jonne,

Yep, would happily take the coffee machine over a PS5. As long as I still had my PC, obviously.

jonne,

That sounds fun when combined with radioactivity.

jonne,

This meme is explicitly about the President committing crimes and getting away with it. I don’t think this is something you want, whether the President’s a Democrat or a Republican.

jonne,

While true in general, I can’t think of any unjust laws that bind the President. In fact, Trump has shown that there’s not enough laws that rein in the President. Stuff like the Presidential Records Act not actually having any penalties or enforcement mechanisms (besides impeachment) are really giant oversights.

jonne,

Yeah, Israel controls both chambers of Congress through AIPAC. They know they can get away with whatever they want.

jonne, (edited )

The notability rule has always been enforced way too strictly to my liking. They’d delete articles about bands that had albums released and reached the charts and everything just because they weren’t notable enough, which makes it hard to find out stuff about some random band you heard.

Then on the other hand you can find an article on every Pokemon on Wikipedia.

Mind you, having those is fine, but that should also mean you shouldn’t delete articles about highways, bands and minor celebrities either. It’s not a physical encyclopaedia that you need to fit on a shelf, an article that doesn’t interest you isn’t really getting in anyone’s way, and might be a valuable resource for someone else. As long as something’s not just spam, it shouldn’t get deleted.

jonne,

It explains why the field of economics has basically been reduced to finding ways to defend trickle down policies and privatisation.

jonne,

I’m actually amazed their first project is now, in 2023. Offshore wind has been a thing for decades. Was this illegal to do in the US before now or something? Or was it not worth doing due to the availability of free land?

jonne,

Yeah, generally miners will set up in places with cheap electricity. And excluding places like Azerbaijan, those sources are generally renewables.

jonne,

And distros have basically moved to Wayland as well, which probably is worse when it comes to stuff like that.

jonne,

I’ve been using a MagSafe compatible case on my Pixel, and it’s just amazing. It’s great that it’s becoming standard.

jonne,

Same. Especially since every game basically barely runs on release day, I don’t get why people don’t wait for a sale to get it.

If you pay $80 (or whatever) for a game that’s full of bugs on release day, you’re just a sucker.

jonne,

The passive voice, reserved for cops and the IDF.

jonne,

It was useful for the American Empire, which isn’t there to serve the American people, but their oligarchs instead: the people that own the oil companies and suppliers to the military. Whenever a country decided they wanted to control their own natural resources, a coup would happen.

jonne,

I feel that for a platform that is commonly used for pirated content, having telemetry that shows exactly what content people have is probably bad.

Next they’ll start selling that info to the MPAA so they can sue individual users.

jonne,

It’s a pile of nudie mags out in the forest.

jonne,

Tax revenue that you’ll have to plow right back into the health care system to treat expensive lung cancers. But hey, that’s only 20 years down the line, so you look good now.

jonne,

I believe the ban affected vape products as well.

jonne,

And that’s fine. In this case it’s going to the King personally, however.

jonne,

Everywhere but in this Duchy, it goes to the crown (which, confusingly, means the treasury, not the King). In this case, it goes to a foundation run by the Palace, and they decide what to do with it (which already is a problem, Parliament should be deciding what to do with the money). And some of that money is used to renovate properties owned by the King (and from which he personally collects rent).

The Royal family is already fabulously wealthy, they get a stipend from the state, and on top of that you want them to be able to use money that should be going to the treasury to maintain their rental properties?

jonne,

‘We’re all just trying to figure out who did this.’

jonne,

Yeah, you’ve got to be a sick fuck to even come up with this shit.

jonne,

Remember when Musk sued Top Gear for ‘manipulation’ and lost?

jonne,

I’m not in the EU and those banners are still everywhere.

jonne,

Yeah, if their publisher hadn’t forced them to release in its unfinished state, it would’ve been a lot better.

jonne,

Also very reminiscent to how Russia will not put too much effort in their lies, because the reason for it is to show that they can get away with obvious lies.

jonne,

Yeah, wasn’t expecting CNN to call them out like that.

jonne,

The US is just using the same ‘intelligence’ Israel has, there’s no evidence they’ve got their own sources (or they wouldn’t have been surprised by Oct 7).

If Hamas had enough opsec to secretly prepare an attack with thousands of fighters, there’s no reason anything would’ve changed afterwards.

