There are certain redditors who always appeared in comments from several subs I was following, and I’m very happy to see some of the same names popping up regularly here, too.
This is why I hate disposables. There is a ton of waste around them between the plastic and circuitry and battery.
Granted, pre-filled atomizers are only marginally better, unless they start selling recreational vape juice and people start dripping pot. The convenience of a vaporizer just can’t be beat though. Near instant action and clothes don’t reek.

You…can’t be serious right now…can you? Or are you conflating nuclear power with nuclear bombs? Because the two are very different things.
As climate change leads to non-traditional weather, people won’t be able to farm in the same places. People will be displaced, famine will hit. Droughts will clear up water sources and fights over water rights will happen.
The only way to reduce the impact is big, non-emitting power that can run 24/7/365 and the only contender for that is hydro and nuclear. And we’ve already built hydro just about everywhere that’s feasible to do so. With a surplus of cheap energy, we can improve hydroponics/vertical farming, reduce transportation needs for food (by growing it closer to population centers), and develop a means of scalable desalination.
Jesus Christ. They’re the new black people. Except the old black people still face discrimination, and Italians, Irish, and Asians all got allowed into the “white” club.
I kind of suspect that people who transfer their photos and music and whatnot over, manually, are very much in the minority compared to people who stream and use a cloud hosted photo app. And I’d suspect that a good handful of those that care enough to backup their files locally probably has OwnCloud or something similar running.
That said, such a shitty move. I can’t imagine it would be that much more bothersome to support high speeds, on a modern device. It is more than likely an ulterior motive to get those people to assimilate or leave, and then phase out the plug entirely, a move that will be mocked by every major Android manufacturer only to have it on all their flagship models a year or two later.
Nearly every USB-A male I’ve seen has a USB logo carved into the rubber boot.
This is on the “up” side of the cable, and would face “up” from the perspective of how the computer is intended to be used (or from the perspective of the motherboard, if we’re talking about a tower PC).
I was thinking about that when I was dropping my 6 year old off at some hobbies earlier - it’s pretty much expected to have learned how to ride a bicycle before starting school, and it massively expands the area you can go to by yourself. When she went to school by bicycle she can easily make a detour via a shop to spend some...
It’s not so much that I’m afraid of drug dealers or pedophiles, I know the statistics and it’s barely on my radar.
If my (almost) 7yo asked me if he could ride his bike or walk to a friends house, unattended, I’d probably let him…if it were on our street (1 mile long road that ends in a cul de sac) or the adjacent street (since we can cut through our neighbors yard to get there).
But beyond that? It’s literally miles to the nearest bus stop or store. Even to the nearest park or playground. And while most of that is suburban secondary streets…it’s curvey, it’s hilly, there’s no sidewalk, shoulder, or bike lane, and people drive way too fast on it (and usually setting up their podcasts or checking on their pizza delivery while they’re at it, I assume, by how erratic they are).
I’m terrified to walk on it, at nearly 40. I couldn’t consider letting him ride unattended on it.
Shoppers in Texas no longer have to pay a sales tax on menstrual products, making the state one of the few in the nation to eliminate the so-called “tampon tax.”...
Still doesn’t make sense. Any man with a kid and half a clue knows that they don’t bleed when they’re pregnant. Thus, tampons are only necessary when women aren’t fulfilling their wifely duties, barefoot and pregnant.
I mean, it really was seeming like the GOP wants every woman to be carrying their spawn (against their will) from menarche to menopause.
Hopefully this kind of content is ok here. Up until recently, when I would be searching for some kind of technical info, the top (and best) results would usually all be Reddit posts. I was very pleasantly surprised to do that this time and find a Lemmy post instead!...

The problems you mentioned are created by the welfare system itself.
Welfare cliffs are what disincentivizes work. It’s not that “having welfare disincentivizes work”, its “getting a few more hours, or accepting a small promotion, makes them ineligible for thousands of dollars of benefits”.
I’ve been using a reusable 36oz/1L plastic “flip lid” bottle from Bezos’s market - this is my third one (sadly replaced almost on a yearly basis) since I keep accidentally breaking the lids....
Get a good stainless one. Something with a wide mouth so it’s easy to clean, and from a good name like HydroFlask, Yeti, or Simple|Modern.
They are (mostly) dishwasher safe and they hold up forever. My yeti tumblers get used nearly every day for almost three years, get loaded into the dishwasher, and just show a little finish wear from scraping it with my keys or my wedding band.
My kids use Simple|Modern bottles and they hold up quite a bit more. The kid-style prints don’t last as long, especially with kids that drop and scrape them all the time. I have a SM one too (larger one) that has held up pretty good so far (and uses the same lids as the kids, but I’ve only got a year or two on it.
Ngl a toilet that I can just hose off every time someone takes a shower seems pretty nice. I get my body hair from my Italian side so I’m basically a gorilla with male-pattern baldness.

