to straight?

I think you should just allow everything, as long as it isn’t associated with hate speech or discrimination. Which is exactly what’s happening here.

Just checking, so if a mod was released that made a straight character gay, that would be fine, but one that made a gay character straight wouldn’t be? Or would both be fine? Assuming no description for either, nothing but content.

So what if there are 3 gay characters, and there are 3 separate mods that each make one of the characters straight. Each single one does not remove representation, but having all 3 installed together would. Do you ban these 3 mods?

I don’t know, I just feel like this is such an arbitrary choice. If you reduce the number to 2 gay characters in a game, with 2 different mods, is that still okay or should both be banned again?

Is it really a difference if you reduce the number of gay characters to 1? What if you split the mod up into two parts, one just removing all sexual remarks (effectively with the intention of making the char asexual), and another simply also adding hetero (so effectively making the char bi) remarks, and you then combine these two mods again to effectively make the 1 character hetero (official gay remarks removed, hetero remarks added)?

Sure, representation is great and I’m all for it, but I’m also for people being able to change whatever they want in their own game. In the end, it’s only affecting them and no one else, which should be the prime directive of tolerance.

I’d personally rather live in 2023 than 1923, so for me, the total change seems generally interesting/good.

Maybe not 1923 exactly, but you can look at Europe in that time… That was right around the time Mussolini got to power, and why? Because of white males (and more) facing a cost of living crisis. America at that time had the “golden 20s”, true, but then you go a few years later and the fucking great depression starts, probably the biggest cost of living crisis there was.

And then also compare the standard of living from that time with now, even though we are struggling, our standard of living in general is much better than it was at that time due to technology and other factors.

Right in the middle between two world wars you’re going to experience and probably die in.

I’m not saying you are wrong in the sense that all is good now, and that it doesn’t suck majorly for a lot of people, all I’m saying is that I think you overestimate how good the past was.

There are no opinions/personal experience necessary here. Research has quite clearly shown that a decent amount of muscle, more than average, but not by a lot, not an outrageous “muscle hunk” amount, is the most attractive sexually.

Of course this doesn’t hold true for all women, tastes differ. And as well, muscle is not the most important thing in male attractiveness. Male attractiveness is a mix of very many things.

I mean, I interpreted the statement as “this is something that happened” i.e. he’s aware that it’s a belief from the past, where transporter technology didn’t exist yet. I can’t believe the Santa tradition actually survives into an age where materialism is mostly eradicated.

But yeah also, the Santa thing contains that Santa actually physically delivers the presents himself, which, even with their current technology, is impossible. You’d need time travel for that.

The cost of a bank account has nothing to do with fees for electronic cash. Fees for electronic cash are collected per each transaction and are paid by the business you buy from. These huge fees are why businesses are slow to adopt electronic cash in Germany, they see no reason to pay 1%+ of their revenue to Mastercard or Visa or whatever.

What is being talked about is high fees associated with each transaction done with electronic cash. Please read the comment I directly responded to again: lemm.ee/comment/6705330

It is necessary to use their services (or at least some other entity collecting fees) when you pay without cash in a store. You can’t go to a store and pay with direct bank transfer.

In addition to what others have said, do you maybe have a close, local friend that does understand you? If so, you could maybe go together to the doctor and they could make sure that you properly advocate for yourself. There’s no shame in getting this kind of support, it’s kinda time-critical that you get this health issue sorted as well as possible, don’t necessarily want to wait until you are able to be persistent by yourself. We humans are meant to face struggles together.

That’s not helpful of course if you don’t have someone like this, but I thought I’d mention it.

What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

I am super sick right now and haven’t eaten much in a few days. It’s getting to the point where I am gonna need to force myself to eat something to keep my strength up but everything just sounds terrible to me right now. I have been subsisting mostly on small glasses of milk and the occasional packet of instant oatmeal....

Seasoning is not included in this I think. It’s only stuff like strawberries, banana and whatever people put in their oatmeal, idk, I don’t eat it. So actual other foods. I.e. a chicken breast by itself is a percectly fine food, a strawberry is as well.

But yeah I mean it’s meant to be a joke, like you say, things taste better/different together, or only taste good if mixed with something, and that’s perfectly fine.

I want to force them to actually make YouTube a paid service to get rid of “freeloaders”. That’s the only way to actually “solve” this for YouTube.

And when they do this, it’ll collapse, and I, along with many others, will be forced to stop using it. And that’s when real change will happen, because then the masses will be behind it.

If you actually stop using it, then YouTube won, in my opinion. They got rid of the freeloaders but can keep their shitty business model.

On the other hand, it’s possible to do what’s needed without constant anxiety. Even without anxiety, leaving a job without plan could be identified as being a bad idea, depending on the situation.

In countries that take acceptable care of their citizens (which I definitely wouldn’t count the US as, if that’s where you’re coming from), many more people live with an inappropriately large amount of anxiety than with too little.

This is such a weird take. Of course, for the things you mentioned, yes.

But in the case of storage, it’s not like the devs purposefully increase the sizes of their game for some reason. If indie devs had the resources to easily make graphics as advanced and voice every little thing in their games, they would, and their games would become as big.

The only reason it doesn’t happen is because they literally can’t do that with their resources, which are better spent elsewhere. But this is not an inherent advantage of indie games, in fact, it’s quite the disadvantage. I’d love if my indie games at least had the possibility of cutting edge graphics and voice for everything.

I mean there’s probably people out there, but who’d want to do more meaningless, non-interesting quests? The fact that there’s infinite quests that can be generated does not mean all of those will be good quests, there’s infinite ways to arrange letters but only a few specific ones worth reading.

I don’t want to shit on the mod maker or anything, and I also haven’t tried the mod out, but I simply can’t imagine that with our current technology it’s possible to generate any larger amount of fun side-quests. You’d probably do one or two of every “type” the mod maker came up with, and then you’re done. That might be the intention, but in that case, this is definitely not “news-worthy”.

But also maybe I’m just too negative…

I don’t think the reasons are really important, there’s no “devil’s advocate” to play here. If it’s annoying then it’s annoying, it takes someone out of the experience, even if you didn’t intend it that way. That doesn’t really get changed by understanding the mechanics behind it.

The additional perspective was interesting, I was just talking about the “devil’s advocate” part. One uses that expression if you want to actually argue for something. But there’s no arguing to be done, you can’t argue someone out of being annoyed. If you had just shared the explanation I wouldn’t have said anything, just appreciated it :)

What I mean is, how do you know that the tribalism gene is gone? I’m pretty sure that if the people that “have no tribalism gene” grew up in an environment where tribalism was normal, they would have developed the traits just like everyone else.

It’s very arrogant to assume someone who is not acting in a tribalistic way has in some way a different biological make-up, as if they were some kind of more advanced lifeform. It’s very likely pretty much the same genetic code, just expressed differently through environmental factors.

I do not mean that tribalism is not present in every environment, it was meant like for example selfishness. There’s selfishness everywhere, but some people are more or less selfish, and that mostly depends on the total environment someone grew up in, how much selfishness was discouraged or encouraged, how much it lead to advantages or disadvantages. I assume that it’s the same with tribalism.