Israeli army executes an elderly Palestinian after using him in propaganda campaign about its ‘safe corridor’ in Gaza (euromedmonitor.org)

Geneva – The Israeli army’s execution of an elderly Palestinian after using him in a propaganda campaign promoting its “safe corridor” in Gaza was strongly condemned in a statement released by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor today....

jonne,

I mean, they call the Israelis that are taking land in the West Bank ‘settlers’. It’s colonial language that is explicitly meant to designate the Palestinians as ‘natives’ that need to be conquered. Similar to the ‘settling’ of the Americas or Australia, the people that were already there don’t count, don’t have rights and are basically a nuisance.

jonne,

Israel is treating Palestine as terra nullus as well. You can just waltz in, take someone’s house, and the IDF will defend you. And it’s not like the courts are an option for recourse either.

jonne,

I haven’t seen any of the anti cancel culture people complain about anti-war groups being targeted currently. It was never about the principle, they just want to be able to say the n-word in public again.

Hosting Images for Website?

I have a Wordpress site and recently ran into the problem of having too many images for my hosting services. But my job involves photography, so I was wondering where a good starting point would be to set up a physical server in my home to host all my photos for my website on Wordpress. Is that possible? I don’t know where to...

jonne,

It’s probably easiest to look at one of the many plugins for WordPress that allow you to use AWS S3 for image storage (and make sure you’re resizing images when serving them to users even if you want the high-res ones still available for download).

A bit more advanced would be adding cloudfront before your S3 bucket to save on bandwidth costs.

Be careful with AWS though, you’ll need to keep an eye on costs, and you should really think about whether you want to keep uploading your images at full resolution instead of resizing them first so they’re optimised for display on a website.

[@GamersNexus] They Changed Everything: Valve Steam Deck OLED vs. LCD Tear-Down (www.youtube.com)

The new Valve Steam Deck OLED didn’t just change the screen: Almost every part of the device has had some sort of revision, from the screws to the power topology of the motherboard. Some of these changes happened silently in the Voyager platform refresh for the Steam Deck, but the majority of large changes are brand new....

jonne,

Back when corporations were invented, you didn’t have the option of trading your stock multiple times a day. Corporations could afford to take the long view, and people held on to the stock.

Alleged RCMP leaker says he was tipped off that police targets had 'moles' in law enforcement (www.cbc.ca)

According to Ortis, briefed him about a “storefront” that was being created to attract criminal targets to an online encryption service. A storefront, said Ortis, is a fake business or entity, either online or bricks-and-mortar, set up by police or intelligence agencies....

jonne,

Not the first time this happened. They’ve done it before with ANOM.

jonne,

Thanks, I didn’t know about this, have been using ‘i don’t care about cookies’ for ages. Mozilla should really let us know if an extension gets acquired.

Private medical clinics in occupied Crimea ‘voluntarily’ stop providing abortions after Russian-installed Crimean Health Minister urged them to do "their part to improve the demographic situation” (meduza.io)

"Our colleagues welcomed the initiative, and as of today, all private clinics in Crimea have officially notified the region’s health ministry of their voluntary refusal to provide pregnancy termination services,” says Konstantin Skorupsky, the head of the ministry.

jonne,

Are they planning on keeping this war going for another 18 years?

jonne,

An ADSL modem after work upgraded to fibre, I think that’s about it. They probably would’ve given it if I asked anyway.

jonne,

Yeah, 2 years or so later there’s still no official way to buy it.

jonne,

Those horses have great hearing too though.

jonne,

This is probably the bag holders trying desperately to keep the apes relevant in hopes they can pump up the price again and offload.

Tesla Raises Wages for German Workers Amid Union Pressure (archive.ph)

During Musk’s visit Friday, Tesla executives informed workers that the company would raise wages by 4% effective in November for the around 11,000 employees at the German plant, people familiar with the matter said. Tesla will also pay a 1,500 euro bonus in December to offset inflation. Starting in February, Tesla will raise...

jonne,

Yeah, basic COL adjustment should be the bare minimum.

jonne,

I doubt he’d fly economy.

jonne,

Yeah, you’re not even supposed to leave skidmarks on your underwear. Are people not using the toilet paper?

jonne,

You should probably see a doctor about that, that’s not normal.

jonne,

Lol

jonne,

In my experience most do? Maybe the US is different from everywhere else?

jonne,

If a kid is shooting up a school, and I keep providing him ammunition as he’s doing it, am I just an innocent bystander? The US has the power to put conditions on the aid given. They do it for Ukraine.