My youngest (4) is going through what I’m dubbing his “Sour Patch Kid” days. He will intentionally and directly do everything he can to make me angry. Running away. Pooping his pants (multiple times). Throwing, hitting, spitting, picking fights with his brother (7). You name it.
And then he’s sweet as a peach a few hours later. “You’re the best dad ever”, sneaking up on me to kiss my hand or give me a hug, willfully holding my hand in the store (he’s always been the “independent explorer” type), etc.
It’s really tough to keep it together during the sour part of the cycle. I’ll try to keep this in mind.
It’s a shame. Linus was and is far more deserving of respect for his contributions to technology than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Probably even Woz. But he’s by far down the line in terms of fame and fortune. Except maybe Woz.
I think MicroCenter’s house brand flash media is sold “loose”, or in minimal packaging, at the register. The USB sticks are for sure, and I think the SD and microSD too (though in a plastic carry case).
Idk man iced coffee without a straw just seems weird. Really anything iced, I just don’t want ice coming up to my teeth/lips/mustache when I drink it…but coffee especially.
I use (and usually have with me) reusable straws, but I hate when I’m out and about and get an iced coffee with a sip-spout.
Also, while on the topic, as a mustachio’d man, straws also prevent the beverage from getting trapped in my facial hair, or facial hair ending up in my drink.
I had pretty good grades…took the ASVAB just to get out of English class (it was optional).
Got so many calls from recruiters because apparently I had gotten a really good score on the ASVAB, but it was early 2002 and I had absolutely no intention of enlisting. In retrospect I probably would’ve never seen combat and it probably would’ve been “better” for me in a lot of ways, but I have always been a liberal pacifist and it wouldn’t have jived well with me.
Only one I read on this list is Project Hail Mary and it was really good…and everyone I know who has read it (including people who don’t regularly read science fiction) loved it, too.
Thomas is multi-generational, the main series started in 1984 and ran as recently as 2021.
That’s like saying “yesterdays kids grew up with Raffi”. That dude is still touring (at least in Canada, but he’s been to the US recently) and still putting out new stuff. In fact, he refers to his “older fans”, who now have their own kids that are getting introduced to Raffi, as “beluga grads”.
Meanwhile the original Cars movie came out in 2004 but had movie sequels in 2011 and 2017, but there are also spin-offs in the universe including movies, shows and shorts.
AFAIK it all boils down to the fact that during embryonal development our cells, which at that point were just a blob of undifferentiated autonomous chemical machines, somehow managed to unanimously agree upon the cardinal directions (up-down, left-right, front-back) for future development - and thanks to this, we don’t have...
All of the “privacy experts” in this sub wouldn’t know a certificate if it bit them in the ass. Most don’t even know of VPNs outside of the “privacy” services hawked by YouTubers.
Certificates can be used to authenticate machines to wired or wireless. This is true. They are much easier to maintain at scale than pre-shared key, especially when you run an internal CA and can issue or revoke them easily/automatically, and when you run a domain and can push out additional trusted root CAs to endpoints.
And if you have either an internal CA or a domain (ideally both), it’s very simple to have your firewall or web filter perform man-in-the-middle “attacks”. Most everything nowadays can handle TLS1.2 and many are starting to support TLS1.3. They essentially break open the traffic for inspection and re-sign it with a certificate that your system trusts so there is no error to the user. Some sites and apps have a hard time with this because of HSTS and pinning, but that’s a bit of a tangent.
I say “attacks” in quotes because they own the hardware and they own the time of the person using it.
Anyways, don’t do anything on a work computer you wouldn’t want your boss to know about. We usually aren’t actively watching the traffic, but some things are hard to ignore, and sometimes the CEO just wants to know who else has a diaper fetish for “official reasons”.
