Oh, so that’s what it is about…

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Thanks, I already read it :P

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

You’re using it wrong. Respectfully 😁

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

If you like America’s Test Kitchen and also tools (maybe a stretch, I know). You’ll like Project Farm.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I always flush with the lid down. Keeps less in the air.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

☹️ thanks for letting me know

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Yeah, but now I’ve lost an argument with my wife… She remembered too…

What if I just want to upgrade some packages? Like not change channel, but Firefox needs an update? I’m not op and don’t use flakes btw

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

There’s no command to just update all packages without changing the nixos version?

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Is that the equivalent to apt update and apt upgrade? I don’t want to apt dist-upgrade lol

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I think I thought unstable would mean, well, unstable. Like nightly releases or something. Would you use unstable for Firefox?

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Thanks. I’ve done switch many times after editing my config file. I’ve never added --upgrade!

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I don’t see why it would be specific to the LE version…?

What are some games that aren’t listed?

D&D Item Card Template- A LaTeX Template for making simple, effective item cards by me! (www.overleaf.com)

Hey there programmers, I know this is a more markup/typesetting deal, but I thought there might be people who are interested. After being dissapointed with many of the options out there for making ttrpg item cards, I made a LaTeX template for that exact purpose. I wanted it to be relatively easy to use, generate clean images,...

Fallout 3. I never made it out of the vault on my first play. It’s long and slow. I played at a friend’s house who was past that point and realized I needed to try again. I’ll never regret giving it another try!

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I believe that they sold out and decided to restock. I’ve seen it say sold out on multiple occasions.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I could be wrong, but I would bet that launderers are probably not targeting this niche device. I’d guess that the people buying them are more likely from a country that they don’t sell in. Like Australia for example.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Yeah, I get how laundering works. I just don’t know why they’d pick this specific item.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

You haven’t watched Shrinking then…

lambda,

Just make another account… lol

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

It used to be, but the switch accounts feature has been simplified recently.

Dns is what translates urls (google.com, lemmy.world, etc) into ip addresses (207.94.56.21) which your computer can actually understand. Dns can be used to track you but a good dns can also very slightly speed up your Internet because it gets you the address to websites a bit faster. I use adguard and have Cloudflare DNS upstream from that

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Imagine saying all that and not linking it 😏

I got you fam. store.steampowered.com/app/…/V_Rings_of_Saturn/

Have you seen superliminal? It’s a very similar vibe to Portal.

Also the guy who made The Stanley Parable has like three other games. One is free to play, very short. But worth downloading. There is another that is about a friend who does or something, it’s really meta but different than TSP. Also, The Stanley Parable has a remaster with a bunch of new content. I don’t remember the names of these games but if you are at your computer they shouldn’t be hard to find.

Have you tried many roguelike games? They are basically games that are super easy to sink an hour or two into without much consequence. They intend for you to die and just start over frequently. Anyways, some of my favorites are Inscryption, Cult of the Lamb, and Slay the Spire. The first and last are card games too. So super easy to start and stop.

I think this went over my head…?

I didn’t know that!

Seeking to understand speaker phone use in public

I’m traveling with family this weekend in a touristy place and have been out in public in crowded areas. I am really shocked by the number of people who have loud, personal conversations on the phone in speaker mode. This ranges from walking down the sidewalk, to in line for washrooms, to seated restaurant dining....

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I like this as a possible explanation. In my experience however, it’s been older people who do this. The generation that most likely wouldn’t be watching these shows

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I agree. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen some under the age of like 50 do this? I could have a bias too though.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Yeah, I do it not in public too. The topic is specifically about in public though and that’s what I was addressing.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking…

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I don’t understand a single example you gave. I always call it Linux. But, what?

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Yeah, I understood all of that. I didn’t understand the examples. Chisel, David, etc…

Why is Debian the way it is? (blog.liw.fi)

Debian is a large, complex operating system, and a huge open source project. It’s thirty years old now. To many people, some of its aspects are weird. Most such things have a good reason, but it can be hard to find out what it is. This is an attempt to answer some such questions, without being a detailed history of the...

Debian fire servers? I’m not familiar with this term.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Oh Debian for servers… lol

lambda,

Cool thanks for sharing!

It’s worse that it’s at a company. But I took a CS class in college that was an intro and the teacher had a pseudo-language that we had to hand-write and turn in to him to have him grade. It still pisses me off to think about how much I would have actually liked the class if I could compile code and see things happen. I changed majors because of that class… I did end up switching back at a different school when I tried a CS class that I liked lol

Cool, I’ll check it out

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

You’re right, I needed that apostrophe… Thanks!!

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

Lmao, do the opposite. Retirement age can’t vote, sounds more like it.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I’m sorry to hear that.

lambda,
@lambda@programming.dev avatar

I have the exact opposite experience as you. I have never once seen steam crash. My steam account is now 9 years old. I was absolutely stoked when I saw GOG Galaxy was trying to handle not only GOG games but games from other platforms as well. But my experience with that has been so bad. It’s fine for GOG games, but I’d much rather just add all my games into steam at this point. So as for stability, I don’t see any way that GOG Galaxy could ever beat Steam.

For Linux support, Steam is a DRM which is a detractor. But with all they’ve done with proton, steam input, steam deck OS… I’d say that Steam is definitely doing more for the Linux ecosystem than GOG.
